re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Great win for the US.
I'm going to have to make a decision over the next couple of days. With the semifinal here in Houston, I have to decide if I'm going to outlay the cash to go.
If I can get someone to go, I'll be willing. I'm going to ask my business partner but he's in Berlin until Saturday. We'll see. [emoji631] [emoji460]Comment

It didn't hit Valencia, it hit Arroyo.
Refs were fine. I didn't see anything wrong with how it was officiated.Comment

They replayed it a few times from a close up. He closed his hand in a fist and pushed the guy on the jaw. It wasn't hard, or a punch or anything. But he still put his hand to his face. So by the new rules its a straight red. It was very dumb of him.

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
It's really nice to see the improvement by Bobby Wood. The confidence in his game since his first call-up to now is like night & day. The effort and work-rate was always there but the hold-up play and positional awareness has been markedly better.
I hope we play Argentina. The experience in playing against the best attackers in the world is invaluable. Dempsey has been banging in the goals but Brooks has been our best player by far IMO. Him and Clint have to be the first 2 names on the team sheet with of course Guzan in there.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Here in Seattle, if you waited until the last day to get tickets, prices dropped from a minimum of $120+ to ~$40. Lots of available seats due to ridiculous initial prices. Just in case you want to wait. Of course, playing against Argentina may make the tickets harder to find.
I noticed how many empty seats there were in Seattle. I don't think that was the case in Houston so I'm not sure if it would be as drastic here.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Though I like the idea of seeing Johnson actually playing LMF in the option above...
and though I am an idiot...
Why not consider starting 5 at the back? we're a little wounded without wood and jones, so why not, say...
5 at the back, with Johnson on the left...but with Dempsey alone up top (I agree, not optimal), Johnson could advance to provide support on the left flank...which would be manned by Pulisic.
This is not an excuse to get him on the pitch...but it would give the US a nice left side, and with Zardes on the right...who tracks back well...
Beckerman + Bradley is not appealing to me, but it would be functional.
A lot of bus parking and counter attacking...the 541 could occasionally become a 442 in attack.
Will it happen? No. But it would be gutsy, i think. I think the most interesting gambit would be this 541 with Nagbe inserted in the MF. Sit back a lot and see if Pulisic/Nagbe/Dempsey/Zardes could pull a rabbit out of a hat.
I do not believe a straight up match gives the US much of a shot; there would arguably be more attacking play, and might be more likely to get a goal, but it's far more likely to give up 2+. Playing with 9-10 behind the ball at all times, with an extra defender, might seem like taking a weak posture, but it seems weak to me not to adapt according to circumstances...namely here the loss of Wood/Jones combined with the level of opposition, and the high risk/reward variable of Pulisic.
In a match against such a heavily favored side...when loss is undeniably likely...I think one has to consider the higher-ceiling/reward choice...aim highest...It's not unreasonable to think Pulisic would acquit himself well, even against a side like Argentina. And under the circumstances, one has to say "why not?"Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment
