Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***

I'm trying to figure out the starting lineup for Chelsea next year.

    Keeper is cech/courtois

    Cahill and Terry at CB

Felipe Luis at LB and move Az over to RB?

Matic possibly Kheidra as a holding midfielder

Oscar and Cesc at CM. Not sure if one will be more attacking.

LM is a lock for Hazard. Will RM be Willian with Schurle coming off the bench again?

    Then the single striker, Costa.

Recently starting following Chelsea. Hopefully this is close.

I think there is a decent chance Jose goes back to a 4-3-3 this season, which would likely see a midfield 3 of Matic/Cesc/Oscar, with a front 3 of Hazard/Costa/Shirley (or Willian). In a perfect world Hazard would start on the right with Shirley on the left but I don't think Jose will end up doing that.

If Pogba rumors are true I think Oscar would lose a starting spot to him and just rotate with Cesc.

I know he has a history with united. Dude's an animal based on his highlights. What a dynamite signing that would be.

Salah will probably feature off the bench/spot starts as well. I love his pace and positioning but that finishing is just bad. I think the 4-3-3 favors a return of the Blue Kenyan to a regular spot. We all know he's pretty bad in a holding spot/pivot but in a 4-3-3 allowing him to just make runs from box to box on the outside while also providing cover, preferably to Eden, would suit him and us very well. Pogba would be a dream come true. His athleticism, skill, and fiery demeanor would give us some bite in the midfield. Looks like Lukaku is probably on his way out ala the Dr Bruyne route. Kid has immense talent but a penchant for sticking his foot in his mouth. Looks like he wants everything to be handed to him instead of fighting for time.

I just keep hoping that all those Lukaku rumors aren't true. Dude has been a Chelsea fan his whole life and is really talented for his age, I hope we keep him.

I'm with you on that one. Mou would truly regret selling him in a few years time. I'm convinced that he is the second-coming of Drogba. And he grew up a Chelsea fan and was in tears when they bought him. If there is one place he wants to play, it's Chelsea.

What are the rumors? Athletico? Thought he looked pretty average in the WC and was outplayed by Origi. Then again Costa didn't impress so who knows.

He's looking for a side that will be in the Champions League.

I think we'd regret selling him but he's definitely not the second coming of Drogba. Lukaku's aerial ability, ball control, and general movement are miles off what Drogba's were. Lukaku's strengths are his speed and physical strength, combined with a pretty advanced goalscoring composure for somebody his age. He is actually a very different player to Drogba, at least right now he is.

Lukaku is also awful in the air for somebody of his physical abilities.

I love Lukaku and have closely followed him since he joined, but if I'm being honest we picked the wrong Belgian. Benteke was, is, and likely will remain the more talented one. There is a reason Lukaku has never displaced Benteke as Belgium's #1 striker. Funny enough, Benteke would probably fit perfectly in our system.

I agree but I think Origi had a lot of things going for him. He was coming in as a sub against tired defenses, he had absolutely zero pressure on him whatsoever, as opposed to Lukaku who had immense pressure on him to perform. Also, in the group stages, most of the time Lukaku was on the field happened to be a general Belgian funk where the whole team was playing like garbage. I also think that having to play a lot with Mertens, who is an insanely selfish player, hurt Lukaku a lot.

You think Benteke will be better in the long run? He was dreadful last season. Not to mention he ruptured his Achilles which could definitely affect his performance. Lukaku is 2 years younger (I think its 2 years) than Benteke and I think they are even.

Benteke has always been better and I don't think they are even. Benteke spent most of last season injured, but when he did play he was basically their whole team. Aston Villa is a much different team than Everton or even West Brom (when Lukaku was there).

They are only 2 years apart which isn't significant at all, I think as long as Benteke doesn't get hosed by that injury he will be back showing Lukaku up again next season.

Apparently Mandzukic is heading to Atletico. I heard Chelsea were in pursuit of him awhile back. What are the chances Ba and Torres return?

Also, has Jackson Martinez been linked to Chelsea at all? One of my favorite players and heard he was headed to PL.

Martinez often gets linked with us but Porto always ask for far too much money.

30-40 is around their asking price, way too much for a guy like Martinez.

There's talks of Ba going to Everton on loan. He requested to leave but Jose convinced him to stay. Torres will stay, most likely.
