    Re: MLS Discussion Thread

Game has just been pushed back a day and that's it. Monday morning game, and TFC vs Montreal game is on Thursday now.

    I actually like that more.

TFC on Monday and Thursday, Jays on Tuesday/Wednesday.

*** **** what an ending to MNUFC v SKC, Tim Melia got sent off for SKC, and MNUFC scored an equalizer(through an own goal), an then Kevin Molino, Mr. Orlando himself scored a winner in the 96th minute.

This is the first game of the MLS is Back (TFC vs DC United) that I've watched. I know its the best of a bad situation but it's one thing to watch European teams play in their own home stadiums and quite another to watch this game which look like its being playing on a Canadian university field. Very weird.

Most hilarious win for Minnesota ever.

The most important defender, midfielder, and attacker all miss the game (Amarilla picked up an injury in warmups forcing a late change). There are guys playing who, for various reasons, I don't even know who they are. Do absolutely nothing for over an hour, but are somehow only down 1-0. Finally start doing something then Melia does something stupid. Score 2 goals in the 7 minutes of stoppage time added on thanks to the Melia sending off and hydration break. Never in doubt!

And even though they scored in the 97th minute, still made the ending nervous by giving up 3 corners allowing the match to go into a 99th minute.

Vintage MLS. Never turn the game off.

TFC had a 2-0 lead against 10-men DC United in the 85th minute.

Had to settle for a 2-2 draw. LOL.

We still suck in the dark art of time wasting. Some things never change.

Really entertaining match between Houston and LAFC. Down 3-1 at the half, LAFC came back to draw 3-3.

I have a stake in LAFC because I drew them in a $10 pool my buddy ran. $240 winner take all, so that would be nice.

This tournament is so entertaining and also counts as regular season til the knockouts. I absolutely love this chaos.

After 2 games we have TFC and NE at 1-0-1, DC at 0-0-2 and Montreal 0-2-0.

Would be funny if DC gets another draw here.

But I'm guessing TFC/NE are all but moving on to next round, worst case will be one of the top 3 seed spots. But that final game will be important. Win the group and you play a 3rd seed in a division, lose the game and if DC doesn't pass you then you play runner up in Group A, which will be a team who won more games than you did.

                    Re: MLS Discussion Thread

Kind of glad I missed this morning's TFC-NE match. It sounds like a real snorefest from the reports I read.

Weird stat: TFC is going to go a calendar year without losing a regular season match. They are unbeaten in their last 15 regular season games since about Aug. 3, 2019. Sounds impressive but there's nine draws in there. (The playoff games at the MLS is Back tournament don't count toward the regular season standings).

I don't think any of us know what the MLS is going to do after this tournament is done. I assume they are going to try to complete as much of the regular season as they can. Since the Blue Jays were denied to play home games in Toronto by the Canadian government there is no way TFC, Montreal or Vancouver will be allowed to play home games before Oct. 1. It will be interesting to see what the league is going to try to do.

We’re through 2 1/2 matches of the knockout stage and it’s been a total slopfest so far. Awful. Players look completely dead. Hopefully picks up at some point.

                      EDIT: 2nd half much better

That was less than ideal. We got totally dominated by NYC.

Bizarre, random decision to start 17-year old Jayden Nelson.

                        Michael Bradley looked completely gassed.

Oh well, time to get out of Florida and kick off 14-days quarantine back in Canada

It sounds like when the league resumes sometime in August the Canadian clubs will just be playing regular season games against the other Canadian teams. That's going to be weird but it's the only thing that can really be done.

Why wouldn't they try to find a place to host them in the States so they can participate fully?

Most likely because they are going to try and get fans back in the stadiums in some capacity, and STHs, sponsors, lease agreements have some sway over that factor, not to mention the fact that the players are probably safer in Canada anyway.

I just don't think the MLS was prepared for the Canadian government's decision on this issue that didn't really come to the forefront until Canada said no to the Blue Jays hosting games. That probably caught them off guard.

Putting three teams up in an American city for the rest of the season isn't a very cheap option, either. Creates some problems for the Canadian broadcaster, TSN, too. Do the players even want to house in the US for the rest of the season?

I don't know about Suntan Superman's suggestion that the Canadians stadiums could open to fans before the end of the regular season. I think it's highly unlikely and if it did happen it would only be like 25 per cent of the capacity of the stadium, so maybe like 5,000 fans. You might have trouble getting 5,000 who felt safe enough to go right now to be honest.

The hope might be the Canadian-US border will open up before October for some cross-border traffic including sport teams.

It sucks, but if they can't figure out a way to participate with the rest of the league, how is it fair to include them in whatever they come up with to qualify for league-wide playoffs?
