I don't think he would replace Busquets. He would could help fill the void if Cesc leaves. Not a perfect match, but he could be a hold over given his age. I also disagree with that statement. I think Barca letting Toure leave and giving the reigns over to Busquets was a pretty big mistake.

That's a very expensive holdover player and I guess we will have to disagree on Busquets.

Just curious, why do you feel giving the reigns to Busquets was a mistake?

Mistake would maybe be a strong word. But looking at the two side by side, Toure has had a much bigger impact. Pep decided that Busquets was the guy and didn't look back. I'm not saying that Busquets has been poor by any means, I just think that Toure would have brought more.

I've just read rumors here and there, and I've had several of my other Barca fan friends mention the same thing to me. I hope there's nothing to it.

How has Yaya had a bigger impact? Because he scores goals and Busquets doesn't?

Busquets sits deeper than Touré and is better defensively whereas Toure is better going forward. Simple as that. I even find them hard to compare. What I do know is that Busquets is the right choice in Barcelona's system and not Yaya.

Yaya is often thought of as a holding midfielder just because he is physically strong and can tackle, but he is absolutely not a holding mid.

Most people consider the Barca team that won the 2011 CL to be one of the best club teams to ever play the game, and Busquets was an integral part of that team. I just don't see how you could make an argument against him at this point.

Yup, exactly. He's not a holding mid at all. Busquets offers more in the position he plays for in the Barcelona system.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you guys are saying. I guess, for me, it comes down to this. Busquets is a better fit, personality and on the pitch. But I think that Yaya is the better player. I do wonder how different it would have been if we had kept Yaya. I probably didn't state that all that well before.

I think Yaya is the best midfielder in the world but Busquets has that Barca role on lock. Mostly because that's his best fit, partly because that's his only fit (or the role we've ever seen him in other than CB where he was BAD...see that Pato goal from the UCL a few yrs back) and because he has Barca DNA.

Yaya could do a holding mid impression almost as Busquets could. Don't let his versatility fool you.

I'm not fooled at all and I definitely agree with you, he's more than capable of playing that role, it's just not his natural position. He's not a natural defender, he just happens to be good at it when he needs to be, because he's an exceptional player with fantastic athleticism.

Yaya is definitely more talented than Busquets, but I don't think there is anybody that can fit Busquets role at Barca better than him right now. That's the reason Yaya got benched for Busquets the first time around.

@KG Idk man, Modric has been like properly unplayable this season. You could make a pretty decent case for him being the best cm this season.
