He's done very well with Athletic, regularly playing in Europe and making deep cup runs on what is essentially an "Everton during the Moyes years" sized budget.

He's definitely a good manager, but managing a club like Barcelona is a whole new world. It's probably a good fit though.

Tuchel has left Dortmund. Apparently it was a mutual decision, or mostly his.

Have to wonder if Arsenal have already reached out and Wenger's done today.

EDIT: Apparently not, reports starting to trickle out that Wenger signed a two-year contract to stay.

Daily Mail is reporting Wenger has told Kroenke he is staying for 2 more years.

Arsene Wenger has informed Stan Kroenke of his decision to remain Arsenal manager beyond his current deal, which is due to end this summer. The news will be relayed to the Gunners board.

I think even that wording makes the situation sound worse than it is. I don't think was ever a situation of Arsene saying he's staying and that's final—it was whether or not he wants to stay.

It's a small detail, I know, but there's a big difference between saying I'm staying, and the club doing as they're told and him saying he'd like to stay, and the club saying that's great, here's a new deal.

            Small detail, I know.

Either way, this should be a surprise to nobody, and after this announcement, the next will surely be that Ivan Gazidis has resigned.

Edit: Forget all that, he surely demanded it and Stan bent the knee. Nonsense.

Also not bad considering Bilbao's transfer policy.

Pretty surprised by this, considering how well he got Dortmund to play. Based on reddit, he had a falling out with his players, which led to this decision.

I was going to say it's like Everton's transfer budget while only being able to sign players from Merseyside.

Seems like he and Watzke had an even bigger falling out. Will be interesting to see where Tuchel goes and who replaces him.

By most accounts, Tuchel himself is kind of a douche.

TBH I think he's very overrated as a manager. He's good but he's not the massive "future best manager in the world" prospect he was hyped up to be.

Dortmund will replace him with probably Favre, who imo is already better than Tuchel.

Also, Arsenal fans: who exactly is available this summer?

If Arsene left, you guys would be more screwed than him staying another year. There are zero top level managers available this summer. Wanting him replaced is fine, but if nobody is available then keeping him is definitely a better option to panicking and getting someone like Tuchel or Enrique.

With enough money (which we have), surely anyone we wanted who was willing would be available, eh?

But all the top managers are secure in their clubs.

Zidane is RM's Pep, Carlo has only been at Bayern for 1 season, Simeone is going to Inter if he ever leaves Atleti, Allegri is possibly in the middle of creating a new Juve dynasty, and Sampaoli is gonna go try to win a world cup with Argentina.

Who is left after that? Emery is struggling with a better squad and infinitely better resources, Enrique and Tuchel are comically overrated. Bielsa just got to Lille but he also is mentally unstable. Beyond that, you are essentially just taking a huge gamble with an "up and comer" (Sarri, Favre, Naglesmann, Jardim etc.).

Comes down to what you guys want I guess. Taking a gamble on a newer, unproven manager would essentially extend what has been a very long "rebuilding process". It's either that or wait another season or so until a big name manager is available, then go blow a ton of money and actually try to win something.

I don't think the move from Wenger is going to be upwards or even lateral, it'll most likely be down. In fact, no matter when Wenger leaves, I'd almost put money on the fact that someone like Eddie Howe gets pushed to the top of the queue. You have greater faith in the board than I ever will, Kroenke isn't about to spend money if the profits keep coming in.

Are you going to tell me with a straight face that's not something our board would do? Have you seen our board? Have you seen how this club is managed?
