Man United sign Rangnick to six-month interim managerial deal to be followed by a two year consultancy.

…holy **** they’re serious. Would not be surprised if it goes sour when he’s brutally honest with how **** the club is run, though.

There’s a reason nice guy I’m just happy to be here last so long.

But still…what have you done, Watford?

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread

I never had put much of any stock into the Rangnick to ManU rumors as I figured there was no way that they'd give him the kind of autonomy that he wants. Plus, he doesn't really want to manage, he wants to be the head of the whole operation.

In the short term, the big question is if there will be any compromise with the way that Rangnick plays and the talent that ManU has?

In the long term, the question is what does this consulting role mean? It must either come with some amount of real sway or be serious lucrative otherwise I don't see him taking the role.

Well, he's not going to get Ronaldo to press, that's for sure.

What’s interesting is it could easily go one of two very different ways. He encounters a group of players who are desperate for clear attacking and defending instructions who will embrace a systemic tactical overhaul…or he encounters a group of players who have been doing whatever the **** they want to and who want to continue doing that.

I can’t see it being anything but a good thing. Either the team thrives or it further exposes those that really aren’t here as much to win as they are to be patted on the back for just playing for Manchester United.

Either way, it’s better for this club to have a guy like him. I’m a bit surprised they are willing to bring in a guy that 100% will ruffle feathers but thank god they did.

Bringing someone in who will tell you what you don't want to hear is a tiny step, though. It's progress, but it can easily be undone once that person tells you what they think, and you disagree entirely or refuse to adhere to their vision and wishes.

He's going to have thoughts for everyone at the club who is involved in football, which includes the board, recruitment, etc. The real test and next step is if they listen to him and allow him to do what he thinks will work.

Those in charge at that club have done nothing to make me believe they'll do that, despite bringing him in.

I think the worst case scenario for United is not related to squad members revealing their ineptitude, but it's that the board, and the never stepping down Woodward clash with Rangnick, they move on from him, and possibly find themselves again with no real plan.

Will they agree with who he leaves on the bench going forward? Will they agree to the manager he'll want to bring in for next season? As usual, it'll at least be entertaining as hell.

If the United board is willing to make Ralf Rangnick the Director of Football and stay out of his way…United will become a force again.

Of course, I have zero faith that the United board can do that.

All the rumors are that he never would have agreed to come in unless provisions were agreed to that allow him to make certain decisions. Knowing his track record, I think he’s smart enough to only come in if his demands are met. Or at least I hope.

I know he turned down Chelsea’s offer last year as interim manager, telling them “I’m not an interim manager”.

So United have had to make some assurances to get him to sign.

It’s going to be interesting to watch. I can’t wait to see if CR7 is going to actually press.

Surely not in the traditional sense, but he can still very much set traps and have a key role, and especially benefit from the result of the pressing system.

                          I think Sancho will thrive.

If I had to guess, I’d say two straight losses followed by a run of positivity. Will take some time. The target very much is striking distance of top 4 and a successful champions league to bolster morale. Let’s not kid ourselves. This isn’t a Tuchel situation. There’s far more wrong with United considering they literally have a fractured team in very different points of careers. Getting them to buy in like now would be akin with discovering plutonium. Remember, this is a team with the likes of Juan Mata and Phil Jones still collecting wages. Nevermind captain Harry.

Watching United’s CL match the other day, I saw Juan Mata on the pitch and had to do a double take. I didn’t realize he was still there.

Leipzig sacked Jesse Marsch. Probably wasn't the problem with the team, but he didn't seem to be the solution either.
