Great job by Iceland. They've played exceptionally well defensively for about three years. I'm surprised by the result but not shocked.

Already reports that Hodgson has resigned. No choice, really.

Iceland could have had 4 in that game, what a team.

England have the richest league in the world and they are perennial tournament flops... not to mention they invented the beautiful game

they have no problem developing players.. they probably have among the best strikers to choose from in the tournament

they also have the highest paid manager in the tournament who I said before the tournament is the worst at the Euro's.

                  what a joke!

Germany vs Italy is going to be an epic match!

Loved the England supporters chant during the match..... over hyped.... overpaid!

I think they DO have a problem developing players though. Obviously fine in the striker department, but how many England players are world class? Or even the next tier below that? Part of England's problem is they overrated their players to an insane degree, and then are disappointed when they get to a tournament and don't measure up. Mexico does the same thing. That added weight of expectation is a huge part of why England players always play so timidly and with noticeably less passion than their peers. They are just all trying so hard not to screw up, because they all know that anyone who does will get absolutely lambasted.

                      Re: Euro 2016 Discussion Thread

yeah I agree with that as well..

I'm talking mainly overall when I say they have developed good players though...

I mean they developed the likes of Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Rooney.... many and many top players.

I'm not saying this England team is that talented.. they are lacking in the midfield and defense

I think England's problems are a lot of different things . the manager.. the pressure and the team chemistry. It's always seem hard for England to put together a squad to play for their country when in the league they are hated rivals. This is always more the case with England than the other leagues. They also always try to field an all star team and instead of build a team like Germany and Italy for example it seems to me..

what I mean by this.. is they will force players out of their best positions just because they are really good. They try things like playing Gerrard and Lampard together for example.. they push sturridge out on the wing.. they push rooney far back in the midfield opening match. They always do these things and the manager didn't even know who was his best XI before the tournament started.. this is a problem teams like Germany don't have.

I spent most of the day at a car dealership buying a new car so I missed all but the dying embers of stoppage time. However, WOW! Good for Iceland!

I really hope they find a way to beat the hosts!

Go listen to the Iceland radio announcers call when the final whistle blew vs England.

Most hilarious call I ever heard.

I think that may have been the last Wayne Rooney goal for England imo. I can't see him still in the team 2 years from now in Russia (assuming we even get through qualifying, nothing is certain with these clowns). I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney announce he is stepping aside in the next few weeks or so.

Rooney looked totally lost yesterday, delivering passes to an Iceland boot every time he got a touch. Then again, so did Kane on every set piece. And Joe Hart on at least one occasion, turned out to be an important one.

I still have no idea what they were trying to achieve.

Having Kane take ANY set-piece was mind boggling to me all tournament. After his disastrous attempts at taking corners against Russia he was quickly removed from that duty after the first match. I just don't understand why he takes any free kicks for England when he should be in the box getting on the end of them.
