    Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread

I could see them having a reduced squad for the CL, since that’s something they’ve already had to do before and that has been one of UEFA’s go-to punishments for clubs out of compliance.

But also I could see nothing at all happening.

      British-Armenians are being denied visas.

Arsenal put out a weak statement regarding the difficulties surrounding the venue in Baku, and the 6,000 allotted tickets. I assume Chelsea will follow shortly.

Itd never happen, but both teams turning up at Wembley instead, would be an excellent game to play with UEFA.

I thought their statement was pretty good tbh.

It sucks and the fact that Baku was awarded a major final is a joke. I read earlier that the British Foreign Office issued a statement that it isn't safe to travel there anyway.

I mean, I understand why it was what it was, but I wish a stronger statement on the entire reason this is happening would've been better.

Meh. I feel like the time to complain about Baku should have been like two years ago when it was announced not on the eve of the final. I'm not saying the complaints aren't justified the timing just seems off.

Probably Hursty but I think it's one of those things that you only care about when it affects you.

I mean, the complaints have been since then from fans(and Armenians). It was just quieter as it affected a smaller group of people.

There were also many groups of people who said that Azer/Armenian relationship could be stabilised by then. It's certainly been questioned since happening, much like the Qatar World Cup.

I mean for clubs, it certainly doesn't behoove them to make public statements until they are directly affected about it. But criticism has been levied against this for awhile, basically starting from the laundromat cover up that was revealed shortly after.

I haven't followed it since the jump since it's Europa League but now that Chelsea is involved I demand answers!

I've been involved in human rights stuff, so the whitewashing of the Armenian genocide, and the handling of the situation and attempting amicable solutions has been at the forefront of my mind for awhile.

it's unfortunate that human rights and soccer don't go more hand-in-hand considering the global appeal of the sport.

As expected Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be travelling with the Arsenal squad to Baku.

I mean, I know selective outrage is a thing, but if the media are going to pat themselves on the back after attempting to grill Pep about Man City finances, I'd be shocked if they didn't strike iron on this low-hanging fruit.
