Oh man…that ball was definitely out of play for Japan’s 2nd goal.

    Germany [emoji23]

2024 Euros is in Germany. A poor showing and Flick is toast.

Yes, keep Flick. There are no other German managers who should be considered. Nope, none that I can think of at all. Flick's the man.

        How can that goal stand??

What is VAR for? Just absurd.

Fullkrug, at least, is among the players that have earned themselves a fatter contract at renewal.

Can VAR be used to overturn that? I thought it could only be used for goal scoring plays (offsides, ball over line in net, etc.) and fouls/penalties.

The ball wasn't completely over the line. Perspective from some angles makes it seem like it is, but that's because the ball's round.

All the stills I've seen from straight down the line show edge the ball never fully crossed the end line. Close but not out.

Idk Bret…when they the field angle you can clearly see that ball is over the line on that angle. The linesman ruled the ball out so it has to be overwhelming evidence to overrule their call. Just the fact that one of the angle shows it as out would be enough to let it stand IMO but forgive me if I don’t shed a tear for zee Germans.

This is probably the closest we're gonna get to where the ball was when it was redirected. You can see the compression of the ball here where the momentum is stopped by the foot and is about to rebound back into play.

In this picture, the ball is in.

The real question is why don't they use the goal-line tech for this too?

Pretty sure we all expected it, but it's official, Roberto Martinez stepped down as Belgium's MNT manager.

They have a chip in the ball. They know if it was out or not so I trust that it was indeed in.

It needs to be seen in motion... I think it would help credibility, unless it wouldn't, but I think the calls for transparency aren't unfair.

Is that compression the ball being stopped by his foot... or his foot already pushing the ball back in play?

I don’t believe that’s how goal line technology works with the chips in the ball. They have magnetic strips placed ONLY around the actual goal line that interact with the chip. In other words, the ball going out anywhere else on the pitch wouldn’t trigger any evidence. There also are other camera technologies and even some cameras mounted within the goalposts but again, these are all pointed directly at the goal line. It kind of looks like a camera or two could pick up some shots near the goal line but not nearly in a 100% accurate way as far as I know.

Here’s a good write up of goal line tech if anyone is interested

There’s no single technology called the Goal Line Technology or System, the technology is implemented in a couple of ways.

Adidas or whoever makes the ball said Ronaldo didn’t hit the ball in his first game cuz of the chip in the ball. I just assumed it would be able to tell if a ball goes out of bounds or not.

Not enough is said about how sh** Uruguay is to watch. If Diego Simeone ever managed a national side Uruguay would be the perfect fit.
