Before a round of games inevitably gets postponed, I just want to say with all due respect (none)

Yep it will be interesting to see if there’s any matches played this weekend

For those out of the loop, it’s looking like the Queen of England has or is about to pass away.

I don’t think the league is truly prepared for Adam Lallana, player/manager.

They suspended play at the BMW PGA Championship cause of her death so there’s no way there’s football this weekend.

            Yep—weekend plus Monday game postponed.

            What fixture congestion?

Anyway, go watch some Serie A, lads.

Government said they don't have to postpone, it's up to the organizations what to do.

That’s the government saying we can’t force you to, but you should.

I've been watching this 4 1/2 hour documentary about the AFL. One of the topics discussed was the JFK assassination. The AFL did not play that weekend, the NFL did.

Pete Rozelle, who was the NFL Commissioner at the time, said many times in the years that followed that playing was a mistake and he wished he could do it over.

Whatever your feelings about Queen Elizabeth II or the English Monarchy, sometimes entertainment has to take a back seat.

The issue is, in short, hypocrisy. Entertainment gets put on hold, but around the UK people will be expected to go to work day after day.

Sport is an escape from the daily grind and in a sense from reality. There are times when it’s needed more than ever, and putting it on hold for several weeks (it’s likely going to be longer than this weekend) when it could provide the escape some desire is unfortunate.

Before anyone says but you’re saying the players should go to work?! They’re as much entertainers as they are athletes, and if they wanted to sit out, they could.

I’m sure someone will slap our hands if we dare stray too far from sports discussion, but oh well, there’s a maturity (sometimes intentionally immaturity) in this small section of the forum that can handle it, so I’ll only go this far—everything can not be a comparison. An elected head of state being assassinated, compared to a monarch, representing centuries of imperialism dying of old age is, well, I’ll leave it at that before someone quotes the ToS to me.

So are they gonna make it 2 impossible to reschedule rounds with the funeral next weekend? What about the coronation of Charles? What if one of them has another baby????

I can’t even describe how angry I’d be if I spent a few thousand to make this weekend my first trip to Anfield and everything was thrown out the window because a 96-year-old woman passed.

The PL is a global business and they should have made their decision with that in mind.

Listen, I get it, I really do - and hell - Liverpool can use this little break. But the people who personally feel the need to shut down and mourn are still free to do that. This isn’t an assassination, it isn’t a shocking event. And with the accommodations that are already being made for the World Cup, I just think this is the wrong decision.

I will spare everyone my rant on what the title represents and personal feelings on what kind of person she chose to be on certain things lol

I believe the next time the two weeks that will be postponed could be rescheduled are not until into January.

As for Liverpool, they’ve suspended ticket sales for the CL match next week. UEFA won’t postpone—threat of forfeiture in the future?

There is no way they are going to forfeit. I can’t see a world where they cross that line. A large number of their supporters would never forgive them for that. And I’m not talking about people like me that support from afar. Liverpool was the last PL club to post their sympathies on social media and disabled replies on said posts. There’s a reason for that.

As an aside, check out the bare minimum statement Celtic put out lol.

I’ve changed my tune entirely. Cancel the season—current standings count as final standings. See you all next August.

In what might be Arteta’s best masterclass …. Jesus, Martinelli, and Gabriel have all NOT been called up by Brazil with United’s Antony, Fred, and Casameiro getting called.
