Scraping a win at home vs a team that completely gave the game away via individual errors while still playing insanely boring and disjointed football.

You’d have thought Drury was witnessing a champions league final comeback in the 94th minute.

The one thing we do have in common is that none of our forwards can score, todays game aside.

        Coffee and stats time:

Only five teams have a worse xGA total than Man United: West Ham, Wolves, Fulham, Luton, and Sheffield United.

Man United have allowed the 11th most touches inside their penalty area, the 10th most in their defensive third, the 3rd most progressive carries, 8th most progressive carries into their final third, and the 5th most shots allowed after a successful take-on.

Lastly, they rank 14th on Understat's xPTS table and have the second largest negative xPTS total, only second to Spurs. Their xPTS is -8.43 meaning they have 8.43 more points than their performances would predictably result in (this is usually a decent metric relating to where teams end up on the table, or for this early, showing just how much teams are under or over-performing).

        TL;DR: The table does lie.

Imagine if we had Nkunku from the start of the season, unbelievable difference.

He also seems to be the key to getting the best out of Mudryk.

Terrible to concede that late goal, though the touch and finish from Olise was perfect.

Also lol at that Chelsea fan giving him the finger.

Nearly all our goals are conceded purely off the back of an individual error, it’s so wild, we’ve really only been soundly beaten a few times this season.

So what happens if Palace score on that break while they’re checking for a penalty?

Anyone know the rules on that?

A few weeks ago you weren’t having any of my ‘Chelsea are actually not that bad’ talk—or something like that.

                  But the numbers say otherwise!

Gary O’Neil is doing a solid job at Wolves.

I definitely wasn’t trusting the process very well last week

The issue is that sometimes there’s a process and sometimes there’s a ‘process’ instead.

Time will tell if it’s an Emery process (no hard feelings, Unai, anyone in that spot was destined to fail) or an Arteta process (in terms of using my own personal context).

It all goes beyond the manager, though—the structure around and above them determines quite a bit. (Looking at you and your awful side, Erik)

Yeah I mean Poch built some great teams in the past, so he’s at least capable.

Team has the inconsistency of a very young team which is clear, there’s definitely some great players in there just needing some polish etc.

That game could have been done and dusted in the first half easily, second half was very poor but we still have a bunch of injuries and players missing due to suspension.

Also that Gilchrist kid was hilarious. Apparently John Terry thinks he’s the next big thing.

Yeah we had 4 1v1’s ( Mudryk x2, Maatsen, Nkunku) vs their keeper in the 1st half and only came away with 1 goal smh.

3rd in xG but 11th in the table lol

2nd according to Opta, and the difference in your xG vs goals scored I think is second only to Man United with Brentford being third—that's after looking really quickly.

For Chelsea, xG of 37.9 and 31 goals scored for a difference of +6.9. Comparing that to teams higher up the table where there are differences such as -1.8, -4.0, and -7.3 (Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa).

You gotta outperform that xG, baby.

Last year City finished with -15.4, Arsenal with -16.1 and Chelsea had, oof, +11.5 which says quite a bit.
