Optimum settings for QB to move?

Since we now know EA is not addressing CPU QB movement/scrambling, what are the best settings for Traits and even some rating tweaks to at least TRY to get the CPU QB to not just stand there? I've seen various people suggest different things, but do we have agreement on what the best course of action is...short of shelving the game?

He took them down for testing with the new patch, but I'd keep checking JoshC1977's sliders, he was one of the first to have a band-aid for this. Link is below:

For my CFM, I change the "Sense Pressure" trait to "Paranoid" for each QB I play against, as that's what he had listed pre-patch.

It's still not great and it doesn't fix the issue completely, but there's a noticeable improvement when you change this trait for AI-controlled QB's.

Changing "Forces Passes" to balanced is equally important, IMO. With that setting on "Ideal" it is decent, but ironically not as good as balanced because they will hold on to the ball too many more sacks, relative to the number of picks they will throw. "Conservative" is disastrous because they will simply hold the ball forever. Adjusting the traits for every CPU QB opponent has allowed the game to play really well for me.

Increase acceleration and ball carrier vision to 80+ for all QB's.

As a test I put elusiveness at 95 for one of my QB's and then when into practice mode to see what would happen. The QB did a spin move while staying in the pocket to avoid a sack. It was like nothing I'd ever seen in Madden.

I know that people want the dev team to fix these issues, as well they should, but short of that, there are things that can be done to make the game play well.

I actually have it set to trigger happy and not paranoid. This is from muthead.com

Trigger Happy*QB's will try and get the ball out as quickly as possible when under pressure, even when the receiver is not open or the conditions are not ideal. These QB's don't want to be hit, so their goal is to get rid of the ball. Stats that are improved are how quickly they get the ball out, but decreases stats such as their accuracy.

Paranoid*QB's are always under the impression that they are about to be hit, and are more likely to make inaccurate or poor passes. When a QB isn't under pressure, they are able to make better passes, however paranoid QB's are essentially "always under pressure". One benefit of this is they are usually bracing the ball at all times and are ready for the sack.

I think trigger happy works better imo

This is some of the positives of this forum, people helping others with game play advice. Even though I want CPU QB AI fixed, using these methods takes a few minutes, but that is a few two minutes too long for some people.

This is part of the band aids that some people were discussing in that patch thread. I haven't had any issues prior to patch regarding CPU Qb's taking off. They could do it a bit more, but even a Russell Wilson doesn't have 10 carries per game past the line of scrimmage.

I forget what his elusiveness rating was. He played great - did an excellent job getting rid of the rock quickly and evading pressure. I will need to keep tinkering around with elusiveness too.

Now here's the thing...toward the end of the game, my D line started sacking him on back to back plays multiple times. Went from 0 first half sacks to 7 total in the game. 7 freaking sacks in one half.

I thought, what in the heck is triggering all of this?! Surely SOMETHING changed.

And then it hit me...FATIGUE.

These sacks were happening the most often in no huddle offense.

I have fatigue set to 54 in my sliders. Does anyone know big of an effect fatigue has on offensive line blocking?

I reset fatigue to 50 and tomorrow I'm going to test something different...I'm going to set every O-lineman on the CPU team to 99 stamina and see what happens.

Because before fatigue started wreaking havoc, I had zero first half sacks. I'm hoping I'm onto something here. I might even test the fatigue slider at 0 and see what happens. Who knows!

The only quick fix I have for QB play is All Madden on fast speed. Now All Madden isn’t for everyone but from a AI perspective, this is the best that I have experienced. This is even on default sliders and penalties.

Oh yes, fatigue is definitely going to be a factor....that said, 54 is a nicely moderate value...if you had said 64 or something, I would be all over that. I've tested higher fatigue than that without seeing that sort of an issue.

If I might ask, just for trending purposes, what is your quarter length and acc clock option set to?

I just played against the Bucs myself, but Winston was out injured and the back up was a drafted 74 OVR, average QB. Using Trigger Happy, and Balanced, the game was basically a perfect experience based on all the factors. I'm 5 years deep in my CFM and have a really tough defense, so teams have a tough time moving the ball against me. I only had one sack(more on that later), and probably about 7 or 8 hurries.

When that QB had great protection he was able to make some solid plays in the passing game, but when he was hurried he was mostly off target. He threw 2 picks and had a completion percentage of 55% He didn't have the physical tools or enough weapons to beat me, but he played a competent game. I won 24-13, it was a solid football game where the team with more talent just made a few more plays.

I play on All-Pro with QB ACC at 40 both User and CPU, and CPU Pass Block at 58, Injuries at 35, Fatigue at 67, and 10 minute Quarters, no Accelerated Clock.

Using the QB Traits adjustments and with the CPU pass blocking on 58, I've had really good, i.e., realistic sack and pressure numbers for a sizable sample of games(25+) The CPU QB A.I. does need work of course, but IMO, the CPU playcalling and team building are probably bigger issues.

Just completed a test game against Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons.

All Pro Sim.
8 min quarters, no acc clock.

Matt Ryan QB Traits:
Throw Ball Away: Yes
Sense Pressure: Trigger Happy
Force Passes: Balanced
High Motor: Yes

Matt Ryan QB Ratings:
Acceleration: 81
BC Vision: 99
Elusiveness: 99

In addition, I also gave every single offensive lineman for the Falcons 99 stamina.

Results:

Matt Ryan 20/31 for 328 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 3 SACKS

Ryan did an excellent job avoiding pressure (in fact, the best I've seen yet in Madden AI). I threw a good combination of blitzes at him and only one blitz really got home.

I was so happy to see the trigger happy trait really kicking in. In the red zone, Shaq Thompson broke free completely untouched and immediately got in his face. Instead of taking the sack, Ryan forced a wild pass out of the back of the end zone. It was BEAUTIFUL.

2 sacks came from DT Vernon Butler. 1 sack came from DT Star L.

I was happy with how they played out - they felt realistic and organic. I was NOT seeing the usual 2 minute offense, immediate block shed sacks.

Peppers and Addison were still creating solid disruption on the edge, and instead of taking sacks, it was forcing Ryan to throw earlier than he wanted to (resulting in pass break ups, wild throws, and INTs).

So very very happy with these findings.

I'm going to bump fatigue back up to 54 and keep testing - but from now on, I'm keeping every starting OL I'm going up against at 99 stamina. If someone gets injured, and a backup has to come in with low stamina, they will probably give up sacks - which would happen anyways in the NFL. So I'm happy with that.

Will let everyone know how testing goes.

I don’t think Josh is using QB edits any longer as I believe he found improved CPU QB play by not using acc clock along with slow game speed. I don’t want to speak for him so I’m hoping he reads this and corrects any misperceptions I have.

However, when he was advocating QB edits he identified the trait “balanced” as a core issue. His testing showed balanced (within CFM) was actually conservative. His suggestion was to change balanced to conservative (which is actually aggressive) and leave ideal alone. Just something to try I guess and I consider Josh an expert within this realm.
