Run/Pass commit under threat

Clint appears to be implying in this recent tweet that theyíre considering listening to the calls from the competitive crowd to remove the run/Pass commit feature from the game.

It would be nice if they responded to the sim crowd half as much as they do the competitive crowd.

Make sure you tweet Clint if itís another feature you donít want to see stripped out.

What's the point? Trying to play defense is useless, anyway. Maybe we should be talking about people being stripped of jobs rather than features being stripped.

Re: Run/Pass commit under threat

I have heard at least one sim player here suggest the Run/Pass Commit feature is not really realistic. Definitely, the feature is a mixed bag. Pass Commit does not seem to do much (aside maybe make PA less successful and keeping the Safeties from crashing down too quick), and I have often stuffed runs when calling pass commit.

Run Commit does make a run basically impossible if you pick the right direction, but generally gives up a big play if you guess the wrong side. I am not sure how realistic that is.

I hardly ever use run commit because from my experience it is too big a risk. I do use pass commit in the two minute drill as i don't want my players biting on shot plays. The ai controlled players are not intelligent enough to not bite with a two score lead with 3 minutes to go.

Holy crap no! Run commit is a great tool because itís a way to stop repetitive play calling but it has the massive counterbalance of ďguess wrong and youíre screwed.Ē Itís totally realistic, just NFL teams donít use the concept as much because other NFL teams arenít as predictable in their playcalling.

Re: Run/Pass commit under threat

I wouldn't cry if they removed it (to be honest, I would probably cheer as it would free-up addition controls for different functionality). The way it is currently configured, it is really a vestigial feature from the older generations. The CPU can't use the functionality and it artifically overrides/boosts ratings (particularly the play recognition). It is sort of like a 'guess pitch' feature in a baseball game. You are already guessing the pitch by choosing whether to swing or miss; the function just adds another boost on top of how you guess (which in many cases, the CPU again does not get)....

Clint (an ex-player) has said repeatedly that there is no real-life comparison to this. I can't confirm nor deny that as I never played in real-life. But, 'selling-out' for run or pass is just as easily accomplished in Madden by your play calling skills (or lack thereof).

I can definately see how that would be useful in human vs human play. I would prefer when playing against the cpu to have a coach's adjustment for balanced/run first/pass first for situatuonal football. The reason run commit is too risky vs cpu is you have to pick a direction instead of telling your players to aggressively attack their gaps. That would set up play action passing nicely.

Re: Run/Pass commit under threat

There are some good points made in here. I suppose my concern is the erosion of sim type features that aren't replaced. If they added something that was superior then fine but I've lost confidence in that happening.
