Re: Does Madden Cheat so CPU wins?

I played a game today where I caught all the breaks. In one half I returned a punt for a TD, my next possession a playaction bomb for a 70 plus yard TD on the first play, I returned a fumble for a TD, on 3rd and 5 I'm just trying to move the chains and run the clock out and a short pass turns in to a huge run after catch play for a 75 yard TD, then I get the ball again and am trying to run the clock out and I get the pancake glitch which led to an easy TD run. Moral of the story, Madden doesn't predetermine who will win. Sometimes you get all the breaks , sometimes they go against you.

So basically you have little to no control over what's happening, The AI has a scripted outcome and that plays out in front of you, which is pretty much all any rational person has ever pointed out.

Football is a game of inches. A lot of times one single play can make the absolute difference in a game. One conversion on fourth and inches, one special teams play, one turnover. This mentality of "you get some, you lose some" works for basketball, it has no business in football. Possessions are too important. What should matter is user input in relation to user strategy; What does matter is predetermined dice rolls, scripted/manufactured AI, or rubber band logic.

Don't like this guy? Mute it and just watch the play. What sport is this?

whichever way one wants to go about defining that, the fact remains the user is not in control over what plays out in front of them (as you've just admitted). For a game that has enough trouble simulating the sport as it is, neglecting to give the user control in an effort to illustrate what the devs perceive is an authentic representation only makes the product even more comical in nature.

My biggest gripe is the hit detection in this game. My God, the HD is awful. Players running into each other with no triggered animation. Instead, they just flop like fish out if water. I like physics-based gameplay because it feels more natural, but the physics in M18 are borderline broken. But some animations are nonsensical, too, like the corner shifting three yards to get into the animations.

Remember when the old Maddens were purely animation based? Iím talking Ď01, Ď02. The game looked less natural but played better, IMO. Are these devs sacrificing natural gameplay for realistic looks?

I think they tried to accommodate the community's wants with Madden 13 when they first put in the ragdoll physics stuff.

They don't have enough animations in the game, and the ones they do have oftentimes trigger at inappropriate times. In a game of inches, every step matters. I've felt for a long time Madden lacked enough "failure" animations. They need more animations that accurately and realistically illustrate players losing position or an individual physical contest.

As it is now, momentum means very little when in reality momentum and angles are some of the most important things in football. So the product will often times lie to your eyes in order to play out an animation that can only be based (logically) on a dice roll.

I think people who are ignorant of the game and the nature of it have a much easier time overlooking this because they don't understand how much angles and momentum play into the actual x and o's strategy of a play.

I think there is one way in which it does "cheat" late in the game, particularly on All Madden: fatigue. I am pretty sure fatigue does not affect the CPU the same way it affects the user controlled team. And I think THIS, if true, is a very big reason why it seems the CPU seems to cheat late in games.
