I just hope they don’t screw things up with players like Deion Jones or Eric Kendricks. They are both underside mlb’s that look more like box safeties based on their madden stats but they aren’t really liabilities in the run game and they excel very well in coverage

None of that sounds bad , indeed it may be a improvement BUT :-

those skill points are still earned ON THE FIELD ( at least that's the only way mentioned) when the MAJOR flaw in the whole system was that it's production based , and thus COUNTER INTUITIVE by design , as many people here have pointed out

Obviously more reveals yet to come ..but so far not impressed
This touches on my main question, how effective can something like archetypes be within an XP based system?

XP or whatever they wish to name it isn't the problem , it's merely a coinage , that is :- an alternative to a hard and fast * do this and get that reward* type system

The issue I have is how you can earn it , and to a lesser extent how it can be spent ...they seem to have attempted to address my minor concern via archetypes, whilst ignoring my major problem . We'll see though when it's fully revealed

Different lipstick, same progression system pig.

Give me an updated Head Coach with Madden gameplay for a franchise mode.

For all your progression needs, check my signature lol

To the general point, this seems extremely disappointing and really dropping the bar. The longer we wait to overhaul this mode, the more time is wasted. Building on these illogical features is a waste of time

From the tiny bit of info they’ve released on this “new” feature it sounds like absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking. More like a slight reskin of stuff already in the game in order to pad the list of “new” features for Franchise mode. I’m more nervous than excited, this feature seems more like a burden than anything truly new or exciting.

It is going to shape how players are built. In a CFM you have always been able to dump XP in a single stat that is OP for the position and that just isn’t the case anymore. You add in the impact of fitting the coaches scheme and you get a pretty solid feature that can be built on over time.
