    MLB 2K12 Wishlist

I know Visual Concepts devs have their hands full fixing bugs from this year's game, but the development of 2K12 is right around the corner, if not already underway. What features would you like to see implemented or changed in next year's game? This does not include bug or glitch fixes.

Havent got the game yet, but apparently the sponsorships/etc arent in the game for my player. That would be a good inclusion.
    Also realistic contracts.

      Re: MLB 2K12 Wishlist

      1) Finish the development cycle early. Spend the remaining time in house PLAYING the game and looking for bugs. The game should play well out of the box. Customers shouldn't be the beta testers.

      2) Flesh out My Player more. Give the ability to negotiate contracts and make being highly paid a goal. Do you stay loyal to your favorite team or become a free agent for the big $$$? Make performing well in key situations good for prestige. With enough prestige comes endorsements, magazine covers, etc. More popular players can earn more money. Let us give interviews that can increase/decrease popularity. Also look at RTTS and seek out any features that should be incorporated.

      3) Dynamic attendance. Your team sucking? Few people show up. They could tie this into ticket prices, concession stand money, and team budgets.

      4) More retro uniforms. Also work on making existing ones accurate (Bo Sox showing names, color goofs, etc.)

      5) More unlockables. More classic players, teams, ball parks. Where did player cards go? They were hard to get last year because changing sliders shut them off. Now we can change sliders without punishment, but you took 'em away? Maybe strike a deal with Topps, and have different trading cards from a player's career to unlock.

      6) Rain. A range of rain, from sprinkles to rain outs, delayed games, muddy fields, etc.

        Re: MLB 2K12 Wishlist

1.) Give the graphics some more love (get rid of the jagged shadows, etc). This isn't the most important thing to me, but it is a biggie for a lot of people, and now that the gameplay is pretty solid, it's time to polish up the graphics. EDIT: after playing the PC version, it looks VERY good...a big improvement over the 360 version. It'd be nice if the console versions could be brought up closer to the same level.

2.) Make the My Player mode more flexible in terms of player creation. In real life, all prospects aren't just average Joe's. Some guys are born with God-given talents such as a fast set of wheels or an arm like a cannon, things they don't have to work on because they come naturally. We should have the option to create these types of players. It could be as simple as just giving us more extra skill points to start with so that we can give the player more of the talent-shape we're looking for. As it is now, for instance, a guy can't be a speed demon until a couple years into his career. That just isn't realistic for the guys who were drafted BECAUSE of their speed. Same goes for power hitters, hard throwing pitchers, etc.

3.) Make the My Player mode deeper in general. Give us more options in terms of signing contracts, trades, etc. We need more off the field options. And deeper training options as well. For instance, maybe we could choose to spend extra time in the batting cages, which temporarily boosts our batting skill, but maybe increases fatigue. Little things like that would be very nice.

4.) Add a sign system to My Player. When we're batting, we need to know if a sign is on for a steal so we know to take a pitch. And when on base, we need to be on the same page with the hitter so he knows when we're going to steal. The green light should be earned, not completely up to the individual player.

5.) Manager Mode: this really needs to come back, especially for Franchise (it was great in 2K7-8). I don't like to play every single game in my Franchise, but I don't always want to sim either. Go back and look at what 2K8 had and bring it back. Or better yet, improve it!

6.) Co-op Mode would be pretty nice, but Manager Mode should be more of a priority IMO.

        7.) Baserunning animations......'nuff said.

8.) Improve the head tracking. Most of the time (except on no-doubt homers, or sure out pop-ups) it seems that as soon as a batter makes contact, he drops his head and then looks towards first without ever looking at the ball after the hit. In real life, a player checks out where the ball is headed as he runs out of the batters box so that he has an idea of whether not he's going to stop at first or go for an extra base hit. It just looks kind of weird the way it is now, and I hope it's improved next year.

9.) More and better replay camera angles. I love the broadcast presentation, but some of the replay angles are kind of weird. Some of the pitcher replays showing strikouts at the end of the inning are zoomed in too close where it's a bit awkward and hard to focus on the action. And on RBI hits, the view where the runner is rounding third is used WAY TOO MUCH and just looks strange because of the bad running animation. I would like to see multiple angles of the hit instead and more high-fives at the plate.

10.) Better check swings for classic button hitting. These controllers have pressure sensitive buttons, so please make use of that and set it so a light tap results in a check swing. It was like this in older 2K games so I'm not sure why it was ever replaced with a double tap for check swings. It's just a clumsy method.

        11.) Dynamic attendance

That's all I have for now.....

How about one year where the game plays really well out of the box and we don't need to wait a month or more for patches to fix stuff that's totally broken in the on-field game or Franchise mode?

Being able to control more owner related things.. ticket prices.. promotions.. concessions.. things like this would really spice up the franchise, and tie it all in to what your team spends on salary.. Say your the Reds, not a very high salary. But your bringing in a sellout almost every series... you can spend some more on salary rather than having a "cap" like it does this year

Is there going to be an "official" wishlist thread? Do the 2K guys even use this forum for that type of feedback?

If so I'll start making note of things.

I'm completely into this game. It's been very good in the single games I have been playing so far.

I would like hear the announcers describe what type of pitch I hit for a home run.

                  1. Fix the contracts in Franchise Mode. Progression and development of younger players helps, but in today's baseball economics, Prince Fielder shouldn't be signing for a mere $9 million per year. Albert Pujols shouldn't be signing for a meager $1 million raise.

                  2. If the contracts get fixed, then allow us to pick how we play. Allow to play the franchise with either a) Real-Life Budgets, where the budgets function as they do in real life, i.e. small market teams struggle to compete with the likes of New York and Boston to keep and sign big-time free agents, or b) Balanced Budgets where teams have equal budgets, making it an even playing field.

                  3. Fewer infield line drives. It's kind of silly.

                  4. Fix the "hiccup" whenever a player puts a ball into play into the outfield. That was a problem way back with (IIRC) 2K7. It's maddening.

<s>5. Fictional pictures for fictional players, a la the rookie pictures that were available in NFL 2K5.</s>
EDIT: Just noticed last night that they have something similar.

                  6. Hiring/firing of managers, coaches, trainers, etc.

                  7. Manager, Hitting Coach, Pitching Coach, Bench Coach and Trainer for every minor league team. And allow promotion of these coaches and managers.

                  8. Coaches' ratings that actually have an impact on player development and performance.

                  9. More management options for things like concessions, parking, training facilities, money spent on scouting and player development.

                  10. Dynamic attendance which, in turn, affects your bottom line, like nickmyster said.

                  11. I might be the only one, but I miss the GM Goals we used to get back in the older versions of the game. You know, like 'Acquire a pitcher rated 80 or higher' or 'Improve team speed to 85?' And you'd get a GM Score at the end of the year. I miss those.

<s>12. Tracking of all-time career and season records.</s>
EDIT: Found these. I find it interesting that they list Mark McGuire and Hank Aaron as the HR leaders still. They don't even list the anonymous 'MLB Player' in place of the non-union affiliated Barry Bonds.

                  13. Hall of Fame for Franchise Mode.

                  14. Better celebrations for winning LCS and World Series

                  15. The ability to actually turn off Auto Save. There's no way to actually do this.

                  16. Manager arguments.

                  17. Beanballs and ejections.

                  18. MLB 2K9 did a few things with the Accomplishments that I liked. They had a lot of milestone type accomplishments. For example, you were awarded gamer points for your 10th home run, 25th HR, etc and for strikeouts, RBI, etc. I'd like to see more of those brought back.

And with the budgets.. it should all matter with how your team is doing.. Attendance at the games as well as merchandise sales and so on.. WHat your team brings in should decide how much you can spend on your team

If they want to get into this level of detail, I am fine with that. However, I think attendance alone, kind of takes care of things like concession and merchandise revenue, parking revenue, etc. If they want to let us tweak prices, that is fine, but the bottom line is attendance is going to drive your revenue. I think an assumption that changing overall ticket prices would then change everything else accordingly would work.
                      </O
I'm not against controlling ticket prices, hot dog prices, etc, but I just feel that this is a little outside of what baseball is about. In real life, financial analysts (and really the law of supply and demand) are driving these decisions. And if you think about it, if you are going to raise or lower the price of tickets to try and drive higher attendance, you are probably going to do so across the board.
                      <O</O

I would think that to simplify this process, you could just "Raise Prices" 10% and in turn it would increase everything 10%. Obviously, attendance is probably going to drive these decisions. If you are selling out and people are fighting to get to your stadium, you can jack up prices, but if you are struggling to draw fans, then you have to lower prices and have more promotions to help drive interest.
                      <O</O

I just think they could simplify this whole process, which would make it easier to maintain and keep up with just a few options.<O</O

But it should also be a gradual change; small-market teams should not be competing with the Yankees budget-wise after one successful season--it should take a record of success over several years. Something like this could easily be overdone to the point where the Padres win the WS in year 1 and suddenly have $150 million to spend on payroll, which would just be ridiculous. And declines should happen faster than increases; it takes longer for a team to grow a fan base than it does for a losing team to shed paying customers.

Making the playoffs (and the number of playoff home games you have) should also give a nice boost to the organization's budget for the following year.

I was kind of thinking of what drives attendance and came up withi this...probably not complete on what can and does impact attendence, but probably a pretty good starting point.

-Market size – This would define your minimum attendance and is primarily based on the population that surrounds your stadium. This is for the most part a fixed number that is dependent upon the size of your market. Everything else adds to this number. The one thing that could tweak this number would be ticket prices. Lower/raise prices and you can impact the base number of fans that show up.

-Current Team Standings - First Place? In the Hunt? Outside chance? Looking to next year?

-Current Team performance – Based on both your current record over a certain # of games (Maybe 10-20) . This somewhat defines how relevant and important your team is right now to your fan base. The better you are doing, the more interest you are going to draw. This kind of is combined with your current standings. If you are 16-4 over your last 20 games and have gone from last to second, interest will be peaking.

-Recent historical team performance – Like current performance, but it adds weight to the prior year. If you have played in two of the past three World Series, you are going to have a pretty devout fan base. However, if you have struggled over the past two years and are finally turning things around, you are kind of in the process of building that fan base.

-Opponent – Rivalries, Key Matchups, Fan Favorites, Popular Teams are all going to boost attendance<O</O

-Star power – Is your ace on the mound? Do you have a Hall of Famer in Center Field? A first place team with a star is likely going to sell more tickets than a first place team without one.

Some sort of calculation could be derived from these metrics that would give you a constant dynamic attendance.

Say you have a 40,000 seat stadium

                          1) Market Size - 25% Always - 10,000 (if you were the worst team in baseball for the last 10 years, had no talent and were in dead last place, you could still get 10,000 people to show up).

                          2) Standings - 25% Max - Maybe for every place down in the standings you are, you drop 5% (unless you are within say 4 or 5 games of first).

                          3) Current Team performance - 20% Max - Based on your Win % over your last 20 games. Win 75% or more games and get the full 20% as you slide down, so does the %.

                          4) Historical Team performance - 15% Max - Based on several factors (recent WS win, several playoff appearances, strong history, etc. This kind of keeps your loyal fan base showing up.

                          5) Opponent - 20% Max - Playing a division rival or a nationally popular team (Yank's, Red Sox, Card's, etc) and you see an influx of fans. They are there to see the other team, not so much your team

                          6) Star Power - 20% Max - Griffey, Bonds, Pujols, Stratsburg, Felix, Lincecum, etc. They bring people to the yard, even when their teams are out of contention.

The scale actually adds up to 125% meaning that there is more than one way to sell out a stadium. Not everything has to be perfect to get fans into the place. Some teams and players are big enough to attract fans and sell out games for poor teams.

Though the scale adds up to 125%, your capacity would be capped at 100%. So if the dynamics added up to 110% for a certain game or series, you are still going to max out at the 40,000 fans.

In addition to this, promotions and giveaways can add additional %'s if there is room available. And maybe changing ticket prices could impact your base attendance as a % of your markets population (higher tickets would lower the % and vice versa for lower prices).

I really think that a simple calculation, while not perfect, can give us a pretty realistic dynamic attendence experience.

That's a really good model you thought up. If you worked at Visual Concepts, maybe the game wouldn't have the problems it does.

I'd like to see better stat and attribute presentations in-game.

If I'm spending over a million dollars on an Inside Edge report, I expect it to have much more detail than it does. I want to see a record of the batter's previous at-bats, pitch types and locations, and results. I want to see situational spray charts and stats for grounders/fly balls. Get rid of the useless Inside Edge grades screen (Batting: C+) and replace it with something worthwhile. Some of these things are available by digging deep into the pause menu, but they should be more easily accessible while pitching or batting.

A minor change which would be helpful is the showing of speed ratings directly on the runner's inset camera. It's a hassle having to pause the game just to check speed ratings, only to forget them and have to pause again.

Also, why can't we have unlimited practice? The game's drills always involve a set number of pitches or a set number of attempts at a play. Maybe I just want to hit for hitting's sake for hours without the hassle of reloading after every 20 pitches.

I'll edit this post when I think of more.
