Anyone notice any other oddities? This list is my personal opinion so obviously it isn't the gospel, I just don't want to see Bryce Harper or Mike Trout be traded for Carlos Triunfel haha

Weird potentials
After watching the 40-man roster vid by shake (thanks by the way), I couldn't help but notice some odd potential ratings... yanksdaniel pm'd me and shared the same sentiment as I did, so I decided it was a good idea to make a thread and hopefully there's a chance these will be changed in the future:

They aren't changing it's a matter of opinion there is no right or wrong answer. We aren't Bugger King.
SpoilerChris Tillman A - Tillman has been given all of the chances in the world, and even though he posted a 2.91 ERA last year his peripherals point to that being a fluke. He's still young so a C is probably too harsh, so a B makes more sense
Zach Britton A - He was never actually good, I'd say he's a C
Nate McLouth D - He's a crappy major leaguer, but even those guys are still C's
Trayvon Robinson B - He's a 4th outfielder so he should be a C
Brandon Belt A - Not enough power to be an A, he's not a typical 1st baseman but a B still makes sense
Hector Sanchez D - Backup ML catcher, should be a C
Bret Pill B - 28 year old AAAA guy, should be either a D or C
Dan Otero B - same as Pill, D or C
Yonder Alonso A - He's good but not that good, a B makes more sense
Miles Mikolas B - you're average middle reliever, should be a C
Kyle Blanks B - looking like a AAAA guy, D or C
James Darnell B - looking like a 4th outfielder, so a C
Stephen Fife B - minor league numbers and stuff suggest back end starter, should be a C
Skip Schumaker D - ML backup, so a C
Josh Wall B - run of the mill middle reliever, so a C
Paco Rodriguez B - LOOGY, so a C
Eric Young Jr. B - super sub/utility so a C
Jonathan Herrera D - serviceable backup, so a C
Trevor Cahill A - Solid but still a mid rotation starter, so a B
Josh Collmenter B - back end starter/swingman, so a C
Adam Eaton A - Don't see him as an all-star but should be solid, so a B
Lars Anderson B - AAAA guy, D or C
Trevor Rosenthal B - Pretty sure I'm not the only one who likes him, TOR or dynamite closer, should be an A
Barret Browning B - AAAA guy, D or C
James McDonald A - #3/#4, so a B
Starting to get really lazy so I'll cut the explanations:

Re: Weird potentials
Im not fan of potential at all. Wish they would actually get rid of it. Its way to easy to see who going to be superstar. All you have to do to build franchise is load up on alot of young A potential sim 2-3 yrs and then your a playoff team every year. I thought guys potential were way last year to. I dont think they put much effort into that. Wish there was way that we could edit them. (by the way you really named alot of Cubs on that list lol)Comment

Re: Weird potentials
Thats fine that they aren't changing, just wanted to bring notice to some things we saw. Guys like Truinfel, Smoak etc. I just don't see any justification of it.
This would all be solved if we could just edit the potentials of guys already in the game

(Although I am well aware of why we can't)

Why cant we??? If its for our own franchise why not?Thats fine that they aren't changing, just wanted to bring notice to some things we saw. Guys like Truifel, Smoak etc. I just don't see any justification of it.

Re: Weird potentials
Getting rid of potential would be a stretch, but having it editable would be huge... Like you alluded to in your previous post, all you have to do in franchise is stockpile A's and basically set it and forget it lol. Plus there's all of the wacky trades like you said, but that doesn't bother me as much since I use 30-team control.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: Weird potentials
Any idea why we cant edit potential? I know 2K you can ( i realize that game is nothing like this game)Comment

Re: Weird potentials
Because potential drives player progression, player progression drives overall ratings, overall ratings drives contracts.
If we let people edit them it would wreck the team budgets in all season modes and eventually break the game. The engine in the game tries to keep the same number of A's, B's etc......... every year so that the league in 20 years down the road will resemble the league now.
Letting people just edit them with no recourse would cause a multitude of problems.Comment

Re: Weird potentials
The ability of people to just import over players allows the same thing to occur. If you wanted to break the game and have a franchise of all A's it can done relatively easily (just quite time-consuming).Because potential drives player progression, player progression drives overall ratings, overall ratings drives contracts.

Re: Weird potentials
That makes alot of sense thanks. To bad there wasnt way to have like committee that could go through and look at guys potential. Cause the potential does have huge impact when simming a franchise. Trades seem crazy sometimes. Another cool option would be to have all potential grades just be question marks and we just have to go off ratings.Because potential drives player progression, player progression drives overall ratings, overall ratings drives contracts.

Re: Weird potentials
Something else that just came to mind is that top prospects fail all the time while other prospects come out of nowwhere. So there should be something in game where if A potential that they can fall to B or C and if a prospect is a C or B they can move up if tearing it for so long in minors.Comment

Re: Weird potentials
Pretty much this... The system can already be broken, we just choose not to do it because some of us prefer realism lol.
In fact, most of the changes I suggested were downgrades... I am in the camp that believes there are too many A's and B's in the game.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: Weird potentials
I dont have problem with B's. I do think there are to many A's. When i think of A players i think of superstars. B's to me should be about 90% of the starters around MLB. 10% starters are superstars. Then most bench guys should be C's. Only A's in bullpen should be CL. All setup and middle relieve guys should be B and C. Just my opinion. Why it would be cool to be able to edit them but i understand why we cant now. My next proposition would be to make an option where i can turn potential into ? marks. Make franchise alot more fun. Just have to go off stats and ratings. Cause im not going to lie when i sim and make trades on franchise i go after A potential only. I try not to look at it but its so hard not to. Perfect example is Garza with Cubs. He a B potential but rating is very good on 12. He actually better then some A potential but if i get offered a A potential starter for him il do it cause i want to see that A potential lolComment

Re: Weird potentials
In terms of all the guys you downgraded in your post because they haven't proven to be anything more than a below-average to average player so far in their MLB careers: Jose Bautista, Ryan Vogelsong, Cliff Lee, and Jason Hammel (amongst others) say hi
.
But, yeah, I would love the ability to edit potential, simply because so much of it comes down to opinion. Understand why we can't have it, though.Mariners Baseball | Lakers Basketball | Rams FootballComment
