Re: Do you trust your catcher?

Well, twice this year I've had a perfect game in the 7th inning and didn't like the call by my catcher. So both times I stepped off and got another sign...and the perfect game ended immediately after. Last night, I shook one off and David Wright took Scherzer out of the yard on the next pitch.

Lesson learned...now I'm just going to nod as if my catcher is Crash Davis!

Has anyone actually tried to throw the game the catcher calls?
I only go with what catcher calls. Makes it a bit more realistic for me.

Re: Do you trust your catcher?

I would say 90% of the time I throw what the catcher calls and for the most part I'm successful. The other 10% of the time, I find that I overthink things and try to go with my own pitch and sometimes I'm successful.

This thread got me to thinking and the next game I play I'm going to go 100% with the catcher and see what happens.

Re: Do you trust your catcher?

It depends if he asked for the same type of pitch more then 3 times in a row I throw what I like. If a power hitter is up and he asked for a low curve ball down the middle, not going to happen because it usually will hang. Also I will not throw a curve if a runner is on third. 80% of the time I will throw what the catcher asked for

Re: Do you trust your catcher?

This year I just seem to trust his calls much more than in years past.

Re: Do you trust your catcher?

I've always let the catcher call the whole game. The only time I don't throw what he calls for is if I make a mistake.

It's probably a coincidence, but in my Braves franchise it seemed AJ always called for every pitch from all of my pitchers in 15, but anytime Bethancourt got some time in he called only two pitches all game. Fastball and changeup, or fastball and slider. He'd never call for cutters, curves, or even 2 seamers. That's why I traded him for another C prospect, but I don't remember how he called.
