Re: PS5 VRR Support Coming This Week

    OK!

Changed all my settings to vincents LGCX recommendations for the ps5...including the controversial warm 2 colour temp!....and have to say i love it!!

I'm blown away at how low the latency is between button press and the reaction on screen. I was very early on everything which is understandable given i'm used to a certain amount of lag. To balance it out i've increased FB & BB pitch speed to max on the sliders and it's a game changer! The 100mph fastballs are flying in but the low latency allows me to recognise it and swing in time.

The best bit is by increasing the pitch speed it also increases the speed when you're pitching too...so now my 95mph+ fastballs no longer look as thought they're floating to the plate, it's much similar to real life which i'm loving.

Only downside from the settings is that i'm having some stuttering when the balls hit to the outfield. Nothing major but a slight annoyance. It's not a frame rate drop though because its not dropping below 50 odd fps (if you press the green button on your lg remote multiple times you can see the output), so must be something else causing it.

    Anyway i'm delighted!

I have a cx as well but a xbx not a ps5 but think there might be a possible stuttering issue if you engage the 120 hz mode on a ps5. Try it at 60 and see if the stutter goes away. That will likely affect the gain in smoothness and lag input from 120 so a trade off I guess.

Glad to see you've seen the light lol. And I was a little put off by warm 2 at first, but on the Kelvin scale, it's the most accurate. But yeah, with a TV like yours, the benefits of game mode certainly should be taken full advantage of. In game mode, you get rid of all the post processing, which you definitely don't want as it will screw up input lag, and the picture in general.

As far as the stuttering, this seems to be something introduced with the latest patch. Some seem to be having issues and some don't, but on Series X I'm seeing a little that I didn't see before. So in my case, I would say the patch may be the culprit.

So I have a LG OLED C9 and it's says my TV doesn't have VRR support. It's in game mode too. I have my ps5 passing through a Yamaha AV receiver. Does the receiver have to support VRR too? LG states that the C9 supports VRR.

Have you activated instant game response?

              No. I don't think so.

Edit: yes. It's activated. I'm certain it's the AV receiver.

You're right on the slight stutter on fly balls. Doesn't happen everytime. The low latency is fantastic. I upped fastball and breaking ball speed and it's still awesome.

FYI: super important to have hdr adjusted 14 clicks (per Vincent) for pS5 on LG OLED if you're using HGIG. Mine was off and reduced brightness noticeably.

I did his HDR adjustments a few months ago but will need to tweak it now I’m on hgig so thanks for reminding me!

I haven't received the variable refresh rate update on my ps5 yet and I don't know why.... I keep trying to update system features but never get the vrr option in the screen and video settings..... I have the Sony a80j oled (2021 model) which has the vrr feature.....

Does anyone have any suggestions on if I'm doing something wrong or maybe the vrr update just isn't available in my area yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn your ps5 off completely then check settings again. Should pop up now.

Thank you so much.... That did the trick. I always just put my ps5 in rest mode and never would have thought to turn it off to get it to work.

How’s the stuttering looking post-patch, any difference?

It's been smooth for me with no stuttering

I've only played two games, one in Arizona with the roof open and one closed. It's playing great with no stuttering. After adjustment, the HDR effect on the OLEDs in HGIG mode is fantastic, Chase field w the roof open and a sunny day is a great way to see the effect.

I love playing in Chase Field with the roof open. Just a beautiful stadium
