Re: 7th Official NBA 2K25 Player Ratings Update - 2.13.25

My only problem is why do players that get traded get dropped. Let's give them a chance to **** up [emoji23].

Thank for Instance, Paul George.... This guy looks flat out terrible. I have nothing to defend him. He's bad.

Cade Cunningham.... So proud of this dude. I'm going to check what they boosted

His teammate Asuar Thompson is another worldly talent. Like his brother he's been causing problems. Even thought shooting a limitation. Both brothers are really good at cutting. I love watching them play.

Stephen Castle every game this month he's locking himself into ROTY award.

I wasn't able to identify who this was referring to (my guess is Schroder, because Pistons), but as with every update it's 99% about their production. Max Christie is a +2.

Schroder played like dog**** with Golden State and got demoted from the starting lineup.
He is not starting w/ DET, and hasn't turned it around either (26 FG% in 3 games w/ DET).

Most traded players didn't get updates - many of them missed games due to the travel / getting acclimated, and thus didn't register a meaningful enough sample.

Thank for Instance, Paul George.... This guy looks flat out terrible. I have nothing to defend him. He's bad.
This week has been brutal and I'm sure last night's 2-point explosion wasn't even a factor in this update.

George is a tough one because he's a two-way player and still maintains some star player tendencies. His shot creation and playmaking are strong, he still takes a ton of contested mid-range. His finishing ability has completely fallen by the wayside, he can't get to the rim anymore on-ball, which is why he's taking all these tough twos. There are a lot of similarities to DeMar DeRozan (George is still way better defensively), but the expectations / contracts aren't.

He needs to change up his offensive role to be more of a complimentary guy. Of course that's easier said than done when Embiid is in and out of the lineup. Certainly not what fans want to hear when he's making 50M+. I'll probably do a full dive on him, have previously touched on it in a video.

The impact of James Harden probably shouldn't be understated. George had resurgent efficiency last season, going from 37 3PT% to 41% (and is back down to 36% this year). Note that Norm Powell is having a big year out of nowhere.

He does have a badge update (-2).

Cade Cunningham.... So proud of this dude. I'm going to check what they boosted
He does have a badge update (+1, probably other changes)

His teammate Asuar Thompson is another worldly talent. Like his brother he's been causing problems. Even thought shooting a limitation. Both brothers are really good at cutting. I love watching them play.
Ausar likewise has a badge update (+2).

Stephen Castle every game this month he's locking himself into ROTY award.
Ditto for Castle (+2). You're 4 for 4. Either there was a massive badge update or you can pick em.

Re: 7th Official NBA 2K25 Player Ratings Update - 2.13.25

touched up the list as of course I missed a few players on first pass through.

Daniel Gafford went (-1) to 83 Ovr

Odd but both Rockets players - Jalen Green (-1) 85 Ovr + Fred VanVleet (-2) 81 OVR were dropped according to the official ratings released on the 2K website but were not applied in the acutual roster. I'm sure they will get rectified later but just making note of it.

Quite a few players changed positions, I don't know if any ratings other than intangibles were changed in order to correctly rate them if their Ovr changed up or down because of the positon update.

This is actually weird. Jalen Green was hot a or so ago. He only went up a point or 2. Then drop him. Van Fleet I kind of get. But he's been hurt for a while now.

While VanVleet only played two games in this cycle, his last 4 games overall were pretty brutal: 7 PPG in 31 MPG, along with 23 3PT%

This is actually weird. Jalen Green was hot a or so ago. He only went up a point or 2. Then drop him.
              Green's last 7 games: 41.3 FG%, 29.7 3PT%, 69.2 FT%
              Update cycle prior (10 games): 46.2 FG%, 43.8 3PT%, 89.8 FT%

If Green showed any consistency THAT would be the surprise.

                Badge post updated.

That accounts for 53 players with Badge updates, which is a new record for 2K.
That's about 10% of the league.

There's quite a few I disagree with (naturally), but for the most part it's a positive update. This is the type of effort we have been asking for.

Checking in on Paul George, who has fallen off a cliff this season.
He was among the few players to lose badges in this roster update.
Is 2K doing him justice, or are they just mailing it in by adjusting the same ol categories?

Paul George 2025 Rating Edit (35 Games, 1124 Minutes)

                  INSIDE SCORING
                  75 (-12) Driving Layup: 40-72 FG (56 FG%, 38 AST%, 2.3 FGA/36)
                  65 (-20) Driving Dunk: 8-12 FG (67 FG%, 38 AST%, 0.4 FGA/36)
                  45 (-10) Standing Dunk
                  75 (+5) Post Fade: 21-46 FG (46 FG%, 19 AST%, 1.5 FGA/36)

                  70 (-5) Post Control: 1.1 Post/36
                  45 (-10) Draw Foul: 17.3% FTR / 2.7 FTA/36
                  35 (-1) Offensive Rebound: 2.0 ORB%

2K has dropped George's Layup rating a whopping 2 points.
They haven't touched his Dunk rating at all in the last 5 years.

                  OUTSIDE SCORING
                  97 (+18) Close Shot: 60-129 FG (47 FG%, 27 AST%, 4.1 FGA/36)
                  75 (-12) Mid-Range: 28-82 FG (34 FG%, 25 AST%, 2.6 FGA/36)
                  85 (+5) 3PT Shot: 82-226 FG (36 FG%, 65 AST%, 7.2 FGA/36)
                  82 (NC) Free Throw: 69-84 FT (82 FT%, 2.7 FTA/36)
                  70 (+5) Shot IQ: 54 TS%, 24 USG%

George's shot selection has been his biggest foible this season. He isn't getting to the rim, and is instead settling for lots of long jumpers. Unfortunately, his efficiency on these has cratered. 2.6 Middys is among the highest rates in the league, and only hitting 34% means he straight up shouldn't be taking them (43% last season, 41% Career).

2K Sports doesn't account for this. They have George's Mid-Range at 87, as they erroneously believe his 11-15 Feet shooting data should qualify as Mid rather than Close (which is why our numbers invert).

The three ball is actually underrated for George, as he's shooting a solid percentage on a difficult shot diet.

Based on those AST rates and middling FG%, it's clear George needs to take a lesser role in the offense. His efficiency would likely return if he accepted he's no longer a star, and took a more complimentary role in the offense.

                  PLAYMAKING
                  90 (+3) Ball Handle: 6.9 PNR+ 3.7 ISO/36
                  68 (-4) Pass Vision: 22.0 AST%
                  80 (+5) Pass IQ: 1.7 A/T
                  75 (-3) Pass Accuracy: 1.5 Bad Pass/36
                  80 (NC) Hands: 0.8 Lost Ball/36

George is using 11.7 On-Ball Possessions per 36 minutes (6.9 PNR + 3.7 ISO + 1.1 POST), which is quite high for a player with only 24 USG%. His passing isn't adding much relative to other players with that large of an offensive load.

He reminds me of a bad version of Jayson Tatum.

                  DEFENSE
                  69 (-4) Defensive Rebound: 17.8 DRB%
                  75 (-4) Interior Defense
                  80 (-7) Perimeter Defense
                  49 (-2) Block: 1.4 BLK%
                  83 (+3) Steal: 2.7 STL% (6th in NBA)

                  ATHLETICISM
                  75 (-4) Speed
                  75 (-4) Speed w/ Ball
                  75 (-12) Agility
                  65 (-23) Vertical
                  65 (-5) Strength: 6'8" / 220 lbs
                  90 (-5) Stamina: 32 MPG
                  85 (+10) Hustle: 4.3 Deflections/36, 1.2 LooseBalls/36
                  65 (-20) Durability: 67% GP w/ Clippers (2020-2024)

2K never updates Athleticism ratings. George is 34 years old. He's not the phenom he was with the Pacers. That was 3 teams and 7 years ago.

The Hustle rating might seems odd but George leads the Sixers in Deflections & Loose Balls. I don't think his "motor" has gotten higher, rather his IQ is compensating for a lot (not dissimilar from an older Jordan having a high Hustle rating).

                  MENTAL
                  65 (-5) Offensive Consistency: -0.5 OBPM
                  70 (-15) Defensive Consistency: 0.2 DBPM
                  85 (+5) Pass Perception
                  80 (-8) Help Defense
                  80 (+20) Intangibles: Starter

Note that I was able to drop George's OVR rating without having to resort to Intangibles shenanigans.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY ZION GAS PULL UP RATINGS IN THE 40'S ABD 50'S?

HE HAS LITERALLY NEVER TAKEN A SHOT OFF THE DRIBBLE PAST 12-15 FEET, HE MAJES A HIGH *** PERCENTAGE OF PULL UPS ABD FADEAWAY'S FROM 8-12 FEET, BUT HE TAKES 1 EVERY 3-4 GAMES.

He slashes more than any player in NBA history and has a bag similar to D Wade off the dribble (he still has slow *** big man dribble moves in the game).

I hate playing against the Pels because Zion keeps taking jumpers from mid or fadeaway jumpers from the post. It's unrealistic as hell and irritating as hell.

His pull up and jump shot tendencies should ALL be under 20. He's the most efficient scorer in NBA history for a reason. It's because he gets ALL THE WAY to the basket everytime he touches the rock. And that's not an exaggeration lol.

2K does Zion dirty every year. He's one of the most explosive players ever off a live dribble but 2K Zion only has straight line speed. He's more agile than Bron or Durant when going to the basket. Z is a combination of Shaq and Wade.

CAN WE PLEASE GET A VIDEOGAME VERSION OF ZION THAT ACTUALLY PLAYS LIKE REAL LIFE ZION?

His jump shot tendencies have been high as hell for 5 years.

Does the developers ever play against the CPU Pelicans and notice that Zion will pull up a jump shot with a wide open lane? Do they notice that all of his post ups end with a fadeaway jumper?

That is is trash man smh

I ran a 6-minute quarter of Pels vs Jazz within my roster. Zion predominantly force-fed in the post. He went 1-5 and these weren't great looks. He did take one Fade but it was otherwise all Hooks. The CPU is way too methodical and not decisive enough. Perhaps most importantly, they treat him like Charles Barkley bullying down guys, whereas Zion is at his best when he is getting downhill ala LeBron.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nGdORddpqCs?si=0oZiGulMpe8b7k6Q" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                      Zion's Playtypes
                      1. Post Up Low (12.2% of Offense)
                      2. Isolation (21.3% of Offense)
                      3. Handoff Receiver (4.7% of Offense)
                      4. Cutter (7.5% of Offense)

                      ABSENT
Pick & Roll Ball Handler (14.5% of Offense)
Pick & Roll Man (4.2% of Offense)

The Pelicans playbook has 20 Pick & Rolls but NONE of these are in Zion's playbook. They instead consider Post Ups to be his most common playtype (which is also why he's backing down, rather than facing up).

For whatever reason they've opted for Handoff/Cutter > P&R as well.

                      Compare this to Giannis
                      1. Isolation (16.9%)
                      2. Post Up Low (15.6%)
                      3. P&R Ball Handler (10.2%)
                      4. Cutter (8.4%)

                      ABSENT
                      P&R Roll Man (9.3%)

The Tendencies are only half the battle. Right off the bat, they're not even putting him in the proper positions and settings for those to function the way they're supposed to.

(Also it's 2025, why can players still only be assigned 4 playtypes? Zion uses as many as 6)

I adjusted Zion's Playtypes (Iso/P&R/Post/Cut) without touching any of his Tendencies. He's not spamming Post Ups. He's attacking off the dribble from the 3pt line.

Pick & Roll Man (4.2% of Offense)

The Pelicans playbook has 20 Pick & Rolls but NONE of these are in Zion's playbook. They instead consider Post Ups to be his most common playtype (which is also why he's backing down, rather than facing up).

For whatever reason they've opted for Handoff/Cutter > P&R as well.

                            Compare this to Giannis
                            1. Isolation (16.9%)
                            2. Post Up Low (15.6%)
                            3. P&R Ball Handler (10.2%)
                            4. Cutter (8.4%)

                            ABSENT
                            P&R Roll Man (9.3%)

The Tendencies are only half the battle. Right off the bat, they're not even putting him in the proper positions and settings for those to function the way they're supposed to.

(Also it's 2025, why can players still only be assigned 4 playtypes? Zion uses as many as 6)

I adjusted Zion's Playtypes (Iso/P&R/Post/Cut) without touching any of his Tendencies. He's not spamming Post Ups. He's attacking off the dribble from the 3pt line.
Dope post fam, greatly appreciated. I had started messing with the play types about 2 weeks ago and I definitely added P&R and changed some things (added high post touches) and yea that helped a lot. However didn't quite fix the issue. His pull up tendencies while slashing are too high, so even with the P&R added if the defender stops his drive (default dribble pack is too slow for him and he has the big man change if direction moves and Zion changes direction like a guard) he will shoot too much. He will also stop and pop if someone is under the basket while slashing. Not every time, but he just doesn't do that irl. He has step backs and one dribble pull ups around 8-12 feet irl. He's probably shot less than 10 shots from 15-22 feet in his career.

Do you have any idea where I can post at to ask the 2K team to fix his dribble package and tendencies?

                              Just so we have them:

                              Zion Mid-Range Tendencies
                              5 Contested
55 Pull Up (Drive Pull Up)
                              25 Stepback

                              Zion 3PT Tendencies
                              0 Contested
25 Pull Up (Drive Pull Up)
                              25 Stepback
                              0 Transition Pull

While Pull Up and Stepback appears high, 25 is actually the floor of where they want that Tendency (effectively a zero).

The 55 Mid-Tend is another story however. To give context to that:

                              Pelicans Pull Up Mid Tend
99 DeJounte Murray, CJ McCollum, Jordan Hawkins, Brandon Boston Jr
                              70 Bruce Brown
                              55 Zion Williamson, Jose Alvarado
                              45 Kelly Olynyk
                              40 Trey Murphy, Jamal Cain
                              35 Karlo Matkovic
                              30 Herb Jones
25 Yves Missi, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Antonio Reeves

As an aside w/ Reeves, there are so many players who enter the game butchered and then never get addressed (This Zion Mid Tend is likely one such instance of this). Reeves is basically the same type of player as Hawkins/Boston Jr.

                              FWIW
                              Zion Pullups: 6-14 2PT, 1-3 3PT
                              Zion Stepbacks: 2-2 2PT, 0-1 3PT

That's one 2PT Pull per 36.... out of his 22 FGA/36 (5% of his shots).

He will also stop and pop if someone is under the basket while slashing. Not every time, but he just doesn't do that irl. He has step backs and one dribble pull ups around 8-12 feet irl. He's probably shot less than 10 shots from 15-22 feet in his career.
It's actually not even in the 8-12 range.

                              Zion 2025 (507 mins)
                              At Rim: 73-103 FG (71 FG%, 51 AST%, 7.3 FGA/36)
                              3-10 ft: 76-158 FG (48 FG%, 46 AST%, 11.2 FGA/36)
                              10-16 ft: 6-18 FG (33 FG%, 33 AST%, 1.3 FGA/36)
                              16ft-3pt: 0-2 FG (0 FG%, 0 AST%, 0.1 FGA/36)
                              3PT: 3-12 3PT (25 FG%, 67 AST%, 0.9 FGA/36)
                              TOTAL: 168-397 FG (59 FG%, 49 AST%, 21.8 FGA/36)

There is a disconnect in 2K for both players and devs as to what qualifies as a "Mid-Range" shot.

Only 5% of Zion's shots occur in the 10-16 foot range.
90% of his shots occur inside of 10 feet.

51% of Zion's shots are in the 3-10 foot range, where he didn't get all the way to the rim.

2K seems to think Zion needs to be prodded to not get all the way to the rim, but this is what happens when you have some dork who doesn't watch basketball in charge of editing spreadsheet data. Those shots naturally occur when the DEFENSE stops him from getting all the way to the rim (i.e. they are a REACTION). It isn't a result the IRL player is actively "looking" for.

Do you have any idea where I can post at to ask the 2K team to fix his dribble package and tendencies?
Unfortunately, the best you can do is hope they read posts like this. They're off the grid.
