Regarding the toxicity of 2k multiplayer:

    Happy Friday!

You guys can close this down if it's too spicy.

So, I been playing 2k back on ps4, where people actually are. Feels good. On the mic, too. I wanted to make a statement and also question if other people have had similar experiences.

People been saying "U TRASH" when you miss your first shot or when you don't pass them the ball, as you continue to lose, they keep yapping. Got into some 'discussion' with a dude about whether or not he has ever played bball, and he was like YA BUT THAT DONT MATTER. It's like... actually it does, then he started taking about his stats and teammate grade and was going in until he realized he was wrong and that I had an A+ and just as many rebs as he did. Then he started calling me an A-rab. haha. I'm not Middle Eastern at all, but like... what is this? And it's not like he said it once. That was just what he went in on.

Then met this other dude who after saying trash when straight to the CRACKER thing. I'm not a "cracker", either, but the hatred in this dudes voice when he was calling me a cracker and telling me "KYS" (with the phrase.) Personally, due to life circumstance, I have a problem w/ that meme, but I realize it's kind of spread so...

I mean, I met dudes who were nice, too. Met some dudes who were kinda messing up but they were on the mic like my bad, yknow. Met a dude on the other team who cut on his mic and was trying to give my boy advice on a build that was wetter, said gg and all. But... mainly I wanna know when did this happen?

When did 2k become racist? I mean I know most of these dudes are pretty young, but the dude who called me an A-Rab wasn't.

Also, how do we stop this without like... snitching. I asked the dude who kept saying CRACKER CRACKER CRACKER if he'd ever seen Good Will Hunting. Then I just kept saying "It's not your fault..." haha. It strangely worked tho. Like some goos frabba ish. It's just crazy tho... no one you spend 7-10 minutes of your life with should put such hatred on you.

The 2K community is very toxic, but nothing tops 2006-2012 COD. Thank goodness parties are an option.

It's interesting. I wonder if this response is similar in something like FIFA ( or another sport with a large amount of people that have [at least] casually tried with others irl).

Play now is completely different. It seems people kinda give up on themselves quick on the mic.

I've had a grown man laugh at me on the mic and accuse me of cheesing because I was..****NNING plays.

Nothing more needs to be said about the 2K community.

I think that's just online gaming in general. It's the main reason why I never mic up in any game. I'm not trying to make friends, and I'm not trying to hear nonsense. Truthfully, I don't want to hear your damn music, your phone conversations, your kids in the background, your constant b*tching about the game and/or teammates, your unsolicited advice on how to play, your opinions about whatever hot topic, etc.

I just want people to STFU and play the game as it was intended to be.

I feel u. I been on net. I been in chat rooms back when they were a thing. But what I'm saying is this is surprising to me. I'm not offended per se just kind of surprised.

Maybe it's covid. I get on mic cuz when u play team games coms can help. But Yea the music and babies thing is true. But I mean I never recall people trying to be racist before on 2k.

It's whatever haha I guess dudes are not worried. Gg then.

Unfortunately trash talking is a part of the game of basketball on almost all levels and on the internet people get out of control with it due to being safe from the consequences (i.e. a "hard foul",elbow, or left hook) that you might face IRL basketball for crossing the line.

I wouldn't say unfortunately since it's been part of the game since forever and has its place in the game a la MJ vs Gary Payton. To me can be one of the traits that show me if the player gives a crap if they win or lose. It also makes some IRL games hella competitive/intense and fun to be apart of and satisfying when you shut somebody up with your play lmao. I'd rather be apart of those types of games where everyone is ultra competitive, then those runs where some don't even care if they win or lose.

But yeah it's the internet and kinda gotta expect it. I'm more 'offended' over random's stupidity and braindead level basketball iq tbh lol.

I don't mind trash talk in basketball itself; I think it's unfortunate in the sense that people immediately jump on it an easy excuse to act as annoying as possible online.

I get annoyed with low iq play as well but I think at this point I've come to accept that online 2K won't ever be the "real basketball" experience I am looking for; I can get as mad as I want but as long as it makes the kind of money it does now it's not going to change.

Like others have said, this culture of ignorance pretty much touches every multiplayer experience. But with 2k it seems worse because that's the game I play most.

I personally set up a party by myself whenever I hop on 2k. The level of immaturity has grown over the years, and as a person with the type of basketball background I have, its ridiculous to have 2k give me 1 bad animation and have some kids tell me I'm trash and never touch the ball the rest of the game.

My approach to this game has changed completely, these days I go in knowing I wont get the basketball experience I want unless its MyLeague with a ton of slider and tendency adjustments. Online...just try as hard as u can to have fun and understand that 2k wants their game to be played this way. Just laugh at the foolishness.

Man I've never mic'd up but one time I was watching my nephew play (who was 13 at the time) and he was mic'ed up....and I tell you it was a cussing fest lol...I mean kids just cussing up a storm lol

Now my nephew wasn't cussing but I bet my salary if I wasn't around, he would just be acting like them.

                              Re: trash talk I’m down.

Gets me pumped. I’m talking about your teammates haha u don’t trash talk ur teammates. So that’s not it. I played w a really good pg (at least 2k wise), might even have a vid w mic and he was just yapping the whole time. Ironically he made two crucial mistakes down the stretch.

But I got on for a sec to tell him not to criticize every wrong decision or say “I’m open” every play cuz it messes w team morale. Then cut off. He was saying he’s a sore loser and it’s like yea ok. Taking Losses to heart and blaming your team for everything, even when they maybe did make a mistake is not the same thing.

I have Like video memory of games and losses and mistakes I made and insanely bad decisions people made. Don’t need to hear yapping every time someone misses a shot.

Racism and tru toxicity seems to be a park thing tho haha.
