    Re: Official NBA2k11 Impressions Thread

I'm pretty sure everyone has read the IGN Review @ this point so I don't wanna reiterate everything that was said there as far as how great this game is but it's difficult not 2. The 1st day I got it I played in awe. I was hours in b4 I looked @ my homeboy and asked "Yo, what's WRONG with it"?? With conviction he said "Nothing"! Now, although it isn't perfect, there's very.....VERY little 2 nitpick this year. And mind u, I'm playing the PS3 version which I was told is an older build than the XBox version with a few more bugs. Some I've noticed is the 'on the fly' substitutions are a little jacked up. Sometimes I'll make subs and by the next dead ball, the same 5 are out there. During timeouts if u make subs then go 2 change ur point of emphasis or match-ups, it negates ur subs. Ur subs should be the last thing u do b4 returning 2 the game. This can be fixed with a simple patch tho. Also when u press Select 2 call a T/O it doesn't give u an option 2 choose a 20 or a full. This is specifically a PS3 issue cause I saw it was included in the xbox version. The AI defense OD's a little much with the steals but once u get a feel 4 the game, ur turnovers will drop drastically. @ times it's still a little unrealistic so I tweaked the sliders a little and it feels much better now. Basically, 4 people who play 2K like an And 1 mixtape, ur gonna have 2 reel that in a bit. But wait, they have an option 2 play Arcade style so u can switch 2 that and have a ball. Damn, these guys covered all their bases. Ummm...what other problems does the game have??? I'm really thinking here It's crazy cause out of the box, as u all know, 2K10 was LITTERED with bugs, glitches and gameplay hiccups. However, this year everything just feels and looks so great! NBA 2K11 is like a beautiful woman with a model's body who also has a great personality, is funny, loves sports and drinks beer! The polish and attention 2 detail is outstanding. The teams truly play like their real life counterparts and star players shine as brightly as they should. I even messed around with the Blacktop mode. Check out the dunk contest if u wanna see even more beautiful player models! Wow! It looked like a moving photograph of MJ! The only concern I have with 2K is...where does it go from here??? I'm a firm believer in this company and technology as a whole but this game is equivalent 2 a truly classic album...Ready 2 Die...Illmatic...Reasonable Doubt...it's gonna be hard 2 top it but I believe it'll happen. Until that time comes tho....CLAP 4 EM!!!

Game is so deep it isn't even funny. I was gonna wait to play association but I really wanted to see how teams adapted throughout the the season. Every game has been different I played the Rockets and they just meticulously dismantled me. Yao and Kevin Martin were getting to the line at will. Yao shut us down inside and the took it to my lakers with hustle points. Now I'm playing the Suns who signed AI. Needless to say they have my team scrambling to get back on D. I've been able to pound them down low so far. The amazing thing is how they've adapted their style to bring AI into the fold. They are pushing it up the court and getting it to him on the wing where he is swooping in and finishing AI style. It's amazing to see.

I can't wait till injuries start to come in play and seeing if that how that alters the way teams play. Right now the teams adapt like living, breathing organisms.

EDIT - I also love how the suns, a team that Iverson could fit in with, was the one that signed him.

Speaking of injuries... (warning: contains spoiler)

In MyPlayer mode, I came down from a rebound and tweaked my ankle. After that, I couldn't move around without limping. The only way I could keep up was 2 sprint which obviously utilizes more stamina which I guess simulates playing hurt. Anyway, after the game, the Insider told me I had a nagging injury that I could play thru (which would take 4 days 2 heal) or sit out (in which case I'd heal in 2). I chose 2 play thru it and b4 the next game they showed a cut scene of me shooting around pre-game in my warmups with some random staff member; visibly being attentive 2 my ankle. Thought that was awesome!

Length is represented VERY well this year. Teams like the Lakers who have long centers completely stop penetrating guards like Rondo/Parker/etc from getting that floater off. They rebound well also. Each team makes you adjust to what they do well

I had Paul Gasol on me (Joe Johnson) after a pick and I was able to get a fade away jumper off thinking I had a mismatch but his length tipped my shot. I thought it was goal-tending but after the replay I saw the ball was still on the way up.....the length is definitely a nice addition

this game really separates the scrubs from the stars...you really need to call plays so that the star get the ball! only negative i can think of is that i mostly spent my time creating the old school players for the Jordan challenges...i maybe played a total of 3 full games :/

Oh and I haven't tried playing 12 minutes yet but I'm up 2 9 and just now getting more realistic all around stat lines. The focus on plays and playing team ball really makes it necessary 2 play longer games. 4 those who care about that stuff...

                            Re: Official NBA2k11 Impressions Thread

The presentation in this years game is the best I've ever seen in a bball game. The "little things" are off the charts this year (look out for signature player reactions to calls, etc.)

The AI is relentless, and will punish you with miss matches. I've mainly played on the Pro with the Simulation mode, and they're no punish over. They'll beat you easily if you don't play team ball.

This year, you absolutely have to run plays, and try to mimic how the team plays in real life in order to win games.

I've bounced around between Real Player %, and Shot Stick Timing, and I'm not not set on one mode yet. I will say "Shot Timing" feels more natural, and you need to increase the shooting sliders for Real Player % to be realistic, or you'll experience very low FG%, and scores. I need to up the quarter minutes, and play around with this more. The upside of Real Player % is not having to master the shot timings.

The game has the beat And1's I've ever seen. Extremely realistic. Off the ball calls here (moving screens, over the backs, etc).

I do miss the ability to walk the ball up the court, and in half court sets, because it can get a little tricky at times getting to the right spots to start a play when it's called, but this is a minor issue. I think I'm starting to notice that play will start to develop as long as your close to spot marker.

To nitpick a few other things, the AI does seem like it has the telepathic ability to deflect, and steal the ball, and fast breaks seem rare, but these things should be fixable via sliders.

NBA2K11 is easily the best, and more realistic bball game to day. It's not even close.

Look forward to seeing what peeps do with sliders to make the game close to perfect as possible.

                              Re: Official NBA2k11 Impressions Thread

I've probably played 40+ games this weekend. Here's some random game play impressions that I have:

                              PROS

                              - The days of just chucking the ball up and down the court, abusing points in the paint, and pick 'n rolling for easy dunks/lay ups are clearly over. Careless long passes or skip passes will almost always be intercepted. It's also not nearly as easy to get the ball in the paint this year, and that's because entry passes down to the block are no longer automatic. If your player is being fronted or the defender has better position down low, you better dribble or pass to someone else to get a better angle for your entry pass, or look elsewhere. Honestly, I was a TO machine early and it took a couple games for me to get used to this. The pick 'n roll is also not nearly as effective, and I mean that in a good way. You'll also see moving screens this year, which is great.

                              - To kind of build off of what I was saying about, it's also much harder to get to the basket this year. You can't just turbo your way around your defender for an easy dunk every possession. Also, defenders don't seem to fall for pump fakes as often either.

                              - Player differentiation is done extremely well this year. Not only can you tell a huge difference between a star player and the other players on your team, but there's also a huge difference between each star player. The addition of so many of the signature gathers no doubt plays a huge part in it.

                              - Big guys that actually have mid-range games are well represented this year. What I mean by that is you can actually shoot jumpers with big guys outside the paint and have success with it (if that's the kind of player that they are). Guys like Carlos Boozer, Carl Landry, Amare, LaMarcus Aldridge, etc. can hit shots at the top of the key or on the wing a little bit inside the 3-point line. Heck, even a guy like Kurt Thomas can hit an open J in this game. It definitely makes the game much more enjoyable when guys that come off your bench can actually contribute and serve a purpose other than just giving your starters some rest.

                              - I won't get too much into the classic teams, but they are so fun to play with. I'm a huge sim guy, but I might have to have a separate season where I incorporate all of the classic teams into Association mode.

                              - Jump shooting is incredibly fun/rewarding this year. The quick releases of last year are gone, and the signature shots really look great.

                              - Iso-motion is improved and the moves feel much smoother when you pull them off.

                              CONS

                              - Fast breaks are very hard to come by. Even when you have a player ahead of the pack, he seems to stop a little bit while he's waiting for the ball, which allows the defense to catch up to him.

                              - Unless you call a play, your players on offense don't move very much. It's extremely frustrating, especially when the shot clock is winding down and nobody is trying to get open.

                              - I was a little disappointed with the Jordan Challenge, but only because you have to play 8 minute quarters. The games are fun, and the commentary is awesome, but you pretty much have to cheese in order to accomplish each challenge.

Honestly, there really aren't very many cons. This game does almost everything right, and is the best video game basketball experience that you'll ever have (until 2K12, that is).
