Comeback Feature/Momentum swings are making me throw this game into the dumpster

I know it has been mentioned on here countless times. So if you are tired of hearing about it, just leave now.

I am seriously thinking about doing some sort of experiment/research with the biggest flaw of NBA 2k14. I noticed the momentum swings right away when I first started playing this game and a lot of people on here thought I was crazy for believing in such a thing. A few of you noticed it too, I will say.

I play exclusively online (for money actually). I can't even count how many total games I have played. The 2k developers can say what they want, but I know for a fact there is such a thing as a comeback feature. And if you've played enough, you should notice it.

Now I understand comebacks and momentum swings happen in real life, I GET IT. I've watched enough basketball to realize that, and I know this is just a video game. But when I say I would rather be down by 5 with 2min left than be up by 5, you know something is wrong.

This also may sound crazy, but I am 99% confident that the sliders CHANGE on their own during these momentum swings. For example, if I am in a comeback feature against a guy online, instead of the sliders being on 50 (or whatever the default is), they will automatically go up to a number like 70 or 75 and allow me to hit more shots, get lucky strip steals, blocks, etc. so I can comeback. I know I'm going out on a limb saying that, but I'm a big believer that is the case when it comes to momentum swings.

I haven't played the next gen version yet, but I really hope this type of B.S isn't on there. The developers of 2k14 can say whatever they want about how there is no such thing as a comeback feature or huge momentum swings. But I've played this game enough to realize there are.

But you won't be able to do "some sort of experiment/research" if you "throw this game into the dumpster".

It happens in blacktop also, if you are down 6-8 points just throw up 3s (2pointers in blacktop) and they WILL go in. Also playing online I use the Mavs and I will be up 12-15 points heading into the 4th quarter and all of sudden I cant make a lay up, I "pass" the ball out of bounds. miss wide open jumpers, meanwhile some no named bench player for the other guy is hitting contested 3 pointers...I feel your pain...

yeah its pretty bad, I can already tell when im goona lose. For example I can be down 8-10 going in the 4th quarter but I am always able to rally to a 4-6 point lead. Then everything just goes downhill from there, lol. Easy missed shots, opponent making all the shots in the world, etc. However, I think the worst part is the defense, idk if its just me but wow the team defense just goes full stupid when the opponent has the momentum. I on ball so sometimes I get beat by those zig zag animation BS and my bigs refuse to rotate, instead they just watch him go by why stick to the center they're guarding whose usually in the perimeter. I mean come on, what's a center going to do on the perimeter? Not to mention my wing players sag off like crazy, Not getting back on defense which equals = FB points galore.. it's really frustrating sometimes

yeah im finding it ridiculous also that I make a lot more contested jumpers than I make wide open. I blow wide open lay ups. my team doesn't react to grab rebounds or loose balls. it kills me

Pretty sure this happened to me last night in a Game 7 in the playoffs. I had a 7 point lead with 2:30 to go as the Spurs and the Blazers came back and send the game to OT with a Nic Batum near 3/4 court shot. This was after I missed 2 free throws with my PG despite getting A- grades on both of them. I ended up losing by 3 in OT.

Not to mention randomly losing the ball or playing good defense just to get a bs kick ball within the last second of the shot clock

I normally don't believe in any of these kind of video game "momentum" type phenomenons, but sometimes I really do have to wonder... I played a game the other night that was so ridiculous I almost joined the OP in throwing the game in the dumpster. I had a 9 point lead on my opponent with a few minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The guy I'm playing just starts doing NOTHING but shooting contested 3's with Kevin Durant, to try and bring him back. Funny thing is, is that it worked. I **** you not, this guy made 5 CONTESTED *** 3's in a row. Literally. I had Paul George's hand in Kevin Durant's eye sockets on every contest, but no. 5 in a row contested garbage 3's to close out the 4th. I really could not believe it. So yea, I guess that's my roundabout way of saying, I think it's possible there could be a momentum system.

Re: Comeback Feature/Momentum swings are making me throw this game into the dumpster

Last night I was accused of cheating. I was Dallas, he was Toronto. I was winning from the start. He was sending texts that I had a "mod" on Carter. I don't understand what he meant. As far as cheating, I was running the plays for Ellis and Dirk that I like. Hitting open jumpers. He did have a "comeback" run at the end of the 3rd, but the 4th I made sure to run plays that I could get Carter and Ellis to the basket. I still don't get the "mod" on Carter. He said Carter never got tired and I never subbed him, but I played Marion more min than Carter. Carter did have 27 on 11-14 shooting 0-2 from 3 and hit 5-6 FTs. Can someone explain the "mod" claim....

I use to think back when they had the clutch slider and players had a clutch rating that there was a comeback code. I know back with NBA2k11 it seemed to happen in every game, where late in the game my guy would thrown errant inbound passes and passes in general would sail over guys heads which led me to believe 2k devs were full of it when they said there was no such thing. I think this happened in 12 as well.
Since last year and especially this years version I have not noticed this or felt that I was being cheated by a code. I do only play offline against the AI and have never played online so I cant speak for that side of it, but as far as playing the AI this hasnt even crossed my mine with this years game. Teams make runs IRL and I see that in the game and feel its done very well, but I have yet to notice me go absolutely clold from the field or start throwing the ball all over the place like in previous years with this game.

Well its real. Whether you want to believe you made a miraculous comeback because you think you suddenly have mad skills, something is happening behind the scenes and I'm glad people are still addressing it.

I believe there's something, but i think it also comes down to what teams are being used and if you're the home or away team. I've won games that i didn't deserve to win and I've lost games i don't deserve. It's a bit of a lucky dip.
