    I tried NBA 2k but I didn't like it

Am I the only one who does not like NBA2k11? It seems as though everyone loves that game but I am not a big fan. I actually prefer the NBA Live Series still as I think the graphics are better, the movements are better, passing is horrendus on NBA 2k. I don't know why people are so obsessed with the other game..

Passing is not horrendous. Check out this thread: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...sing-tips.html

The game isn't perfect and neither is man, but it's an awesome game of basketball to play. The closest thing to sim out there or... you can play NBA Live.

    Good luck
Where they DO that? ? ?

Same here with you. I tried to like the 2K series for the past three years (09, 10 and 11) but I still prefer the Live series. I still even play Live 2010 (and enjoying it heaps!) while my 2K11 copy is collecting dust and waiting to get sold or traded in for some other game.

Re: I tried NBA 2k but I didn't like it

While 2K11 has nearly all the details a basketball gamer could ask for, I still feel the gameplay is just a mash-up of animations. An example of this is the animation where the defender is riding the ball-handler. When this animation is triggered, the defender can either draw a charge or reach for the steal with a nearly 100% success rate. This causes you to wait on certain animations because you know you'll be rewarded. That's not basketball, it's just an animation match.

Another example is the shot blocking. As the ball-handler if you do a lay-up with the hand away from the shot-blocker but he times his block correctly, you'll see an animation where you go up with your inside hand just so the block animation can play-out. Again, that's not basketball. It's just a mash-up of animations that look nice but don't respect real basketball strategies.

Basically my point is that a game should be built on the fundamentals of the sport; the fundamentals you learned in grade school and high school. When you have that down, then you should focus on the finer intricacies of the game. That's just my opinion.

at first i didnt like it, so i started playing live 10 and nba 2k10 again, and then i realized that it is was light years ahead of both of last years games, live 10 and nba 2k10 are soooo horrible now, nba 2k11 is amazing, it had a steep learning curve, but i can never go back to older titles, 2k11 is the closest basketball game to the sim experience, in my opinion, nba 2k10 and live 10 are both a joke in comparison to 2k11 now!

Yeah, this thread is about to get closed... but I agree. It's the foundation of 2k that is the problem, and they keep trying to hide it by adding more animations or cool extras.

It's sad that everyone who says this is labeled a ***** or if you say Live has a better core, you're a blind fan boy. Hey, I want both games to be good. I think 2k could make the better game if they started from scratch. It's not the animations or the graphics that make it bad, it's just lacking in a lot of core areas like spacing and the mid range game.

lol @ "You can play the best basketball sim or you can play NBA Live." It's stuff like that that really gets me...

Re: I tried NBA 2k but I didn't like it

I hope this thread is not closed, because we are not hating on 2k.....

FOR ME, nba 2k11 is the best NBA sim ever..... meaning that they capture all the little things that make NBA different then any other b-ball competition.

Every player on the game looks and acts like the real thing, and that is hard to accomplish knowing that every single player/team is unique...

And I say that NBA 2k11 is the best NBA sim, as apposed to the best basketball sim, simply because they lack 2 basic aspects about ANY sports game, CONTROLS and UNPREDICTABILITY

Let me explain, momentum makes almost every single action delayed, because let´s say a guy is running in one direction, he should not be able to jump in the opposite direction right away.... it makes sense, because physically sometimes its impossible to perform certain things, but if this momentum aspect is not perfect, it causes the game to be ether delayed or too fast (arcade)....

My point is that in a basketball game, body momentum is one of the most important things in any action during the game, that is why some guys can explode to the basket like it is nothing, change directions, collide mid-air like nothing hit them, or recuperate defense position after a help defense by changing directions very quickly, so if this aspect is not perfectly executed it feels horrible to play....

You saw, Elite 11 had 0 momentum, guys could jump, in 0,01s after you pressed the button, in nba 2k11, you press the button for your player to go after the cutting dribbler and your man takes 30s to start going after him....

UNPREDICTABILITY doesn´t need a lot of explaining, if you play the game for a while, you know that animations STILL have a huge impact on the success/failure you have on the game

You almost know when some animations are triggered that it will be good or bad before the sequence is finished.... it is not only about running a play, and explore the miss match, it is also about triggering certain animations that will increase the success probability......

I am not hating on the game, my point is that unfortunately, people like to overate games, simply because they manage to make Lebron play and look like lebron, and they totally forget about the lack of control you have over certain aspects of the game..... don´t get me wrong, 2k has done a huge job this year, this is not hating on them, this is an observation about how can people call this game the best ever, when it clearly is behind on CONTROLS and UNPREDICTABILITY (in my view), and the control aspect is the most important aspect of any sports game (for me)

But hey, knowing how 2k is well organized I would not be surprised if they only work on these 2 things in the next 2 or 3 games, I don´t know if the problem is the foundation, all I know, is that animations should have a bigger impact then the user input....

Love is blind and being a fanboy is a pefect example of this. i like both games, they both have their strong points and vice versa. I just prefer Live/Elite. Elite got canceled because of the fanboys on this board and i honestly dont think it deserved to be canceled. One of the things that helped 2K to get to the level they are at is how they explain the technology and the gameplay they use. for example iso-motion aka animation wars pretty much has people brain washed right now. It looks great and 2K did an awsome job over the years of compiling a variety of great animations. but alas basketball isnt disney. If EA took the time to explain how total control worked in conjunction with the rtp and give them honest expectations of the technology this wouldnt have happened. Ive only played demos of both games and I enjoy Elite more, my only gripe is no turbo and it only bothers me in the post because im like how do I back this guy down? I do understand the logic in this because its kinda unrealistic to have a turbo button. turbo=arcade and im sure it would look crazy in conjunction with rtp. Long story short Elite is the most realistic basketball game right now hands down, bar none from a controls and gameplay in a virtual 3d space perspective. 2K is the most realistic representation of basketball gaming from a fan of the sport(or NBA cuz theres no FIBA) and presentation perspective and it has good ai and logic. borrowing from live took them to top but now its time for them to rebuild, the new live/elite game will own

good post, but be real..... both games borrowed from each other..... yes Elite offered the almost "total" control that we all want, but at what price... it played ok, but looked and played nothing like real nba basketball... the shooting in elite was another good thing, but cost us player signature and differentiation, it had its strengths and had some overlookable weakness... and 2k also has some things that are hard to overlook.... but it just come down to a matter of preference.. there was no way i personally was going to shell out 60 dollars for a game that takes three year to reach it wanted developement stated peak, if it was going to take 3 yr to finish the game, then use the three yrs, not make is pay about 63 dollars a yrs for the game

Its ok not to like the game man....You should play whichever game is more fun for you...

I just dont get the "animation" argument though....Live 10's whole help defense mechanic is based off HORRIBLE mid air collision animations....Not only are there only about 5 of them as far as variety....but many of them literally break a animation and transisition to another with no sense of smoothness at all..

If its something you can "live with"...thats one thing....but its hard to grasp any logic about fundamentals being respected if you view that as acceptable.

I can see why you might not like it. I did enjoy NBA 10...the DNA part of it was awesome. And I did like using the right stick for moves etc.

2K11 is an awesome game. But coming from Live '10 like myself the learning curve to play 2K11 is very steep. The moves are complex in some areas and I do think that without sliders that "open" up the game to your liking you can find it very frustrating.

The passing is still annoying at times but with practice getting games turn over numbers can get down from 20 a game to more respectable numbers. Albeit the odd game with high turnover still happens in the NBA as well.

The presentation is amazing. If you find sliders (I recommend a set on pro difficulty).

My only gripe right now is getting my fouls by CPU down to match my fouls.

I understand where you are coming from but, you are looking at it all wrong, people fail to see the bigger picture cuz the minor details are being scrutinized such is life/live when you're trying to be elite. This game is ahead of its time. The way i sees it this game is a metaphor for life, develop your skill create your own moments and take your game to the next level. the masses arent ready for total control they'd rather follow the script. Its really upsetting i really wish I could play the full version of this game, I guess everything happens for a reason. I hope they build off of this cuz I really enjoy the demo, the more I play. And the argument about the signiture shots is not valid because from playing the demo everyone that i played with seemed to have their signature shot. This was only a demo so it really cant be judged. And if I dont recognized your shot you are not tha important and I can wait for a patch or next year version to implement the signiture shot of say hmm sonny weems
