    MLB.com Beat the Streak

    Coverage includes audio and video clips, interviews, statistics, schedules and exclusive stories.

    This has been ongoing since 2001, and nobody has yet to beat Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak it (the record is 49 consecutive games).

    Here's how it goes, it's very simple: for every date in the season you select a player. If he gets a hit that game, your streak builds. If he doesn't, your streak ends. You can pick the same player every time if you wish or you can vary it up.

    There are many strategies you want to consider choosing your players on such as focusing on the pitching match-ups, how often the player walks (you don't really want that), what stadium they're in, etc.

    This is the first year the prize is $1 million (instead of $100 K), and like everybody else, I'm determined. Signing up is free (just need an MLB.com account), I recommend that you do it.

    Here are my selections through April 21st:

    4/11 - Magglio Ordonez -> RESULT: 1 - 3
    4/12 - Joey Votto -> RESULT: 1 - 4
    4/13 - Conor Jackson -> RESULT: 1 - 4
    4/14 - Endy Chavez -> RESULT: 2 - 4
    4/15 - Brian McCann
    4/16 - Matt Kemp
    4/17 - Randy Winn
    4/18 - Kevin Youkilis
    4/19 - Chipper Jones
    4/20 - Adrian Gonzalez
    4/21 - Jermaine Dye
    4/22 - Ryan Theriot
    4/23 - Albert Pujols

    CURRENT HIT STREAK: 4
    LONGEST STREAK: 4

    If anybody knows the rule on if your player doesn't play (or get an official at bat or what have you), then that would be great if you could inform us. Thanks.

    Re: MLB.com Beat the Streak

    I got an email about this last week. I didn't know this had been going on, I thought they copied ESPN. I'll probably be picking a lot of hitters against the Nationals.

    Key rules, you must pick each day or the streak ends, only ABs count toward ending the streak, and don't pick players with double headers as they need hits in both games.

    Selecting Your Players
    Each day on which an MLB game is played during the Contest Period (each, a "Game Day"), you must select one (1) player from a list displayed by MLB.com of MLB players who are on a MLB Club's active roster on that Game Day. If you fail to select a player for any Game Day, your streak will reset to zero. The list of available players may change as a result of injury or other roster changes, so be alert. You may select any player from the list of MLB players who are on a MLB Club's active roster on that Game Day, including a player you have previously chosen. You will have until five (5) minutes prior to the start of the first MLB game being played on that Game Day to make your player selection for that Game Day, after which you may not submit a player or change your selection; however, you can make your daily player selection up to ten (10)-calendar days prior to any Game Day and may change your selection until five (5) minutes prior to the start of the first MLB game being played on that Game Day. MLB.com's computer shall be the official clock of the Contest.
    Establishing and Maintaining a Streak
    All participants start at zero. Your streak is measured by the number of consecutive Game Day(s) the player(s) you select are credited with a hit during the Contest Period.
    If you select a player for any Game Day who does not get a hit during the Game Day for which you selected him, your streak ends and must start to build your streak again from zero.
    If for any reason a player you select does not play during the Game Day for which you selected him, your streak will NOT end. A hitting streak will also NOT end if each of the selected player's plate appearances (one or more) result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. A hitting streak will end if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit. Except as set forth in the Suspended Games Sections below, your streak will remain intact in the event of any cancelled or postponed MLB game. The foregoing is based on official scoring as confirmed by MLBAM.
    In the event that a player you select plays in a double-header, your streak will only continue if the player gets at least one hit in both games in which he plays on that Game Day unless all the selected player's plate appearances (one or more) result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. For the avoidance of doubt, in the event that a player you select gets at least one hit in both games of a double-header, your streak will continue, but your streak will only increase by one (1) hit for that Game Day, and not two (2) hits

    Here are my picks for a few days.

          Alright, I'm going to try this again this year but actually try it. I mean it's going to be my home page when I go on my browser. I know it's impossible, but unlike MLB 2K10's Perfect Game Challenge, I want to actually give this a shot (I totally forgot to ever try that challenge).

            So far for me my highest streak was in 08 at 19.

            I got Jeter tonight.

            This can become a really good informative thread. Subscribed.
