Anything can happen this year....except Leafs winning a round. Too bad you can't bet on a team NOT making it to the 2nd round. That's easy money.

As for the rest of the league...

Ovechkin is on pace to pass Gordie Howe for the 2nd most goals in history. He'll have 3 milestone goals this year. 800, 801 (which ties Howe) and 802 (which has him in sole possession of 2nd).

Ovechkin and Crosby both have a shot to get 1500 career points. Ovechkin at 1410, Crosby literally right behind him at 1409.

Fleury has a shot to pass Patrick Roy for 2nd most wins in NHL history. That one is a bit harder, he needs 32 to pass.

Thornton has a shot to pass his old teammates Patrick Marleau for most games played...if Thornton plays. If he doesn't, then all 90s players are gone from the NHL!

The Winnipeg Jets are about to play more seasons in Winnipeg than in Atlanta.

They're really getting annoying with these board ads. I've only ever watched hockey during eras with ads on boards, but the digital boards are annoying. The ads change every few seconds! There needs to be a rule here, only allowed to change board ads during breaks in play.

Nice to start with a win. This will be a grind of a year for Philly. Tortorella is going to whip these boys in to shape. I don’t think that means we’ll be good, but breaking some of the habits and trends of the last... decade plus... is a welcome change. I can see this being a bad year record wise as expected but fun to see guys develop and compete.

The NHL or whoever has to be losing money on these regional random game exclusives, right? Most people don’t see that it’s streaming only on ESPN+ or Hulu when majority of games are on a local sports channel, and then they don’t have the streaming service anyway. Those viewer numbers have got to be paltry.

I think I recall similar nonsense at the beginning of last year....then there was the whole thing with playing an entire playoff series worth of games in a row vs. Arizona.

40 seconds left and Leafs score...except refs review it for 5 mins and say no goal due to a missed call on a glove pass earlier in the play.

Gotta love the refs.

The puck hit Riellys glove and just dropped. The closest player to the puck was Keller.

Leafs ended up gaining possession.

The rulebook definition of a glove pass is that its not considered a stoppage in play if it hits a players glove and he doesn't bat it towards his teammate.

To nobody's surprise, doubling down on "going for it" with a bottom-5 defence corps for the 8th or 9th season in a row has proven to be unwise.
