I too think Iowa will be too much although if Carolina can stop the running game, Iowa has zero offense. I think it will be a low scoring game but Iowa will control the clock and win by less than a touchdown

This will be one of the bowls I will boycott because they did not take the more deserving team. Iowa had a worse record than Northwestern, worse ranking, and lost at home to Northwestern- this year's Outback Bowl has lost its prestige.

A New Year's Day No Ranked Bowl is not something to rave about. Check their website. They're advertising it as the "#26 ranked Hawkeyes". I guess the Outback thinks the AP Poll just changed its rules to extend the rankings to the Top 30.

I am a College Football fan, and I want to see the kids who earned the right to a perceived more prestigious bowl get it. If a Bowl does not fulfill it and blatantly takes away from kids what they earned, I do not watch that Bowl. I want to see what's best for the game, not egos.

How has Iowa not earned their game? They beat Penn State and are ranked where they should be in the Big Ten to get this game. They worked hard and earned this game.

He has a point though. Northwestern earned a better bowl than Iowa. We can make cracks about how the BCS bowls are the only ones worth anything, but a NYD bowl is still prestigious, and Northwestern got jobbed because Iowa's a better draw.

Perhaps. However, Northwestern also gets to play in a bowl game that is not too shabby. Instead of being on NYD and being an almost unwatchable Bowl game on New Years, they get their day all to themselves, for people who are craving college football between the end of the season and NYD.

Not only that, but I'm sure the Alamo bowl and Outback bowl are pretty close in revenue. The attraction of Chicago vs St Louis will be there as well.

Either way, I don't think either school will complain.

I agree. Northwestern finished 9-3... Iowa, 8-4.

The Wildcats and the Hawkeyes both finished with 5-3 conference records.

And the clincher... Northwestern beat Iowa in Iowa City, in the Hawks' worst loss of the season.

Northwestern deserves to be in this game. Iowa deserves to go to the Alamo Bowl. Unfortunately, one thing prevented that. Guess What It I$....

In the quesion of who was more deserving of a NYD bowl, I think Iowa deserves a top tier bowl more than Northwestern though Northwestern did beat Iowa during the season but only by 5 points in a close game. Iowa had more victories over tougher tier opponents. Iowa defeated 4 teams that are playing bowls and Northwestern defeated 2 teams that are playing bowl games.
