    2012 OSFM: Seattle Mariners

In the future this first post will contain the 90 players on the community roster along with stance, motion and equipment edits.

Below is a link to a google doc. I have it set so that anybody can edit. But PLEASE DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING JUST ADD NAMES of players you want to see in the rosters.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...zVuTFpVYXNPNEE

There are 4 tabs (MLB, AAA, AA, and Prospects). I've tried to error on the side of caution in adding names to each teams. For those of you that saw my first OP there was a list of like 150 guys that I would consider to put in the file.

I've left a TON of blanks b/c I kinda wanna see who people really wanna see make the cut.

The only thing locked is the M's 25 man, just because I stole it off mlbdepthcharts and I agree with most of it. I know that AAA has like 35 guys or something but I figure some will get cut and others will just get reassigned over the course of spring training.

Any chance we could get james mcowen in there? He's an outfielder for AA Jackson, not sure how he ranks compared to the others but he had a great season for Perth in the aussie baseball league, I'm a bit of a fan ended up coming home on a wild pitch in the 13th to win the championship: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article****p...s_mlb&c_id=mlb

Yea the M's had a couple guys go off in the aussie leage. almonte crushed two hrs in the all star game and james jones also played really well.

i'll try to get all three guys in but mcowen and almonte are kinda borderline guys, old for the level and dont really look like they'll ever see the bigs.

we'll see if some how one of them can jump to AAA this spring they'll definitely be in the roster.

Updated the OP with a GoogleDoc with a ton of empty spots if there's a guy in particular you want to add.

So, shall we start discussing our prospect grades? I'm eager to hash all that out

The minors looks like they are decently filled out to this point on your doc run&shoot.

I think Paxton should be an A....they are talking that him and Hultzen are both right there and could be called up later in the year. Both are studs.

Also, I played the game down at my local Best Buy...none of these guys, our top 4 prospects are in the game. When the first roster update comes out, do you guys think they'll be in there? With pictures?

the official SCEA roster wont have em in the game until they're on the 25 man, and they wont have their pics in the game until next year. although i plan on doing faces for the A/B and select C prospects.

The Paxton/Hultzen conundrum is an odd one. On one hand neither of them screams "I'm an Ace" but on the other they still have reasonably high ceilings both #2's. The way SCEA deals with potential on their default rosters is that the A's are heavily skewed toward guys with a yr or two of exp and through progression they slow down and turn into D's. (Like A-Rod is a D I believe)

By giving them A's I think I can nerf their actual ratings a tad so that they'll progress a bunch over the next two yrs but never be a top 20 pitcher in the game. Because by the time they've fully progressed they're on the other side of the age curve (age 26 or 27) and they're either gonna progress only a bit (2-3 pts a yr) or already be in their decline. (Note: This isn't even factoring in major injuries)

Doing this will keep the CPU from calling them up early in the 2012 season b/c of an injury on the 25-man, so they won't have their service time clock started early in franchise.

Franklin is right on the cusp of being an A prospect. Most believe him to be the shortstop of the future with great pop on his offensive tool.

He's a nice looking player but he's not w/o his flaw(s). Most the reports out there question whether he'll be able to stick at SS. (I've only seen video but he'll be fine) He's a switch hitter but some think he should should stop trying to bat right handed. (I've got no opinion haven't seen enough of his hitting) And he does strike out a bit he's been around 20% so far in the minors.

If you could put up his 2010 numbers (in AA) and cut down on his K's he could be a top 15 prospect, easily.

franklin had two errors in yesterdays spring game.he should be a ''b'' prospect with contact in the 50's and glove in the 50's as well.

Again I'm new at this so bear with me...SCEA I'm guessing stands for Sony Computer Entertainment...so what does OSFM stand for? Is that the Operation Sports Rosters?

I totally agree with what you are saying about Paxton and Hultzen...I do however believe that Hultzen has the ability to be the next Cliff Lee. He has a 4 seamer that is mid 90's with a pretty wicked change up. He's working slowly on his third pitch (curve ball). His ceiling, I believe, should be top 20 arm sometime in his career.

The only other thing I'll throw in is Nick Franklin definitely has his swings of brilliant and lack luster-esque performances. Is there any rating category that allows sort of an all or nothing performance? He's right on the cusp of an A prospect, currently ranked 51st overall in the top 100 and I think the 4th best short stop.

I'm pretty sure the only A's in our system are Hultzen & Walker. Walker is a no doubter, Hultzen less so. But he is ranked above Walker on most organizational prospect rankings, so I think you've got to include him in the A grouping along with Walker. I don't see Paxton as an A at all. A solid B should suit him perfectly.
