The Coaching Legacy of Tyrell Coley (Ch2k8)

Found out over the weekend that while my younger brother was playing CH2k8, the game froze while an attempt to save something completely corrupted all of my Ch2k8 save files. So I have to scrap my current Colgate legacy and try once more. Guess the third time is the charm!

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Tyrell Coley (Ch2k8)

Brooklyn, NY - Long Island University has named Tyrell Coley the new head coach of the men's basketball program. Coley will become the youngest coach currently on the sidelines of the Division I basketball team at 25 years of age, but he does not lack experience. Coley has been coaching the men's basketball team at Division III Hunter College (Manhattan, NY) for the last two seasons, and also spending three seasons before that as an assistant coach at Hunter.

The Virginia Tech alum was grateful for the opportunity. "Division I is the cream of the crop in college basketball and I want to thank Long Island University for giving me the opportunity to take this team to new heights."

The Queens, NY native is known for being a defensive minded coach and will look to implement his play style to the Blackbirds in the upcoming season.

        2007-08 Roster

        Starting Lineup
        PF #32 Kellen Allen - 6'7", 225 - SR - 60
        SF #1 Eugene Kotorbai - 6'5", 210 - RS SR - 65
        SF #2 Ron Manigault - 6'4", 210 - JR - 63
        SG #5 Kyle Johnson - 6'4", 200 - FR - 62
        PG #22 Jaytornah Wisseh - 6'1". 180 - SR - 63

        Bench
        PG #11 Tyrone Mattison - 5'11" 185 - JR - 61
        PF #23 Ike Udanoh - 6'7", 210 - FR - 59
        PF #34 Albert Forbes - 6'5", 240 - RS JR - 57
        PF #15 Paska Morkeliunas - 6'7", 235 - SR - 56
        PF #33 Aurimas Adomaitis - 6'8", 235 - SO - 55

        Transfer
        SG #43 Gerald Carter - 6'4", 185 - JR - 62

        Redshirted
        PG #24 David Hicks - 6'1", 185 - FR - 54
        PG #10 Alan Mozee - 6'0" 175 - FR - 50

Long Island's roster heading into the season is definitely lacking in size with just four players taller than 6-foot-6. The offense is more than likely going to run through Kotorbai, who is the best shooter on the team.

It's going to be a rough season for Long Island.

            ND 41 33 - 74

Luke Harangody welcomes Coach Tyrell Coley to Division I basketball with a 34-point, six rebounds performance for Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish rolled by Long Island 74-54.

Jonathan Peoples added 10 points and four steals for the Irish, who never trailed in the game.

Jaytornah Wisseh led the Blackbirds with 16 points, but had seven turnovers. Surprisingly, Euguene Kotorbai only took four shots and finished with two points and seven rebounds.

Forward Kellen Allen was sidelined in this game, and team doctors have said he is suffering from plantar fascitis. Allen is listed as day-to-day. Losing Allen could be a serious blow to Long Island as they do not carry much size on their roster.

Long Island will take a few days to practice and prepare for Army (0-2).

            Long Island Key Players
            Jaytornah Wisseh - 16 points, 7-11 FG
            Kellen Allen - 10 points, 4 rebounds
            Ron Manigault - 9 points, 5 rebounds

            Notre Dame Key Players

Long Island (0-1) at Army (0-2)
Christl Arena - West Point, NY
              November 16, 2007

              Code:
              LIU 37 36 - 73
              Army 31 36 - 67
Coach Coley reached a milestone with his first career win as a Divison I head coach, as the Long Island Blackbirds defeated Army 73-67 on the road.

"I'm happy to get the first win." Coach Coley said. "The players really executed and played strong, smart team basketball. That's what earned the win tonight."

Euguene Kotorbai had a poor shooting night, connecting on just two of ten shots to finish with eight points and nine rebounds. While Kotorbai struggled, the Blackbirds had four players score in double figures led by 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists from freshman Kyle Johnson. Ike Udanoh added 16 points and five rebounds, and Tyrone Mattison and Kellen Allen added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Jarell Brown led Army with 18 points, and Kenny Brewer added 11 in the loss.

Long Island will have the weekend off before playing again Tuesday at home against Columbia (2-1).

Thanks. I'm going to say it was the sliders that led to the poor showing with Colgate, because Long Island has the same size issues - the bigger guys on the team suck and end up taking space on the floor without doing much on either side of the ball.

Columbia (2-2) at Long Island (1-1)
Athletic, Recreation, and Wellness Center - Brooklyn, NY
                      November 20, 2007

                      Code:
                      Columbia 29 27 - 56
                      Long Island 40 26 - 66
Long Island shoots 50% from the floor and uses a strong first half to defeat the Columbia Lions 66-56 in their 2007-08 home opener. Euguene Kotorbai led the Blackbirds with 14 points (4-7 FG) and seven rebounds. Kellen Allen added 13 points, and Ike Udanoh put up 11 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Despite four scorers in double figures for Columbia - led by John Baumann's 12 points and six rebounds - the Lions were very one-dimensional on the floor as they had just nine assists as a team. Brett Loscalzo, Ben Nwachukwu, and Patrick Foley each added 10 points.

Long Island will remain at home in Brooklyn for their next opponent Saturday vs Canisius (0-2).

                        November 24, 2007

                        Code:
                        Canisius 36 34 - 70
                        Long Island 38 35 - 73
In a back and forth battle, Euguene Kotorbai's go-ahead bucket with 4.3 seconds left helped Long Island escape the Canisius Golden Griffins with a 73-70 victory.

Down by two, Kotorbai ran through a double screen and was found on the baseline wide open to give Long Island the advantage. Canisius' ensuing possession resulted in a blocked layup and two free throws ended the game.

Kotorbai once again led Long Island, recording his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Johnson added 15 points off the bench and Jaytornah Wisseh had 12 points, six assists, and three steals.

Jovan Robinson led Canisius with 12 points, and Pawel Malesa and Willie Hassell each added 10 points in the loss.

Long Island will have a tough task in their next opponent, as they look to extend their win streak on the road against St. John's (2-0) next Wednesday.

                          St. John's 41 32 - 73
In their second game against a school from the Big East Conference, Long Island was flattened, rolled up, and tossed aside as their three game win streak came to a screeching halt with a 73-40 loss to St. John's.

The Blackbirds shot just 26% from the floor and committed 22 turnovers, 12 of which came from starters Jaytornah Wisseh and Ron Manigault. Wisseh led Long Island with nine points, and Euguene Kotorbai shot just 1-of-10 to finish with seven points and nine rebounds.

St. John's was led by Anthony Mason Jr.'s 17 points and six rebounds. Freshman Malik Boothe added 14 points and five assists in a game that was never close. The Red Storm held a double digit advantage from a little of halfway through the first half to the final buzzer.

Long Island will return to Brooklyn to collect themselves from the loss and prepare for Hartford (2-6) on Saturday, December 1st.

                            Long Island 40 30 - 70
Long Island rebounded from the loss to St. John's in a huge way, stepping up on defense and holding Hartford to 11 points in the second half en route to a 70-45 blowout.

Euguene Kotorbai left the game early in the second half after falling down hard on his elbow. Team doctors say he will be ok for the next game, but Coach Coley sat him since the game was in hand. Kotorbai had no points, but recorded seven rebounds in 20 minutes on the floor.

With Kotorbai out, the other Blackbirds stepped up. Ike Udanoh led all scorers with 14 points along with five rebounds. Jaytornah Wisseh added 13 points and seven assists, and off the bench Kyle Johnson (13 points, five rebounds, and five assists) and Tyrone Mattison (11 points) were exceptional.

Joe Zeglinski led Hartford with 13 points, while Warren McLendon added 11 points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

Long Island will begin conference play next Thursday as they travel to Emmitsburg, MD and play Mount St. Mary's (2-3)
