What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?

I've been wondering what makes people like the certains commentators they watch like Smoove and IKC. What do you guys look for in a good commentator? I am curious because I want to improve on my own voice in the commentator niche. I know I need to work on the voice dynamics part, but it's tough to do without forcing it so I am looking forward to all your responses!

Turning off the commentating. That is one of the first things I do for every sports game I get.

I enjoy it...when there's a wealth of information being given. Plus, casual banter. I don't think anybody does it as well as Reggie, Kerr, and Marv

The OP means online commentators like Chris Smoove.

I enjoy someone with an easy to listen to voice, and some unique quirks that make it more interesting. With QJB it's the nicknames and music, with smoove it's the autotunes, etc.

But I use to watch QJB , IPod , etc but eventually I stopped because it got boring watching these guys get triple doubles every game and a total of 55 points... I prefer to watch guys who play realistic and bring out the real life of their 2k player by using games like grand theft auto and that category.
And catchphrases like AAsist (from QJB) are super annoying but beats like smoove's alley-opp beat is pretty cool. Be sure to have a hdpvr or you won't get any views no matter how great your commentary is.
Oh, an important part is also having expression in your voice or else people would turn right away.
And to sum it up - be yourself or your comment feed will all say Chris Smoove wannabe and you ain't smoove baby. Haha

I agree with the guy above me.

Play realistically, it gets boring watching people get triple doubles and 60 every game.

Catchphrases; personally. some are annoying and some are pretty neat. Smoove's splash and KSpades RainMaker are pretty good, just have something original and fun.

Have a good mic, and don't scream into it the whole time

HD-PVR, gotta have that HD gameplay.

Also take time to include things like your player's college career using the 2k12 College Hoops mod. This will bring in hype for your channel.
But I really, really encourage you too include the off-court actions , it's one of the things I really love to watch in 2k commentators videos. People like YGThaBeast do this.

I think you have to be original and have a good voice. Someone I found is itsblackjackmedia brings something new to commentary and he runs an association with the Cavs from a GM's perspective and other things for other games. For me, it's about 45% original, 30% realistic 25% voice.

Thanks for the replies guys! I will try to be a little more natural and loose in commentary. I know we should bring our own style to the mix and being yourself will do it. I am trying to find it but it might take a few more tries to find out what it is.

And to some of you that didn't know I was talking about YouTube video commetaries and not the actual ones in real life. I should have made it more clear! That was my bad on my end. But yeah im talking about the guys like IKC and Smoove, QJB, KSpade and even YMDTV aka Gento

Is there a way to make a monotonous-type voice sound better? Listen to the video I put up just now of my commentary and I'd love tips from you guys! (not at all trying to self promote, just want feedback haha)

I enjoy commentary that has a direction, not just a random game with commentary (granted some people do enjoy that). So when someone puts out a good video with moves or strategies that I may not know, I usually enjoy them.

Yeah, everyone has their own likes and dislikes of commentaries and I just wanna know what the overall audience likes so I can get a feel of what I can try.

A good commentator i think, should be current. So part of 2k patches, they could update the commentary with recent happenings in real life etc! Trade talk, and transactions! (not talk about someone who you or has been traded away)

Chris Smoove is a boss but i hate QJB with a passion. He's using lame *** catchphrases "AAsist" and he's bragging al the time. He is basically just a cheeser in terms of gameplay..
