Blue Jays Survive Oakland Comeback, Win Second Straight

Jose Bautista threw out the tying run at the plate.

TORONTO, ON -- The Oakland Athletics were oh so close to tying the game up in the bottom of the ninth inning, but a great throw from Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista took away all hope.

Trailing by one in the ninth inning with two outs and runners at first and second, a base hit by Coco Crisp left the Athletics with a decision to make: send the runner or not.

The Athletics elected to send the runner towards the plate, testing Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista's arm.

It was the wrong choice.

Bautista unleashed a rocket to the plate, where catcher Dioner Navarro put the tag down to end the game.

Melky Cabrera homered twice to go along with homers from Dioner Navarro and Brett Lawrie, who also swiped his 11th bag of the season.

Cabrera's two solo shots in the fifth and seventh innings were too much for the Athletics, whose loss saw their record drop to 19-29, tied for last in the American League West with the Houston Astros.

The Athletics will get a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow afternoon, when Dan Straily takes the mound against Brandon Morrow. First pitch can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet at 1:07 PM ET.
