Anibal Sanchez not sharp as Tigers drop another close game to the Tribe 6-4 at Comerica.

Game #13

Detroit, MI. April 16, 2014 --- Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez was not very good today. Sanchez allowed 10 hits in 6 innings, giving up 6 runs while only striking out 3. His record now sits at 2-1 on the year.

Opposing him was Tribe starter Josh Tomlin who went 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits wasn't great either but his team gave him just enough at the plate. Tomlin is now 2-0 on the young year.

Leading the way for the Indians was newly converted 3B Carlos Santana. Santana was 3-4 with a homer against the Tigers and 4 RBI. His average now sits at .426 on the year (20-47).

SS Asdrubal Cabrera again had a good game against the Tigers going 2-4 at the dish, he also scored 2 runs. DH Lonnie Chisenhall was also 2-4 on the day.

The Indians had 12 hits, every Indian safely reaching base except for 1B Nick Swisher who was a healthy 0-5 with 2 strikeouts.

The Tigers sat OF Torii Hunter hoping a day off may help him get his head back into the game. In his place RF Andy Dirks was 2-4 on the day. CF Austin Jackson was also 2-4 with 2 stolen bases. That gives Jackson now 6 so far this year.

The Tigers 2-3-4 hitters of 2B Ian Kinsler, 1B Miguel Cabrera and DH Victor Martinez combined were 1-11.

The Indians bullpen (Scott Atchison, Bryan Shaw, John Axford) was very good again Wednesday against the Tigers as they pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs and only 1 hit. Axford picked up his 2nd consecutive save against the Tigers and 5th of the year.

With this loss the Tigers now sit a game behind the Indians in the AL Central standings. The Indians are 8-7, followed by the Tigers (6-7), Royals (6-8), White Sox (5-10) and Twins (4-10). The Tigers are 5-5 in their last ten games.

The final game of this three game series see Drew Smyly (1-1 0.71) versus Justin Masterson (1-2 9.64) at 1:08 p.m. Thursday.
