The NHL seems to be the one league where if you have a hot streak you can almost guarantee a ridiculous big money contract.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Hate to lose Teuvo but there was a good chance the Hawks were losing one of him or Panarin next offseason and Panarin is definitely the more valuable piece.
Good move for the Hurricanes, one year of Bickell is a small price to pay for a talent like Teravainen.
*Edit - I'll add, I hope they don't overpay Shaw as a result of this but I have a feeling they will. Definitely shouldn't get more than 3 mil per and even that is going to be a tight squeeze with the cap.Favorite Teams:

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Hurricanes have a done a good job acquiring talent the past two seasons. If they could get a goalie and a top 6 forward, they could be a playoff team.
EDIT: I spoke too soon, they brought back Cam Ward. Bleh.Last edited by rdnk; 06-16-2016, 07:10 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Reminds me of when the Braves included Kimbrel to get rid of that garbage loser BJ Upton.
Obviously Teravainen isn't on "Kimbrel"-level hockey-wise but still. Tough to give that piece just to rid yourself of trash.Comment

I cannot believe we live in a world where Andrew "The Weasel" Shaw is a $3M/year player.Comment

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
I really think we could/should see a deal where Oilers get 7,20 while Coyotes get 4 & others.
Oilers need D badly. No dman projected top 5. Trade down to 7, get top D prospect, and 20 could get someone who might have slipped. Coyotes on other hand get Tkachuk. Son of their first ever captain, and obviously a top prospect in the draft. Next to Matthews, Tkachuk would be next best fit with that team and especially fanbase IMO.
Oilers fix D issue, Coyotes add to young F core(Domi,Strome,Dvorak) who'll take over after the Doan era ends, which could be real soon(which also contains lots of forwards 30+ right now)Last edited by Majingir; 06-16-2016, 11:19 AM.Comment

Kings name Kopitar captain. I think that's a much better choice than the previous one.

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Calgary has reportedly inquired about Marc-Andre Fleury. Cost controlled at 5.75(?) mil for 3 yrs remaining.Haven't glanced at Calgary's draft slot or roster yet. Considering Pens have 2UFA (C Matt Cullen and D Ben Lovejoy), what can Calgary offer as compensation for Pens needs? I think it will be picks and prospects packaged for MAF's salary.Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Yeah I think its a steep price for a team that is so strapped by the cap but seems hes looking for 3-4 mil this offseason, definitely can't see the Hawks going to 4 but won't be surprised if they give him 3.Favorite Teams:

(Quenvilles words)
I'm just not a fan of players like Shaw. He has some talent, but his 'value' is playing like a Rat.
I could see him quickly turning into the next Carcillo, Avery, Torres, Cooke... where he'll make more headlines for dangerous, illegal hits than for helping his team.
I hope for the Hawks sake they don't come to regret letting a talented hockey player like Teravainen walk so they can pay a player who will be addressed by the DoPS on a weekly basis.Comment

Sounds like Carolina wanted either Teravainen or Shaw and the Hawks feel Shaw is irreplaceable.

Is it too hard for some to embrace the speed game as better, more productive hockey?Quennville and Hitchcock certainly don't.
Just reading your comments, you seem frustrated by his style, but willing to watch 'beat em in an alley' hockey for a win. Not shade, just curious, since it's pretty obvious the aforementioned coaches may not even be popular within the fan base, despite their postseason runs.Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!
