Really hoping the Rangers don't have to get rid of Stepan or Brassard to help alleviate the salary issues they have due to the terrible Girardi and Staal contracts. Looks like Rick Nash might have to go though, which would also be pretty terrible. For as much criticism Nash gets, he's been pretty important for the team. One trade that's been rumored is Nash for Cam Fowler and some other stuff.

Losing Yandle is a big deal though. It's going to be interesting to see what these guys do to get around this issue.

If the Fowler deal is not just rumor, it's possible he could replace Staal or Girardi on blue line, or else that's huge money on the blue line, all D currently under contract, and if they take on all of Fowler's salary.

Yes, it's slightly over half of Nash's, but doesn't leave much $ for forwards on team. Unless they are going young, see names like Gropp, Tambellini, but not aware of their pedigrees.
Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!
Feel shame. Then be set free.

They have a new building coming, and have to make a splash. I think my opinion is clouded by the fact that Tampa Bay just got to Game 7 of the East Final without any contribution from him whatsoever, but I don't view Stamkos as a franchise-defining 10 million per/year type of player. A star scorer and a top line player, absolutely, but not the type of all-world guy you give that type of contract to. Especially considering his health history.
Agreed. I think this has more to do with filling seats in the new Little Ceasers rink.
From what I've read, the two prospects that the Wings are willing to give up are Pulkannen and Jurco.
I could live with that. It seems the Wings brass isn't very happy with Pulkannen's 100-foot game. Dude can score though.
If they had to give up Double-A, I'd be very upset as well. I really like what he has to offer.

I read somewhere that Datsyuk divorced last year or something like that and that his ex-wife took his children to Russia. He wants to spend as much time as he can with them, so he went back to Russia.
Datsyuk's first marriage ended in divorce in 2010, but not before they had a daughter together.
I believe she moved back to Russia with her shortly after the split.
          Datsyuk remarried in 2012.

It sounds like Pavel's been contemplating returning to Russia for some time now to be closer to his daughter.
I know many Wings fans are mad that he didn't fulfill his last contract, but I don't begrudge him for skipping town a year early.
He's a dad first and hockey player second.

It's official the Black Knights are coming to the league. Expansion draft is on June 20th, 2017. And results coming out the next day.

                  I am surprised.

I never equate hockey with Vegas.

Las Vegas Black Jacks would have been more appropriate. Black Knights? What are they gonna do? Never lose?

Count me shocked that this actually came to fruition. I bet Vegas is gonna be a popular free agency landing spot, though...

Depends on the state taxes. Anyone know if they're higher or lower than usual for athletes?

I hope we DON'T have results leaked before the date they're revealed. Hopefully we get to see the draft itself on TV.

We aren't going to see it on TV. And there's a 95% chance that the results get leaked early. From the NHL.com article: Teams have to submit their protection lists by 5 p.m. ET on June 17, 2017. Las Vegas has to submit its selections for the expansion draft by 5 p.m. ET on June 20. The results of the expansion draft will be released publicly on June 21.

So the team has 3 days to choose who they want. Then the results will come out the 21st.

Vegas during hockey season is gonna be a hell of a vacation and I'm excited for that, but I don't understand why Bettman does everything humanly possible to keep teams out of Canada. It's as close to a guaranteed success that you could have.
