I'm guessing if you're filthy rich and Russian-born, life in St. Petersburg is probably pretty good. If Datsyuk were leaving Detroit to play in Omsk or Magnitogorsk, then yeah, I'd raise an eyebrow.

I'm wondering if he's doing this to simply make his daughter less of a target, not that she would be if he played in the States, but it's crazy over there, and she's a teenager now. Just seems like, not a hockey move, obviously, but a preventative one. Maybe overreacting, but just hope it's nothing other than a hockey decision.

From the little I have heard about him, this move does seem out of character for him, even if he is winding down, and Detroit is not quite the team they were a few years ago.
Eh, stupid, just some English pig with no brains!!!

If it's about family, he can bring them here. I'm sorry, I don't care what the reason is. There is zero reason to willingly choose to live in Russia instead of America.

I don't think Teuvo is anything special.

Trading away Bickell's contract just means Bowman will overpay for Shaw anyways, will probably get 4M AAV.

I still think he'll be a good player but I'm not sure he'll ever live up to the hype he had when he first entered the league. As far as Shaw I really hope they don't go above 3M but wouldn't be shocked if you end up being right.

It seems that Kane and Toews lines would account for majority of ice time, with Kruger line on for D zone faceoffs (when not Toews line?) and penalty kill, along w/ 4th line.

I mean, essentially Chicago is essentially a 2 to 2 1\2 line team when playing 5 on 5. Kruger and 4th line won't see much 5 on 5 time(?), or at least not nearly as much as Toews line. Unless I'm wrong, and Chicago does roll 4 lines, in short, quick shifts. Doesn't seem likely, based on how I interpret your breakdown of the lines.

I'm not saying Chicago uses 6 forwards, but the top six are the obvious point producers, per Kane and Panarin production. So I would guess their ice time is higher, and allows for more chances to score. Pretty standard distribution.

I would attack them, much like Pens did SJ, roll 4 lines constantly, until Kane and Toews can't double shift anymore, and exploit the bottom 2 lines, by fatiguing top 2 lines. Assuming pace of play isn't too chopped up w/ stoppages and faceoffs, then matchups factor in. Pens were maybe the best conditioned and fastest team, based on the roll 4 mentality. That was biggest surprise to me, that SJ just didn't have foot speed to control puck or pace, save for Gm5. And even then, Jones had to make over 40 saves, so how much did they really control? So it's interesting to see how the styles, even a hybrid one like SJ(?), can be exploited by flat out speed.

Maybe you can explain this to me, and many Pens fans. Was there an issue with Trevor Daley off the ice, or in the room, that put him in the press box until the trade? Of all the moves made this season, no one here can understand why Daley was so undervalued there, since Scuds was really a shell of himself, unless it was a contract trade. But it was a lynchpin deal to fortify the Pens top D pair.

Appreciate your patience, and the breakdown.
Daley is clearly a better player, but it did free up some money and also he wasn't a fit for Q's style and Q wasn't playing him. Definitely worked out in the Pens favor but like you said he wasn't playing in Chicago and I heard rumors he wasn't happy about that, given that and the $ I'd assume Bowman took the opportunity to open some cap and get an unhappy player out of the locker room.

As far as the lines they were rolling 4 lines in the playoffs they just went cold offensively at a bad time and couldn't do enough to get by the Blues, not to mention #4 dman killed them (Daley wouldn't have helped given Q wouldn't play him).

That was the perception here, simply wasn't a fit for Q... I'm assuming he prefers a bigger player on blue line, and the puck moving and skating at that position is less of a priority against... size and ability to clear the crease(?). Pit D was fortunate their ability to move puck quickly was eventually able to deter/peel off opponents' forecheck, saving a beating (save for Ryan Callahan's heel into Daley's ankle along the boards), and clearing the crease was essentially a stick check or tie up.

Scott Burnside was on local radio show today, and said he spoke w/ an 'un-named' scout at the Final, and was told that after what Pens did to Western Conference team as far as pace of play, and controlling tempo, there was strong feeling they may be a template for building a winning style of play.

He may have been pandering, but even he knows San Jose was chasing the play all series. Jones was a huge X-Factor in keeping that series close.

Not bragging, but asking a fan who watches a heavier style of hockey, and watched it succeed ('Hawks), what did San Jose have over everyone in the West? Yes,PP was deadly, Jones showed his salt, but I watched them against Nash and StL, and saw more flaws in those teams, than advantages in Sharks. But I don't see much West hockey in regular season, so that will detract from my view.

I will say, StL had breakout plays you could diagram and execute on a bubble hockey table, so they have a slower team, I feel, overall. Pietrangeo(sp?) and Taraseknov aside. Not a crack at Chicago, that was a tough way to go out (Brower). Would have been better Conference Final, IMO w/ Chi/SJ.

I don't blame Pavel for moving in order to be closer to his daughter.
                        I'd do the same.
He's made his money and the Wings aren't contenders. No reason to stick around.

I have Russian relatives that say if you're wealthy, you can live a very, very good life in major cities of the country.
It's not all that different from being rich here.

Haha, that. There'd be no reason to come back to my state if I had become famous. But I still would because it was home.

I think between the state of the Red Wings, his age, and his family, it all came together. Before his skills decline and he becomes a contract. Good for him for going out on his own terms. Also, DET can kind of move on and focus on the younger players without having to appease a possibly faded star.
