Just sucks knowing Toronto could easily support 2 teams, and we see 2 teams in LA,Chicago,NY in other sports, but Toronto in hockey can't get that. Sure, 2nd team will be the Mets,Clippers,White Sox,Islanders(compared to Yankees,Lakers,Cubs,Rangers) of the city, but they'll still have huge following, and obvious 24/7 media coverage.

It's one thing trying to expand their reach, but when milking your already existing major market even more is a bigger money maker, why not consider it?
I hate how MLSE has that much control. I would hope that if they are really the ones preventing a 2nd Toronto team, that something could be done.
Perhaps Rogers will have a say considering they just spend $5B+ on the new TV contract.
I'm sure they'd love the extra viewers a 2nd Toronto team would bring in.

You would think the sky is gonna fall the way the Canadian media has been covering the Las Vegas expansion team. The prevailing wisdom is that it's going to be a struggle to make that team viable at the very least and some are even saying it's going to be a huge flop. These concerns are truly valid but I don't think you'd see this much negativity in any other sports league if they added a new expansion team.

Yeah, those people need to understand its Canada's game, but the NHL is America's league. But questioning the NHL's method is certainly fair game. They've demonstrated they suck at trying to expand in to different markets.

I actually think the new Las Vegas franchise will do decent, basically won't be the flop some other expansions have proven to be. But LV won't be the hotbed a place like Seattle has the potential to be. Seems like they expanded to do it, but the return on investment will be middling at best.

Guess we won't know for some time. LV is unexplored, so hey there's a chance.

Hockey fans in general are a very weird bunch.
I've never seen a fanbase so desperate to be popular but at the same time want to have their Precious all to themselves.
It's like those people that fall in love with a band before they broke out, and then hate all new fans, or even the band itself when it becomes a huge success.

I feel like the Habs are actually trying to move Subban. Please send him to EDM. First and Hall/Draisaitl should do it.

            As referenced by this tweet.

            George Laraque
Someone around the Oilers organization just confirmed to me that the Canadiens asked for the 4 pick and Draisaitl for Subban.

What possible reason could the Canadiens have for actively wanting to trade Subban?

I have absolutely no idea but they are doing it. He built a new $10 million hospital and supposedly didn't invite the team or something. Could be that, a la Patrick Roy getting traded. But I honestly got no idea.

Why wouldn't they televise the expansion draft? Crippling fear of money?

If Subban is available, Wings had better at least make a call. Habs can have anything/everything except Mrazek and Larkin. That would be the splash the Wings are looking for, and you could market the crap out of Subban in Detroit.

I'm sure if the Canadiens move Subban to Edmonton, one of the biggest perks would be getting such a high draft pick. I agree in giving up anyone not named Larkin or Mrazek, but the Canadiens would want an enormous package from the Red Wings, something to the effect of Nyquist/Pulkkinen/Mantha/1st rounder. That's probably a bit too steep. Plus I'm sure the Canadiens would very much prefer to send him far away to a place like Edmonton than to Detroit.

But again, I don't understand why they appear to want to move him. These types of rumors don't typically come up multiple years in a row like this unless there's something to them. Why?

I honestly think it's that hospital thing, they are petty like that. And yea they are asking for #4 + Draisaitl the #3 pick a couple years ago if you believe that. And if they move it's not going to be in the conference, nevermind the division. I would love him on the Bruins but you're talking something around Rask, Krejci, our 2 firsts this year and something else. (Division rival). Also don't be surprised to see Cam Fowler on the move. Craig Custance said we could be seeing movement on him in the next day or 2.

Not surprised to hear the Ducks might move Fowler. Vatanen is locked up and Lindholm will be next. With the Red Wings' apparent fetish for (state of) Michigan-related players, I'd expect them to be very interested in Fowler.

                            It's draft day!

20 years(and 1 day) after the birth of "Austin 3:16", we'll get to see the birth of "Auston 3:16"!

Also Psy another reason that Dreger and Ryan Rishaug brought up was PK's contract. He's got something like 4 years left and a 9 million cap hit. And they want cap flexibility. They need to pay guys like Price.

If the Canadiens move Subban they deserve to languish in the basement of the NHL for a long, long time.
I wouldn't be shocked if the reason they want to get rid of him had to do with his flashy style, or his shoot from the hip comments.
It's hockey. Doesn't he know you're not supposed to have a personality!?
Be more like Mr.Roboto, aka Jonathan Toews!

If it's true that the Habs are asking for Draisaitl and their 4th, then I think the Oilers have to take it.
If there were a way EDM could convince them to take RNH instead, even better.

Psyblast, if it were to take a combo of Nyquist/Pulkkinen/Mantha/1st rounder for Subban, I'll be honest, I'd take it.
Who knows if Mantha will develop and I think the Wings have soured on Pulkkinen. Nyquist should be a 30 goal scorer in this league so he'd missed.
But I wonder if Jurco would be able to step-up in his absence?

The idea of adding a dman like Subban is intoxicating. I know he makes mistakes now and then, but IMO his good far outweighs his bad.
He is a very dynamic player who can change games on his own.
