Why do people say the 2K camera makes the game look bad?

I've always played the game with either 2K or High camera, because I have a hard time judging distance in real life, and that angle lets me see the passing angles much more easily than a broadcast cam.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad broadcast cameras exist--the more options, the better.

I'm just wondering why I keep seeing in threads that the default 2K cam makes the game look worse. I don't see it.

2k cam doesn't look like a broadcast nor does it represent how basket ball look in real life. It encourages people to stand at the top and spam dribble moves as well as the camera turn breaks immersion.

Ever seen a real game shot from behind. Probably not, because it looks kind of ridiculous.

I like 2K and I like broadcast, I switch between them a lot. I think what turns off a lot of people is the rotation of the camera after possessions.

It is just personal preference. I can only play on 2k camera; hate the broadcast camera. I have friends that are the opposite; hate 2k, can only play on broadcast lol.

It is also 10 times easier to play basketball and perform things like fastbreaks and get proper spacing.

I despise broadcast camera. It may not look like an actual game, but I don't think there is a single sports game where I've ever played in the broadcast camera. Madden's behind, baseball is behind batter for offense, NHL up and down etc.

2k camera makes me nauseous, gives me migraines and insomnia. But on a serious note, it simply doesn't look broadcast. But it does make me uneasy watching any gameplay footage from that angle though.

It's also not about the camera rotation, it's just the angle. Even if the camera never rotates, the angle is not a reflection of TV broadcast and it's extremely hard to digest. TNT.com on demand online has their own TNT unique camera angles, one of which resembles 2k cam. An internet search says it all about how people hate TNT's offerings. Flip on the ESPN, TNT, and all broadcast games are in broadcast camera view, never a 2k cam. We're accustomed to traditional broadcast angles. It's more pleasant.

In a game of pickup basketball, I'm moving my butt to "broadcast camera" view, can't stand behind the basket and enjoy the game.

Agree: "2k cam doesn't look like a broadcast"
Disagree: "Doesn't represent how basketball look in real life". It's still basketball regardless of the camera angle. I personally just hate the angle.

I've always found this to be an odd argument. You're not simulating what a game looks like on TV. You're simulating PLAYING in the NBA. Players don't see things from broadcast anymore than they do from 2k.

              Weird.

Anyway. I like 2k and mostly play in that or Beluba. As a Gamer (not just sports, in fact 2k is the only sports game I play) 3rd person over the shoulder sort of 2kish makes more sense and I'm more familiar with that.

I don't like broadcast because of the angle and because it's trying to look like TV... I'm not watching TV. I'm in control. And it's a game. It can never look as good as it does on TV. So to me it just looks terrible in broadcast.

2k also better represents how you see the floor as a player, more so than any other angle (aside from Turbo maybe). When you play basketball you don't exactly see everything through a television camera lense.

How basketball looks like irl is about perspective. Some of us play the game irl so we like the angle that's closest to that experience. What I wanna know is when are we gonna see first person camera / VR lol.

I've always wondered why the 2K cam doesn't implement what Madden does and actually pause the gameplay when possession changes.

I can't stand 2k cam, but I also find Broadcast cam unplayable (too hard to judge spacing and iso moves, makes all of the wonky player movement/animations stand out like a sore thumb because everything else looks so realistic).

Drive cam with camera zoom at 1 and no key zoom is the absolute best experience IMO.

                      I've been using 2k since NBA2k in 1999.

Almost every year I try broadcast but I end up switching back to 2k because I can't get past not being able to see down court when fast breaking.

Also, I almost exclusively play ProAm and MyPark (MyCareer) and I am always the PG of our crew so I need that vision.

Just curious, anybody run point for their ProAm team in Broadcast? If so, do you not have issues on the break?

One year I did cozy up to the Turbo camera for single player MyCareer games. That was pretty cool.

My point about the "real life" is that if it doesn't represent a broadcast "or" real life then what's the point. The broadcast view at least represents one of those perspective 2k cam doesn't do either.

OS is full of snooty video game segregationists. Ha. 2k is the cheese camera in many players' mind, because it is easier to run and gun and do dribble moves on 2k. Any camera is fine. Dont let these pre internet mindset affect you. All cameras are for everyone.

Interesting, I've been playing since 2K2 and I don't think I've tried that before. Might have to check it out. I switch back and forth between brodcast and 2k cam. Although, I started using the Beluba cam whenever that was introduced.

I have been playing NBA 2K since NBA 2K lol. I have always played on broadcast. NBA 2K had a cinematic camera that was super hard to use but I got use to it. The last time I played on 2K camera was NBA 2K. I would play the cinematic cam at home but my friends liked the 2K camera. I have used broadcast ever since the beginning. I can't see anything with the 2K camera. Court vision is the best on broadcast, in my opinion. I can see the entire court with broadcast plus that's how you see games on TV, not on the 2K cam. I never liked the 2K cam and it makes me dizzy when I watch these videos on YouTube. I am happy I can choose camera angles on Play Now Online because that was my main concern.
