    The Gold Standard

The San Francisco 49ers are cranking up a full-blown reboot of the organization, announcing that Chip Kelly has been fired. Niners president Jed York announced the move on Sunday evening in a lengthy statement.

I have informed Chip of my decision to pursue new leadership for our football team," said York. "These types of conversations are never easy, especially when they involve people you respect personally and professionally.

"Chip has my gratitude for the job he did this year, navigating the team through some adverse circumstances. I look forward to watching his career continue to unfold, and wish him and Jill great success in life.

"Despite my feelings for Chip, I felt the decision to change our football leadership was absolutely necessary. The performance of this team has not lived up to my expectations or those of our fans, and that is truly disappointing. We all expected to see this team progress and develop as the season went on, but unfortunately, that did not happen. That is why now is the time to find a new direction for this team."
The problem is the roster isn't in good shape. When Harbaugh was there, the 49ers were a loaded franchise, featuring enough talent to trade away Alex Smith and start Colin Kaepernick. Early retirements, free agency and general roster attrition, along with a failure to make good draft picks, has left the 49ers' cupboard bare.

It's probably unfair to Kelly to pin it on him, but he took a job with a bad team and an impatient fan base playing in a brand new stadium that was being shepherded by a GM on the hot seat. Hiring a GM and forcing him to work with Kelly is a dangerous situation, and it would have limited the quality of the interested candidates.

    Report courtesy of CBS Sports.

The San Francisco 49ers won their first three of five Super Bowls under legendary Head Coach Bill Walsh. His replacement, George Seifert, won his first Super Bowl the very next year and would another in 1994.

The 49ers have desperately missed this era of dominance, coming as close as another Super Bowl berth under Jim Harbaugh. However, Coach Harbaugh has come and gone and the team has fallen back to mediocrity.

In from stage left; Head Coach Charles Hastings from Wisconsin University.

In his very first head coaching gig, the former Badgers offensive coordinator takes his talents to the big show - spurning other coaching gigs at Texas, Illinois, and UNC.

Hastings has used a pro-style offense that pushed Wisconsin to having one of the most efficient and productive pass and run games in the country. The 49ers, after being a model of the failed offensive scheme of Chip Kelly, hope Hastings may ben able to turn this sinking ship around.

                  Week One Preview

There is no more preparing to be made. Both teams have finalized their rosters and are ready to field their franchises. The first "Monday Night Football" of the 2016 features the rookie Head Coach Charles Hastings-led San Francisco 49ers against the newly relocated and rebranded Los Angeles Rams - featuring first overall draft selection Jared Goff from the University of California.

The Rams feature a double-headed monster in the backfield with the likes of reigning Offensive Player of the Year Todd Gurley II and former Auburn phenom Tre Mason. The goal for the Rams this season is to find a healthy medium to allow both of their youthful backs to prosper.

The passing game features the versatile Tavon Austin, finally looking to breakout and have a similar success as he did when he was at West Virgnia. Lance Kendricks will look to play up to the standard of his predecessor Jared Cook, who left for greener pastures out in Green Bay.

On defense, the Rams will sorely miss the contributions in their secondary of one Janoris Jenkins, who left for Broadway in the form of the New York Giants. Look for the Rams' pass rush of Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn to put some pressure on Blaine Gabbert.

                    Defense Stands Tall
49ers' defense force QB Jared Goff out of game, dominate Rams' O-Line.
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- The San Francisco 49ers gave the newly-minted Los Angeles Rams a warm welcome to the state of California 37-24 romping that saw their first overall draft selection, quarterback Jared Goff leave the game before the end of the first half. Backup Case Keenum did not fair much better.

Cornerback Tramaine Brock introduced Goff to the NFL early on, intercepting his first pass attempt. 49ers' quarterback Blaine Gabbert did not fair much better, but did manage to throw a slant pass to wide receiver Torrey Smith, who would run for about 80 yards for the touchdown.

Rams halfback Todd Gurley II would need to be replaced by Tre Mason early on as well, as he also left the game early on with an injury. 49ers' defensive players Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, and NaVorro Bowman brought the heat all night - racking up numerous defensive pressures and knockdowns along the way.

"We brought the heat," commented Head Coach Charles Hastings, racking up his first career win during the match. "There is some tweaking to be done and we have adjustments to make on both sides of the ball, but the passion is there; the will to work is there."

                              WEEK TWO PREVIEW

The San Francisco 49ers will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the defending Super Bowl Finalists Carolina Panthers and their reigning league's Most Valuable Player quarterback Cam Newton.

This time around, Newton will have one of his top weapons back in wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who they sorely missed in their shortcoming at the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. He will join solid tight end Greg Olsen as Newton's top targets.

The 49ers will need to play mistake-free football, and that will fall on the shoulders of quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The 49ers will have their hands full with a pass rush that consists of Charles Johnson, Charles Davis Sr, and superstar linebacker Luke Kuechly.
