Computer is acting up, no updates till I figure it out. I've played a few games, I'll probably get 3-4 more done tmr. Soon as my computer is up and running I'll have a bunch of games up.

52-44 OT WIN FOR SWARM IN FIRST EVER MAC GAME

Under pressure, Williams throws to Jamarcus Brink for a 42 yard TD (LEFT). Ronald Hollis catches a perfect pass over the middle. The play resulted in a 74 yard TD. (RIGHT)

Williams with 6 total scores, 400+ all purpose yards -- Hollis stars with 166 yards, 2 scores -- Offensive line struggling

Buffalo, NY -- Westlake State played their first ever MAC game this week, and had a great debut, beating the struggling Buffalo Bulls 52-44 in OT, their 3rd OT win of the year.

The game was a battle the whole way, with Buffalo storming out to a 17-3 lead in the first half, before going into the half up 17-10 after Joey Williams was able to lead a scoring drive for the Swarm. The Swarm would get the ball to start the second half, and Williams would waste no time getting them down the field and capping it off with a 33 yard TD pass to Ronald Hollis.

Buffalo struck back, with 3rd string tailback Tyler Dixon scoring from the goal line after a long drive, but just 30 seconds later, Williams and Hollis would connect again, this time for a 74 yard score, tying the game at 24 with a quarter to go. The Swarm controlled the 4th, scoring 10 straight points after a Buffalo field goal, but with a minute to go, Tyree Jackson found his tight end Kenny Rogers in the back of the end zone, knotting it up at 34. Westlake State couldn't score, so we were headed to OT.

Buffalo sent out their defense, but there was no trouble for the Swarm, as Joey Williams got them to the 1 in 2 plays, then ran it in himself. Buffalo would strike back, targeting backup safety James Robinson, who was replacing injured Leigh McDowell. (mild concussion, 1-2 weeks) Robinson couldn't get to the pass, and the Bulls had tied it up. After the teams swapped field goals, Williams would run in another score, this time from 11 yards out.

Buffalo needed a TD, and on 3rd and 6 from the Swarm 8, Jackson was hit by end Sharif Saleem and lost the football. Game over.

Westlake State will return home to play 2-4(1-2) Eastern Michigan next week.

Saleem forces the game ending fumble

      Positive:

Williams is a stud. Simple. Team is in good hands.

Question Mark: Swarm line is pretty bad. Charles Payne gives up a ton of pressure. He's still playing soft, like he's scared of these d-linemen. Williams was sacked 5 times, and Shakif Seymour and Brett Wright had nowhere to run. Wright had a 29 yard gain on an option play, but aside from that, he had like 10 yards on 4 carries.

ANOTHER COMEBACK WIN, AS SWARM SCORE 20 UNANSWERED POINTS TO TOPPLE EMU 30-24

Shakif Seymour shows dual threat ability with over 180 all-purpose yards -- EMU score 24 points on 23 plays in the first half -- Swarm defense blanks EMU in second half

Westlake, OH -- Westlake State's inaugural season in the MAC is looking to be a good one, as the Swarm beat now 2-5(1-1) Eastern Michigan in a 30-24 comeback win to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

The first quarter was largely uneventful, with the only points coming on a 27 yard field goal from the Eagles. The Swarm retaliated with their own field goal 27 seconds into the 2nd, and that seemed to light a fire under the EMU offense. Signal-caller Isaac Stiebling got it started, leading his team downfield and ending the drive with a 32 yard TD run. Westlake State went 3 and out, and EMU needed just 38 seconds to go 68 yards, with tailback Breck Turner capping off the drive.

After a 44 yard Joey Williams rushing score, and Stiebling completed a pass to wideout Lemar Harris for a 40 yard score, putting his team up 24-10. Kirby Odom would kick a short field goal to end the half, with EMU up 24-13.

The 3rd quarter was all defense. The Swarm ate up clock on both their drives, and EMU couldn't get anything going, only getting one possession in the quarter. Ronald Hollis caught a fade route in the endzone for the only points of the quarter on either side.

The Swarm were down 24-20 at this point, and after EMU went 3 and out, another methodical drive ended in a 25 yard TD off a screen pass from Shakif Seymour, who had his best game of the season, rushing 16 times for 95 yards and adding 9 catches, 94 yards and the aforementioned score through the air.

The teams exchanged punts, and down by 4, the Eagles had a chance to end the comeback. But receiver Eddie Daugherty, who had been shut down all day by Swarm corner Michael Freeman, dropped the ball on 3rd and 16. On 4th down, Stiebling had nowhere to go and was sacked by Sharif Saleem, ending the game. The Swarm ran some time off the clock, then kicked a short field goal to seal it.

Westlake State go to DeKalb next week to play 4-2 (1-1) NIU.

Positive: Shakif Seymour can go when he's given the chance. 180+ total yards, TD. He can play, and has a full 2 years left here.

Question Mark: This defense is very inconsistent. They don't play well together a lot of the time, and the only 2 guys who really seem like they're always doing their job are Michael Freeman and Leigh McDowell. The front 7 always seems to leave one gaping hole for a guy to run through.

Note: went back to edit stats but they vanished when I reloaded page. Also forgot pictures from this game, sorry

Man oh man I hate being in shootouts every week like you seem to be. You've been grinding out some wins en route to a great start and your offense (Williams, Seymour) has been so unbelievably good.. but you and I both know it's so hard to rely on big stats every week. I hope you figure something out on defense soon.

Williams is ridiculous. I think if we can put the pieces around him to have a 12 or 13 win year in the MAC, he could win a Heisman. Plays better than his ratings. Seymour, if he had a good line would be crazy too. He's still been really good.

I thought our run D would be good, but it's been horrible. Big play after big play It gets way worse against NIU. Wayyy worse. You'll see when I post it. But yeah, we can't rely on our offense to put up 40 every week. We really should have already lost 3, CSU (I think it would've been a gamewinner) and UConn missed chip shots that cost them the game. The UConn one was something else, dude shanked a 23 yarder from straight on, basically a PAT.

What I'm really concerned about is the line. They're so bad. Williams, who has 89 speed, is getting sacked 4-5 times a game. If it was still Chandler back there? Say goodbye. David Carr type ****. (that is the dude who got sacked like 80 times right? might have been Tim Couch I thought of)

            Thanks for checking in.

Re: #SWARM: A Westlake State Dynasty

I'm back in school tomorrow. I'm gonna play 1 or 2 more games tonight, get the recaps out within a few days, but after that I don't know how much I'll be able to play. What it'll probably be is 1-2 games a week. If it's slow like that, I'll probably be able to start doing previews and stuff in between. I don't know my basketball schedule yet though.

Season 3 should be done by mid September at the very latest.

Looks like Williams if he cant get it done through the air will just use his legs to make up for the bad plays. Really hope he can stay injury free for the year as could be a pretty great season if he can!

He's so fast. He has 89 speed, 80 accel, but he plays like he has 95 accel. Bursts past guys easily. Powerful too. Reminds me of college Cam so much.

Westlake State Swarm Football Staff Communications

                    From: Head Scout Zach Favors

                    To: Head Coach Davonnie Banks

                    Cc: Recruiting

Great game against EMU. Comeback wins are always sweet. I've been scouting in Florida, trying to maintain our pipeline there, and I've found 3 guys I think can really help us, plus a guy from Mississippi who really likes us.

First up, 3* ATH Gregory Black. JUCO JR from Homestead. He's 5'11, 199. Definitely a corner. Pretty fast, great burst. Shutdown man corner who's strong enough to press you. He's verbally committed to us, and will pair nicely with Michael Freeman.

Next is 3* ATH Chance Skinner. He's probably the most interesting prospect I've found. Huge potential. Plays wideout and running back for Jacksonville Tech. Good size at 6'0, 191. Runs a 4.34 and runs possibly the best routes of any HS kid in the nation. What's the problem? He can't catch. At all. He drops 2 or 3 surefire scores every game. Great with the ball in his hands, makes tough grabs in traffic, but just drops a ton of open ones. He's another verbal commit. If he catches the ball, he'll go to the NFL for sure. If not, he'll have to try to transition to tailback.

4* corner Al Moore is choosing between us and Utah. He's 5'11, 194. Although he's listed at corner, I think he's a much better FS. He's not very fast, and lacks short area quickness. Not all that fluid. Strong though, and with good all round coverage skills, he can step in and compete for a starting role at safety with the impending graduation of Leigh McDowell. Only problem is his run defense. He can wrap up and tackle, but is awful at getting off blocks.

Last new prospect is another 3* ATH: Chance Cotton. He's from Haslett, Mississippi, and has been interested in coming here since the start of the year. He plays receiver now, but was a QB before losing the starting job to sophomore phenom Wyatt Allen. At 6'2, 212, Cotton isn't super fast, but is slippery, elusive, and a very good all round receiver. Reminds me of a bigger Julian Edelman. He's only ranked the #63 athlete, but teams are sleeping on him, no doubt scared away by his lack of elite speed and experience. I think he'll be a great slot receiver, and if our starter ever goes down, we'll have a great backup.

I have an update on Jason Berry. He's currently receiving a ton of interest from Old Dominion, as LSU and Texas have pulled their offers, guess his issues outweigh his talent for them So it'll probably come down to us and them. They've promised him the role of #1 back, whereas we'll still be giving Shakif Seymour and Travis Thompson carries.

                    SWARM COMMITS THROUGH WEEK 8:

                    Hard Commits

3* WR Spencer McGrew II (JUCO SO)

3* HB Travis Thompson (JUCO SO)

                    3* MLB Curt Harmon

                    3* ATH Alan Williams

2* WR Alan Ward (JUCO JR)

2* SS Reggie Coles (JUCO SO)

                    Verbal Commits

                    3* ATH Chance Skinner

                    3* ATH Chad Cotton

                    3* ATH Gregory Black

                    3* OLB Steve Jones

                    3* CB Walter Green

                    3* CB Willie Huff

couple of good wins there, nothing like a strong comeback win to spark something.

I like the storyline with the dismissal from the team, it's always good to add more challenge.

SWARM TAKE 41-27 LOSS TO NIU

231 yards, 2 scores on just 28 carries for NIU tailback Marcus Jones -- O-line folds, Seymour runs for just 26 yards on 15 carries

DeKalb, IL -- Westlake State fell to 5-2 on the season, taking their first MAC loss after a 2-1 start to conference play, as the NIU Huskies ran over the Swarm 41-27 on the back of HB Marcus Jones' 231 yards.

Westlake State actually opened the scoring with 1:47 left in the first, as Tristan Little caught a 14 yard pass for an easy score. But that seemed to wake up NIU, as they drove downfield and scored as the first quarter clock expired. Ben Reid would catch a score on the Swarm's next drive, but it was all NIU for the rest of the quarter as they scored 17 straight points to go into the break up 24-14. They'd extend their lead to 31-14 after HB/CB Tommy Mister caught a 7 yard score.

The Swarm would score 10 straight, then trade field goals with NIU, but wouldn't get back into the red zone until Mister, playing dime corner, picked off Joey Williams and ran for the game clinching first down a few plays later.

The Swarm will play 6-1 (4-1) Ohio at home next week.

The suspension/injury rolls always come in bunches, it seems. Happened last year too. Melton getting dismissed has actually hurt us a ton. Our run defense has been significantly worse. He was so good in our 3-4.

                            WE'RE GOING BOWLING!

[SIZE="1"]Tristan Little jukes a corner on his way to a 59 yard touchdown (LEFT) Michael Freeman's pick sealed the deal (RIGHT)/SIZE]

Swarm become bowl-eligible for first time ever following 34-20 win vs Ohio -- Joey Williams shows pocket passing ability -- Career days for wideouts Brink and Little -- Williams creeps into Heisman voting

Westlake, OH -- The Swarm are going to a bowl game for the first time in their 3 year history, after defeating Ohio for their 6th win on the season.

It was a good game from the start to the end for the Swarm, and they got out in front with the only points of the 1st quarter, a 41 yard TD pass from Joey Williams to Ronald Hollis.

                            Hollis' TD opened the scoring

They kicked a field goal after an Ohio punt to go up 10-0, but then the Bobcats put together a run of their own, scoring 13 straight to take the lead. The Swarm took it right back, however, with a rushing score from Williams, who's entered the top 5 of Heisman voting with his excellent play this year.

The 3rd quarter was all defense, with Ohio tailback Mike Irons getting the only score, a rushing TD from 11 yards out midway through the quarter.

After a few punts were exchanged, the Swarm scored about a minute into the 4th, on one of Tristan Little's 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Once again, both teams tightened up, not allowing another score until Little got open again, shook a defender, and went 59 yards to the house.

Ohio seemed to go into panic mode after that, with signal-caller Quinton Maxwell getting sacked twice, then throwing a bad pick on 3rd down, ending the game. The Swarm would kick a field goal with 17 seconds to go.

The Swarm go back on the road next week to play 3-5 (1-4) Ball State.

POTG: WS QB Joey Williams - 18/29, 326 yards, 3 TD, long of 69, 22 carries, 89 yards, TD, long of 26.

Positive: Once again, Joey Williams proves himself to be a star. Sacked 7 times, still managed to put up great numbers.

Question Mark: Offensive line is trash. Trash. Sophomore G Charles Payne just plays soft.

BALL STATE BLOW OUT SWARM 68-34, BANKS LAYS INTO HIS DEFENSE

Malik Dunner somehow escapes 5 Swarm defenders. (LEFT) Miles Boykin makes a 1 handed TD grab, one of his 3 scores on the day (RIGHT)

653 total yards for Cards as Swarm defense gets gashed all day -- Malik Dunner goes for 150 yards, TD on his first 4 carries -- Williams puts up nearly 500 yards on the day, jumps to 2nd in Heisman race

Muncie, IN -- 68. Sixty-Eight. That's how many points the Swarm gave up at Ball State this week. It wasn't a horrible start. After a Joey Williams fumble inside their own 35, the Swarm held the Cardinals to a field goal. They gave up a TD later in the quarter, but 10-0 isn't so bad. After another field goal, Ronald Hollis got behind the defense for a 54 yard score. So it was 13-7 about halfway through the 2nd quarter.

Then it fell apart. Ball State tailback Malik Dunner went for a 76 yard TD on his very first carry. The Swarm struck back with a field goal, but Dominic Christian took the ensuing kickoff 102 yards to the house. A couple drives later, Michael Freeman would pick off Ball State QB Riley Neal, and Joey Williams would get into the end zone on a rush. But with just 21 seconds to go, Ball State went 75 yards in 3 plays and scored, making it 34-17 at the half.

It kept coming. Ball State went on a 27-3 run, with TDs from Miles Boykin, who caught 3 on the day, 2 from Dunner, and one from 3rd string back Ben Martin. (Missed PAT) Williams would lead his team down the field and punch it in himself in the dying moments of the 3rd, but he damage was done. It was 61- 27 heading into the 4th.

Ball State TE Danny Pinter didn't score, but caught 6 balls for 141 yards, and was huge for the Cardinals

Williams was briefly knocked out of the game with a strained ribcage, and in his absence, Rian Robinson led a good drive, albeit against Ball State's backups, that was capped off by a Shakif Seymour TD.

The teams exchanged touchdowns, and Ball State ran it out to end the blowout win.

Banks was fuming postgame, calling his defense "unorganized, lazy, and soft". The full quote is below.

I can't even look at this defense right now. Offense took care of business. Some mistakes, but they good. They had 34. But the defense? Sloppy, lazy, soft, unorganized today. They should be ashamed of the way they played football today! That's not how we expect to play when we step on that field. That's not how we practice. Not the culture I've built. I ain't even gone talk no more, 'fore I say something that gets me in trouble.
The Swarm go back home, and will play 4-5 (1-4 MAC) Central Michigan.

Jeremy Poole catches a pass in the endzone (LEFT) Shakif Seymour dives into the endzone (RIGHT)

Despite 4 turnovers, Swarm win, hold off comeback effort -- Jake Johnson carves up Westlake secondary

Westlake, OH -- Westlake State bounced back from last week's embarrassing loss at Ball State with a good win over Central Michigan.

The Jake Johnson-led Chippewas struck first, with Berkely Edwards scoring from 4 yards out on the game's first drive. They extended their lead to 14-0 with a TD pass to Brandon Childress, and they looked to be in control. But the Swarm scored 13 straight to open the second quarter, 2 field goals and a Shakif Seymour rushing score.

After a CMU field goal, Joey Williams would give the Swarm their first lead of the game, after ending a long drive with a TD on a sneak.

Brett Wright would add to that lead with a 13 yard rushing score, making it 27-17. Edwards would find the endzone for the Chippewas, but Westlake State came right back, with Williams finding Jeremy Poole up the seam for a 26 yard TD. After a field goal, Banks put in the backups.

Jeremy Poole catches the ball in the endzone

There's a reason why they're backups. The Chippewas scored 10 points in 3 minutes. After a field goal, the Swarm went 3 and out, and a good return gave CMU a short field. Johnson got a first down, and from the 22, made an incredible jump throw to Childress in the end zone. Great throw, but Andrew Neal should have seen the ball. The Swarm recovered the onside kick, and that was that.

The Swarm remain at home, and will play 3-7 (2-4 MAC) Akron next week.
