WILLIAMS, HOLLIS SHOW OUT ON SENIOR DAY

    2 of Hollis' 3 scores

480 total yards for Williams -- Ronald Hollis puts up 212 yards, 3 scores in final home game -- Zips outscored 49-10 with Swarm starters in game

Westlake, OH -- Last season, the Westlake State Swarm were blown out 42-14 by Akron in their season opener. Ronald Hollis, playing his first game in a Swarm uniform, was held to 3 catches for just 23 yards, one of the worst games of his college career. This time, the Swarm were on the other side, beating the Zips 55-31, in a game that was much worse than the final score would indicate. Hollis got his own personal revenge as well, torching the Zips for 212 yards and 3 scores in his final home game.

Joey Williams showed why he's a top 5 Heisman candidate, throwing for 270 yards, running for 210 more, and accounting for 6 total scores. He started early, rushing for a score on his team's first possession. The Zips countered with a field goal, and that was all the scoring in the first quarter.

But Westlake was just getting started. They scored 42 straight points in the second and third quarters, with Williams involved on 5 of them, 3 passing scores and 2 more rushes. (Ben Reid returned a punt 72 yards for a score). Ronald Hollis caught all 3 of Williams' TDs on the day.

Akron wideout Austin Wolf returned a kickoff 91 yards to put the Zips on the board for the first time in almost 2 full quarters.

The 4th quarter saw Swarm backup Ayo Chandler come in and throw what were likely the final passes of his career. He went 2-8 for 45 yards.

Chandler got a chance to play for likely the final time

The Swarm go on the road and will play 6-5 (6-1) Western Michigan next week.

WILLIAMS GOES DOWN AS SWARM LOSE TIGHT GAME

After throwing an early pick (TOP LEFT), Joey Williams left the game with a concussion. (BOTTOM) Jamauri Bogan scores one of his 3 rushing TDs (TOP RIGHT)

Williams left game early with mild concussion, will return for bowl -- Matt Schneider, Ayo Chandler get reps at QB -- Jamauri Bogan gashes Swarm front 7

Kalamazoo, MI -- Western Michigan defeated Westlake State 27-23 yesterday afternoon in one of the better games of the year. At 5-2 in conference play, this game was a must win for the Swarm to have a shot at the MAC title game.

Joey Williams had his worst game so far, throwing a pick on his first pass, setting up a WMU field goal. After punts were exchanged, he would leave the game a few plays into his team's next drive after sustaining what's been confirmed to be a mild concussion, after being sacked.

Ayo Chandler would come in, and lose 3 yards on his first set of downs. The Swarm settled for a field goal, and Western Michigan would score on their next drive, courtesy of a Jamauri Bogan rushing score. Bogan ran for 102 yards and 3 scores on just 16 carries.

The second quarter was all Westlake State after HC Davonnie Banks made an interesting choice: he subbed in safety Matt Schneider at QB. Schneider played QB in high school, and before the signing of Joey Williams, was expected to compete for the starting job.

      Schneider runs in a score

With his 4.4 speed, Schneider was able to run the option almost as effectively as Williams, and even threw the ball decently. The Swarm scored 13 points in the quarter, with Schneider running in a score.

But after a WMU field goal, Schneider and the Swarm found themselves in a 3rd and 8 from their own 27. Schneider dropped back, stepped up and ran it. He lowered his shoulder into a linebacker and fell immediately. He was slow to get up, and left with a broken collarbone. He'll miss the rest of this season.

So Chandler got another chance. He did throw a TD, a 5 yard pass to Tristan Little. But after 2 more Bogan rushing scores, WMU found themselves up 27-23, and Chandler tried to play the hero. He tried to force it to his favorite target, Ronald Hollis, and threw 4 4th quarter picks, sinking the Swarm's chances at a win.

We spoke to Hollis postgame. He said the following:

Losing Joey was rough. Luckily it's not that serious, and he'll be able to return for our bowl, but you see how much different the offense is without him. You know, with Ayo, they know we not running no option. They don't really have to stack the box like that. That means they can double me, double Ben. It's tough to do anything when you playing one-dimensional.

9 catches and 139 yards from Hollis weren't enough to get the job done

Despite the loss, the Swarm have still had a very successful regular season, finishing at 8-4, and are slated to play 7-6 Army in the Military Bowl.

"COMEBACK KID" WILLIAMS LEADS COMEBACK WIN OVER ARMY

Williams accounted for 4 of the Swarm's 5 second half scores -- Despite averaging 7 yards a carry, Army can't get it done, outscored 35-3 in second half -- Swarm win first bowl game in program history

Washington, DC -- They did it! Joey Williams led the Westlake State Swarm to a 45-20 comeback win over Army in the Military Bowl, giving Westlake their first ever bowl victory.

Army were in control for the entire first half, scoring 13 straight after a Williams rushing score. Westlake State tacked on a field goal to go into the break down 17-10. They looked to be headed for a disappointing end to the season, facing a 3rd and 16 from their own 20.

Joey Williams, who had completed just 3 of his first 11 passes, rolled out and made possibly the play of the season, throwing to on open Ronald Hollis about 45 yards downfield. Hollis caught it wide open and went all the way to the endzone.

That play sparked a 35-3 second half in favor of the Swarm. Hollis caught another TD pass, giving him 12 on the year, Williams ran for 2 more scores, and Shakif Seymour ran for a season-long 36 yard TD.

Williams, who came into the year with sky-high expectations and did nothing but deliver, leading the Swarm to 9 wins (5 of them comebacks) on his way to a top 5 Heisman finish and a Maxwell award, was elated. We caught up with him on the field postgame.

Man I know I said I'd make this team great when I signed, but I never expected this! We got 9 wins, Military Bowl. I wanna thank God,
and all my guys, man, couldn't have done it without them. WI wanna give a special shoutout to Coach Banks and his staff for believing in me at QB,
and not making me play out wide. This just the start, believe that.
Banks was proud of his team, praising their "strength of character, determination, and attitude".

Damn... Respect to you for finishing out that Ball State game... I'm not sure I would have been able to finish that out lol.

Felt so good to win some games. Back to back 2-10 seasons was tough.

I didn't like the Natty. UCLA should have been there, but they blew an 12-0 season in the PAC-12 title game. Then there was Clemson, 12-1 and hadn't lost since week 4. I don't really care since it didn't affect me, but I don't like that the game doesn't really take strength of schedule into account.

Williams carried this team. Singlehandedly won us games. Without him, we're looking at 3-4 wins.

Thanks for checking in, both of y'all. I don't know when the offseason will be up. Could be tonight, could be Saturday.

SWARM PULL IN #39 CLASS IN NATION AFTER 9-4 SEASON

19 man class led by prized tailback Berry, DE Allen

Thing are definitely looking up for Westlake State football. After freshman phenom Joey Williams stepped in and won the Maxwell award, leading his squad to 9 wins on the way, the Swarm have just landed a class that could prove to be the foundation for a very successful run. 10 incoming players are expected to get serious playing time this coming season.

4* tailback Jason Berry could be something special. The former #1 recruit's stock has fallen after being kicked out of school twice, but he ran all over Ohio HS defenses last season. The 6'1, 235 pounder reportedly runs a 4.44 40, and has the size and strength to shrug off would-be tacklers. He'll compete with Shakif Seymour, and incoming JUCO soph Travis Thompson for the role of lead back.
