Game 6, Year 16 (2025 season): #3 Tulane Green Wave at #2 Notre Dame

    #3 31 -- 6-0
    #2 13 -- 6-1

OLB Sean Williamson (#9) and the Tulane defense celebrates following a fourth down stop in the second half.

#3 Tulane marches into South Bend and comes away with a statement win versus #2 Notre Dame | Playing without Heisman contending RB Tompkins, Green Wave gets steady performance from QB McBride and two defensive touchdowns in big victory | Underdog Wave's stunning dominance shows the nation that SEC is still the king of college football | Team must avoid looking ahead to date with defending national champion Bama, will travel to Lexington to face Kentucky next week

South Bend, IN -- Perhaps #2 Notre Dame was emotionally spent following last week's comeback victory over rival USC. Or maybe perhaps it was just that Tulane was well-rested coming off of its bye week and having two weeks to prepare. Whichever way you'd like to spin it, the end result is the same, as the #3 ranked Green Wave absolutely demolished the #2 ranked Fighting Irish 31-13 Saturday night in chilly South Bend, where temperatures dipped into the 30s with the wind chill. The visiting team got two defensive touchdowns along with a 250-yard 2-touchdown performance from redshirt sophomore QB Jimmy McBride, as the Wave overcame the absence of starting RB Tony Tompkins as well as some early adversity to pick up one of if its most significant non-conference wins in recent memory.

Redshirt sophomore QB Jimmy McBride was efficient, completing 20 of his 25 pass attempts for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night.

The Green Wave, who came into the game as 8 1/2 point underdogs, squandered its opening possession by being stuffed on a wild fourth and one gamble by head coach D. Geezy at their own 42-yard line when FB J.J. Williams was blasted behind the line of scrimmage by Notre Dame DE Zach Caldwell, who was the nation's #1 overall high school recruit in the 2023 off-season.

"I wanted our team to establish some early dominance, because that was our mindset going in," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy. "It just didn't work out for us there but I do think we showed both us and them, that we came here to win."

The ill-fated gamble would end up not hurting the Wave however, as Tulane reserve safety La'Roi Brown, in the game because of members of the Wave defense being winded early due to the cold air, came up with a big play with the Fighting Irish in scoring position. Brown, who was responsible for a game-sealing interception two seasons ago in a close 33-32 win at Tennessee back in 2023, picked off Notre Dame QB George Hardin's option pitch attempt to RB Pat McMahon and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown that gave his team a 7-0 lead. The big play completely swung the momentum back into Tulane's favor and set the tone for the evening.

Later, in the second quarter, McBride would lead an 8-play 80-yard drive which lasted 3:08 and ended with a 33-yard touchdown pass to WR Kenny Bell that increased their team's lead to 14-0, a lead they would take into the halftime locker room.

The Wave would increase its advantage to 24-0 following a 42-yard field goal by PK Aaron Larson and an 8-yard touchdown pass from McBride to true freshman WR Grant Brady. Both drives were aided by clutch third down receptions by RB Michael Brown Jr., who finished the game with a career-high 11 receptions for 109 yards.

"We came out today wanting to establish the short passing game with Michael, really as an extension of the running game, with Tony being out," said Tulane first year offensive coordinator Joe Roberts, who was without the Heisman contending Tompkins following a pectoral injury sustained by the senior star.

Notre Dame (6-1) was completely overwhelmed all evening offensively and was held to a season-low 334 yards, including only 244 passing yards for Hardin, who was red-hot coming into the game after last week's 396-yard 5-touchdown performance in the Irish's aforementioned 35-27 win over the then-#2 ranked Trojans. The Green Wave used a steady dose of heavy blitz pressure out of multiple defensive formations, confusing the Notre Dame offense all night.

Sophomore CB J.T. Hills came up with the game-clinching turnover for a second week in a row, this time getting a pick-six that made the score 31-6 in the fourth quarter and all but ended any hopes of a Notre Dame miracle comeback.
"We watched a lot of tape these past couple of weeks and one thing we saw is that no one they have faced this year has forced the issue. Everyone just kind of sat back and took their medicine, and we decided that if they're going to beat us, we will go down swinging with pressure packages," said Tulane second year defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar, who used a steady mix of 2-4-5 and 3-2-6 packages throughout the night.

The Irish would finally get on the board when OLB Jonathan Cobbs picked off McBride and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown that made the score 24-6. However, Tulane sophomore CB J.T. Hills would return the favor in the fourth quarter with a pick-six of his own, taking an interception 35 yards for a game-sealing touchdown that made the score 31-6.

"I'd be lying if I was to say I expected us to dominate the scoreboard the way we did against this great team, but I do know we were supremely confident that we could come in here and get the 'W," said Geezy.

"We still have a lot of football left to play, but we will certainly enjoy this one for the next 24 hours before moving on to next week."

Tulane (6-0) will travel to face Kentucky (2-4) next week at Lexington. The Green Wave defeated the Wildcats 34-15 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Sophomore RB Michael Brown Jr. was a big part of Saturday night's game plan and finished the night with a career-high 11 receptions for 109 yards. Here, he celebrates following a third down and long conversion.

WR Anthony Robertson and his Fighting Irish teammates all "tap the sign" on their way through Notre Dame Stadium's historical tunnel walk onto the playing field.

The Fighting Irish Leprechaun leads the troops to the sideline in what was an electric pregame atmosphere at South Bend.

Coach Geezy tried to give his team a spark early, going for it on 4th and 1 from Tulane's own 42 on the game's opening possession, however the rare gamble backfired as Notre Dame star DE Zach Caldwell stuffed FB J.J. Williams behind the line of scrimmage, turning the ball over on downs.

With the Fighting Irish in scoring position a few plays following Geezy's gamble, reserve defensive back La'Roi Brown caught QB George Hardin's option pitch attempt to RB Pat McMahon and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown that gave Tulane a 7-0 first quarter lead.

With leading rusher Tony Tompkins on the mend, Tulane RB Michael Brown Jr. was a big part of Tulane's game plan and finished with 11 receptions for 109 yards.

RB Eric Banks bounced off of DE T.J. Pearson's tackle attempt on this first half carry on his way to finishing with 112 rushing yards on the night.

Tulane defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar's unit used bracket coverage on Notre Dame WR Chad Harris all evening long. Here, OLB Sean Williamson swats away a pass attempt to Harris, who finished with a season low 2 receptions for 16 yards.

Notre Dame junior WR Anthony Robertson picked up the slack and took advantage of the attention being paid to Harris, finishing the night with 6 receptions for 83 yards.

Redshirt junior WR Kenny Bell, a former 2-star recruit and converted high school and junior college quarterback, took advantage of this coverage mismatch versus OLB Jonathan Cobbs (#58) and hauled in a 33-yard second quarter touchdown that made the score 14-0.

WR Adam Lawson fights off Notre Dame freshman CB Joseph Pruitt after coming down with a jump ball reception for a big gain in the second half.

A couple of plays after his big catch, Lawson jumps onto the back of freshman WR Grant Brady following Brady's 8-yard third quarter touchdown reception that gave the Wave a commanding 24-0 lead.

McBride's ill-advised decision to throw while being hit resulted in Notre Dame OLB Jonathan Cobbs picking off his pass and returning it for a 44 yards for a touchdown that made the score 24-6 and gave Notre Dame a brief glimmer of hope.

With Notre Dame flirting with the idea of a miracle fourth quarter comeback, CB J.T. Hills' pick-six essentially put the game away, making the score 31-6.

Notre Dame true freshman WR Aaron Whitfield dove into end zone for a late 31-yard touchdown in garbage time, but it was too little too late for the home team.

Following his final kneel down, McBride celebrated Tulane's emphatic victory with members of his offensive line.

Rutgers-LSU and Southern Miss-Houston could be sneaky good games.

Nice dominant win. I know you're not looking past Kentucky. Congrats on the #1 ranking.

Now that is a huge statement. Two defensive touchdowns are a huge boost for any team. After that first one, your boys never looked back. Solid with Geezy!

Yes, those are decent matchups; it doesn't really move the needle much at the top of the rankings though. Maybe Southern Miss could possibly string together something.

Appreciate it man...it's a different feeling when you're the #1 team in the (fake, fictional) land.

You're not going to lose a lot of games when you score two defensive touchdowns. That big play by La'Roi Brown early really set the tone and provided us a huge momentum boost. He's really come up with a couple of nice plays for us in big situations these last couple of years.

The only reason he was even in the game was because one of my starters was fatigued. He is on all special teams, but I may have to get that man some more P.T. on D!

Game 7, Year 16 Preview (2025 season): #1 Tulane Green Wave at Kentucky Wildcats

              GAME 7 PREVIEW

              Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

              ....................29 1/2....................

2024: WR Brandon McIntyre's 62-yard third quarter touchdown helped Tulane open up a 24-7 third quarter lead as the senior finished with 5 receptions for 118 yards.

Last Meeting: Last season, a banged up #12 ranked Tulane squad turned a somewhat close 17-7 halftime lead into an eventual 34-15 win over visiting Kentucky, improving their record to 7-1 on the season and picking up its 10th straight win over the Wildcats. Former Green Wave LB Chuckie Coley's 30-yard interception return in the second quarter gave the Wave its first lead of the game, and they never looked back. Despite the struggles of QB Obi Clemons, playing in place of injured starter Bryce Allen, the Wave were able to overcome an early injury to RB Tony Tompkins and eventually pull away from what was a pesky Wildcats squad.

2023: LEFT - The Kentucky offensive line was no match for then-freshman DE T.J. Pearson as the former blue chip recruit finished the afternoon with 3 sacks on the day. | RIGHT - Senior RB Tim Powers pounds his chest following a 6-yard carry that put him over the 100-yard mark for the first time two seasons ago after Geezy allowed him to stay in the game early in the fourth quarter to reach the milestone.

Last Meeting at Venue: Then-#10 ranked Tulane had no problems disposing of an overwhelmed Kentucky squad, ousting their SEC crossover rivals 42-7 two seasons ago at rain-soaked Lexington. Then-junior WR Brandon McIntyre's strong 8 reception 146 yard 2 touchdown performance helped lead the Green Wave offensive surge while then-true freshman DE T.J. Pearson's breakout 3-sack performance helped catapult the visiting Green Wave to victory over the Wildcats.

2012: In the game's second overtime period, Kentucky faced a 3rd and 10 from the 25-yard line. QB Morgan Newton attempted to hit WR E.J. Fields on a slant route but the pass sailed on him and was easily intercepted by Green Wave CB Ryan Travis. The senior defensive back, playing in his final collegiate game, then took the pick 91 yards for a game-winning walk-off touchdown that made the score 52-46.

Last Meeting III (Legacy Classic): 13 seasons ago, then still a member of Conference USA and playing in just their second bowl appearance under head coach D. Geezy, then-#20 ranked Tulane defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 52-46 in a double overtime victory at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl at snowy Memphis. Former Green Wave QB Curtis Byrd, then a sophomore, threw for a career-high 445 yards and 5 touchdowns while senior WR D.J. Banks hauled in 5 catches for a career-high 210 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Wave erased a 43-24 fourth quarter deficit to force overtime. Senior CB Ryan Travis' interception in overtime #2 was returned 91 yards for the game-ending touchdown, giving Geezy his first ever bowl victory with the Wave.

I hope you're right. This is a game we should dominate if we decide to show up today. Not to sound too much like a real life coach, but it is important that we not overlook these guys though. They've given us a handful of tough games over the years, even in some of our peak seasons.

They have some decent speed offensively and we have to make sure we don't let them get any early momentum. Hopefully we can put this game to bed early and get our starters some rest in the second half ahead of the Bama game next weekend.

Time to kick this one off!

Game 7, Year 16 (2025 season): #1 Tulane Green Wave at Kentucky Wildcats

                    #1 66 -- 7-0 (5-0)
                    NR 34 -- 2-5 (0-4)

MLB Joey Rodgers (LEFT) and CB Tyler Harrison (RIGHT) each returned interceptions for touchdowns in a game-time span of less than a minute during the third quarter.

After a very slow start, top-ranked Tulane gets a 35-point second quarter explosion to pull away from Kentucky in 66-34 romp at frigid Lexington | Defense and special teams combines to score 4 touchdowns as Green Wave achieves its highest ever point total under Geezy | Despite large margin of victory, veteran head coach disappointed in his team's sloppy, up-and-down performance | Wave must clean up its act with colossal matchup versus defending national champion Alabama up next

Lexington, KY -- In a game that resulted in the most points ever scored by a Green Wave team under head coach D. Geezy and the most ever combined points in a game during the veteran head coach's 16 season tenure, Tulane scored a whopping 35 points en route to a roller-coaster ride 66-34 victory over Kentucky at chilly Kroger Field. The two teams' combined 100 points bested the combined 98 points accumulated during the two schools' Liberty Bowl matchup that ended in a 52-46 double overtime victory for the Wave, and Tulane's 66-point total bested the 62 Geezy's squad scored versus Vanderbilt back in 2019.

In a contest that featured 3 defensive touchdowns along with a 12-yard fumble return touchdown on special teams by redshirt sophomore DB Benny Smith, the Green Wave was able to overcome 5 offensive turnovers on their way to victory in what was their final tune-up prior to a huge SEC matchup next weekend versus #2 Alabama.

Reserve CB Benny Smith's scoop and score on kickoff coverage increased Tulane's lead to 21-10 during their 35-point second quarter onslaught.

Despite the lopsided result, Kentucky actually got out to a fast start, mainly by way of its defense. Early in the game, DE Jeff Alexander was able to successfully diagnose a screen pass attempt by QB Jimmy McBride on the Wave's first offensive series and hauled in an interception that was returned 60 yards for a touchdown which gave his team a 7-0 lead.

Later, on Tulane's second offensive possession of the game, the Wildcats 'D' came through once again. This time, a deep pass attempt by McBride bounced off the fingers of WR Adam Lawson and into the awaiting hands of Wildcats SS Ray Johnson for yet another interception. The turnover would result in a successful 36-yard field goal conversion by PK Jamie Quinn that increased Kentucky's lead to 10-0 late in the first quarter. And that's when the Tulane scoring avalanche began.

McBride's 35-yard touchdown toss to RB Michael Brown Jr. on the very first play of the second quarter ignited the scoring binge and was followed up by another touchdown pass soon thereafter to WR Kenny Bell that quickly gave the Wave a 14-10 second quarter lead. Then, the other Green Wave units outside of its offense got into the act, first with Smith's aforementioned special teams score and then followed by CB Jamaal Green's 54-yard interception return touchdown which made the score 28-10. Finally, McBride's 8-yard touchdown pass to TE Ronnie Parsons just before half ended the incredible, Geezy era high 35-point quarter and left the Wildcats' heads spinning, down 35-10 at halftime.

"I don't know if we have ever seen a more flawless quarter in my time here. Offense, defense, and special teams - it was like we could do no wrong," said Geezy.

Coming out of the break, it was more of the same. McBride's 8-yard touchdown pass to Brown Jr., their second touchdown hookup of the day, made the score 42-10. Brown Jr., who had a career-high 11 receptions for 109 yards during last week's 31-13 win at Notre Dame, led the team in receiving this week once again, hauling in 4 receptions for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns.

After giving up an inexplicable 80-yard touchdown run to Kentucky RB Joel Baker, who finished with a game-high 161 rushing yards, Tulane's defense went right back to putting up points of their own. MLB Joey Rodgers' 22-yard interception returned for a touchdown with 5:23 remaining was quickly followed up by CB Tyler Harrison's 21-yard interception return touchdown less than a minute later that made the score 56-17.

Redshirt sophomore QB Jimmy McBride threw for 229 yards and a season-high 4 touchdowns on Saturday, but the three interceptions he tossed drew the ire of head coach D. Geezy.
Wildcats QB Victor McGee finished the game 13 of 26 for 168 yards with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, with both of his touchdown passes coming after the Green Wave made mass substitutions on both sides of the football.

"We knew if we brought pressure today that we'd likely come away with a few turnovers. We blitz the hell out of them and you saw the result," said Tulane defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar.

With the game well in hand, Tulane would insert senior backup QB Obi Clemons into the game to close it out. However, the fifth year player would end up throwing an interception on his first series which resulted in a Wildcats touchdown a few plays later. Then, on Clemons' very next snap from scrimmage, he fumbled the ball away on a scramble and FS Sam Hobbs recovered. The play would lead to a Kentucky field goal and also to Clemons riding the pine the rest of the way in favor of third string redshirt senior QB Bruce Schroeder.

"This game certainly wasn't flawless and to tell you the truth, overall, I thought we looked very sloppy at times on both sides of the ball," said Geezy.

"We turned it over way too many times, both our starters and the backup unit. I won't pin all of the interceptions on the quarterbacks, because a couple of them were the result of pressure and another was the result of a drop. It's really a team turnover in a lot of cases, and that's something we'll have to take a look at how to improve because if it happens next week, we will probably lose by 30-plus points."

Tulane (7-0) will host #2 Alabama (7-0) next Saturday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Led in-part by former Green Wave RB Deuce Monroe, the Crimson Tide defeated the Green Wave 20-10 last year at Tuscaloosa on their way to a perfect 14-0 record that resulted in Alabama winning the SEC, and also winning its first national title since 2012.

RB Michael Brown Jr. was once again Jimmy McBride's favorite target on Saturday as he finished with over 100 receiving yards for a second straight game. Here, he celebrates an 8-yard third quarter touchdown reception, his second score on the afternoon.

Heavy underdog Kentucky came out swinging early as DE Jeff Alexander sniffed out an early screen pass attempt to come away with an interception, which he returned 60 yards for a touchdown that gave the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

DT Micah Harris celebrates after making a tackle at the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 1 to force an early Wildcats punt.

RB Michael Brown Jr. has carved out quite a niche as a pass catcher out of the backfield and finished Saturday's game with 4 receptions for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns, including this 35-yard second quarter score.

QB Jimmy McBride's jump pass while on the run resulted in a 6-yard touchdown to WR Kenny Bell that gave Tulane a 14-10 lead and they'd never look back.

Senior TE Ronnie Parsons' diving reception in the end zone increased his team's lead to 35-10 with just 0:13 remaining in the first half and completed a 35-point second quarter for the Green Wave.

After watching Tulane score 42 straight points, RB Joel Baker finally stopped the Wildcats' bleeding with this 80-yard touchdown that made the score 42-17 in the third quarter. Baker finished the afternoon with a game-high 161 rushing yards.

Like most Tulane runners on this day, FB J.J. Williams had his way with the Wildcats defense, finishing with a season-high 48 yards on only 4 carries.

CB Tyler Harrison's 21-yard interception return for a touchdown made the score 56-17 midway through the third quarter and signaled the end of the day for most of Tulane's starters on both offense and defense.

MLB Joey Rodgers, a junior college transfer playing in his first season with Tulane and the "other" middle linebacker in the Wave's 3-4 alignment, had his best game thus far and finished with an interception returned for a touchdown along with this sack.

Seldom-used TE Danny Bailey and other members of Tulane's second offensive unit celebrate with reserve senior RB Paul Ryan, who ran for a career-high 97 yards and scored his first career touchdown during the game's final seconds.

What an absolute drubbing heading into an enormous part of the schedule. 4 of the final 5 games against Top 25 teams and three are Top 10. Nothing like peaking at the right time!

Put aside the fact that I'm not caught up (hard for me) and just decided to read a dang report. Have to immerse myself in the work of "The Standard" once in awhile. I especially love the box scores you put together. Impressive smackdown of Kentucky and incredible 2nd quarter, even beating that Bovada line which I thought was a big aggressive. Of the upcoming games, which one do you think presents the biggest challenge? I have to guess USM, especially because it's on the road?

I hope you're right. I'm not so sure I came out of this one feeling like we're peaking though. We have some significant flaws we still need to try to manage to overcome - turnovers, sacks allowed, and run defense. I just hope we figure it all out sooner rather than later, with this incredible next slate of games ahead.

Hellisan, always great to hear from you. I definitely feel you on reading others' reports these days. You and I both know that as time passes, it becomes harder and harder, so I appreciate you taking the time.

You may or may not recall, but it was you that set the code box standard back in the day with the box scores. In fact, I think it was your original box score model from MaddenMania that I got my inspiration from, and I have been tweaking it slightly ever since.

I may or may not have snapped the ball when I didn't need to at the end of the Kentucky game to get that last TD just to cover the spread LOL (also wanted to get my very seldom-used senior reserve RB Paul Ryan a touchdown).

As for my remaining schedule, I would say Alabama, talent-wise, presents the toughest test. As you'll see in the next day or so, their roster is absolutely stacked. Southern Miss looks daunting, as we have not won in their building since the 2017 season. In fact, we are 0-3 at their place during the "Part II" saga of this dynasty. But Alabama, the defending SEC and national champion, is without question the best team we'll face this season on paper.

Erin Andrews of FOX Sports reports that Tulane RB Tony Tompkins (82 ovr) will play in Saturday's critical home matchup versus #2 Alabama after putting in limited sessions of practice on Wednesday and Thursday. According to Andrews' source, Tompkins will start the game, but will be on a "pitch count" of about 10 to 15 touches total in what will be his first game back since suffering a torn pectoral muscle during the team's 27-22 week 7 win versus Florida. Tompkins reportedly will also not see any snaps as a return man on special teams as the team tries to ease him back into the lineup after missing each of Tulane's past two games.

A Heisman Trophy candidate, Tompkins has rushed 68 times for 597 yards and 8 touchdowns so far this year, and has also caught 11 passes for 238 yards to go along with his 2 punt return touchdowns. The former 4-star recruit out of Cutler Ridge, Florida was officially listed as "questionable" on this week's injury report.

Tulane | Geezy, Monroe engage in war of words

report courtesy Taylor Bisciotti, SEC Network

Taylor Bisciotti reports that there is a growing since of friction between Tulane head coach D. Geezy and former Tulane/current Alabama RB Deuce Monroe as the Green Wave gets set to host the Crimson Tide Saturday Night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Geezy, who stated during his weekly Monday radio show that he is "tired of talking about a running back that played one year for Tulane three seasons ago" and "while good, isn't the incredible phenom that the media makes him out to be," caught the ear of Monroe. The former 4-star recruit out of Boaz, Alabama had terse words in response to the 16-year Green Wave head coach's comments.

"You see what I mean? The guy just has zero respect for me, and that's why I'm where I'm at," Monroe said in response to Geezy's comments during a taped interview with Bisciotti, set to air during ESPN's College GameDay, which will be broadcast live from New Orleans outside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday morning.

"I mean, to tell you the truth, the guy himself is a little overrated in my eyes. What has he done other than that 2 or 3 year run where he had Jamie Manning and Reggie Moore and lucked into a couple of national titles almost a decade ago? They haven't been back since, and Saturday night, we're going to make sure they have to wait yet another year while they watch us go get yet another ring.

"...I'm not asking for much; just keep my name out your mouth."

Monroe, who transferred from Tulane to Alabama following his 2022 freshman campaign partly because he was led to believe by Geezy that he'd never be a feature back in the Green Wave's offense due to his small stature, has flourished in the feature back role this season for the Crimson Tide. Through 7 games this season, the 5-8 179 pound Monroe has 164 carries for 772 yards and 7 touchdowns and has also caught 17 passes for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns to go along with his 1 punt return touchdown, and last year he helped the Tide win its first national title since the 2012 season.

2024: Alabama's dynamic duo of RB Cameron Miller and RB Deuce Monroe combined for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns during last year's Tidal Wave Party.

Last Meeting: Last season, then-#4 ranked Alabama stormed out to a 17-3 lead and held off a late fourth quarter rally to oust then-#11 Tulane in a 20-10 victory at Tuscaloosa. Like he had in each of his previous three meetings versus the Green Wave, former Tide RB Cameron Miller dominated, rushing 15 times for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. His partner in crime last year, former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe, also had a great evening versus his former team, gaining 91 yards on the ground. The Crimson Tide defense sacked former Green Wave QB Bryce Allen 9 times, helping to lead Alabama to its second win over Tulane in the two teams' last three meetings and eventually the 2024 BCS National Championship.

2023: QB Obi Clemons stepped up when his team needed it the most. After a playaction fake to RB Tim Powers, his 72-yard touchdown completion to WR Jason Mason provided the game-winning points for Tulane.

Last Meeting at Venue: Two seasons ago, then-#10 ranked Tulane scored 17 unanswered points en route to knocking off then-#4 ranked Alabama 27-24 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. QB Obi Clemons, making his first career start, threw a 72-yard touchdown to former Green Wave WR Jason Mason in the fourth quarter to give the Wave its first and only lead of the contest. Mason finished the night with 8 receptions for 165 yards and the Green Wave also got a huge performance from former RB Tim Powers, who finished with 152 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns to help improve his team's record to 7-2.

                                Head Coach D. Geezy's Take

Tulane head coach D. Geezy addressed the media Thursday afternoon after practice.

This is the most impressive team we are going to face this season as far as overall talent. They boast playmakers at all the skill positions on offense as well as at every level of the defense.

GREENOUT: As is tradition, Geezy indicated that his team will be wearing their all-green uniforms and has asked all fans planning to attend to wear green for Saturday's rivalry game matchup.

We all know the storyline with Deuce Monroe and him making his return to the Superdome, but we can't get caught up focusing on a scatback. They have big time receivers and an excellent quarterback that will light you up if you blow any assignments.

Defensively, their front-7 is the best in college football, year-in and year-out, and this season isn't any different. Thankfully, they lost a couple of top 5 picks in last year's NFL draft on the back-end at corner in Quinton Bentley and Lewis Jones, but the guys that are now in their place are more than capable and have the speed to matchup with anybody. This unit sacked us 9 times in last year's contest and held us to just 2 of 11 on third downs, so us staying ahead of the sticks will be crucial if we don't want to see a repeat of that on Saturday.

We have our work cut out for us this week, and everything is on the line. We have not won the SEC in three seasons, and that's our first goal each year. The last time we were #1, three years ago, they're the team that beat us and we haven't been #1 since. They're the defending conference champs and the defending national champs, and we have an opportunity here to take that away from them and knock them from the top of the mountain. We are very ready for this challenge.

                                - Tulane head coach D. Geezy
