    Re: NHL 2K8 Editor (Snowdrift)

When you import, the editor will skip a player if it can't find a player of the same type in the save file to overwrite (scorer, playmaker, etc.). You can't change player types, either. I know the game gives you the option, but if you try it you'll find out that after one season, the player's type reverts to the old one. It's a tease.

The only way to really get more playmakers, without glitching the game, is to keep exiting and re-entering the Create Player menu in the game until it randomly generates a playmaker (really tedious)... then accept that player and send him to free agents. Same for other player types if you're missing other types.

Anyway, to know how many players need to be created, just try the import and see what happens. The error message at the end will tell you exactly how many more players of what types are missing. I suspect it will be over 20 playmakers for my roster.

Wow...finnicky. and really interesting. But it doesn't matter anyway, because you had said you can't save in 360 format, right? So the moment you save everything you've done you have to end up with a PS3 save injected into the 360 save, yet again sparking the equipment issue.

No. Format is irrelevant. The equipment bug has nothing to do with the format of a save file. It happens only when you edit equipment on one platform, then view it on the other. If you create a new 360 save using the default rosters, the equipment glitch should never come up again, even after you "convert" the file in the editor... unless you load it onto a PS3 and make edits.

Conversion just makes it possible to load a file on the PS3. It doesn't add or remove any game data from the file. And it doesn't stop you from using it on the 360, either. The editor should work fine for both systems now. If you don't want the equipment problem to come up, just keep save files to the system they were created on.

Hmm... ok. I think I'll be doing some testing tomorrow.

            17 Playmakers. So, questions...
            1. Which 17 did it not import?
            2. There is still the issue of having to dress guys one by one. Correct?
            3. Is there any way to get the game to set all lines automatically? Then you could at least bring the roster file back into the editor and edit them instead of having to dress and send to the minors one by one.

Glad you got it to work. If it says 17 playmakers were skipped, it'll be the last 17 in the spreadsheet. I'll bet for example that Nicklas Backstrom of the Capitals was skipped since the Caps are the thirtieth team.

By the way, did you check to see if the equipment's okay? I'm sure it will be but since I don't have an XBox I wouldn't mind the confirmation.

But it doesn't matter, because you don't have to do it all over again to get those players in. If you go to import the same spreadsheet again, the editor will automatically skip over players that already exist, it won't duplicate them. It will just fill in the missing players. So just create the playmakers, then import that spreadsheet again to finish the job.

Yeah, unfortunately you have to do it manually. I'd like to add that feature but it would be a bit complicated.

What I do is make a trade between two teams... it will warn you the lines are invalid after the trade and offer to fix them. It will automatically set player status (dressed, scratched) and lines at the same time. Just make sure you remember who you traded and trade them back right away.

Also, I take it the equipment is okay, right?

Yes, sorry, forgot the most important thing which is that all equipment was perfect.

                A few issues...
                1. The created teams from the roster I exported from. They obviously weren't on the stock roster I imported to. How do I get them to show up? Make them again without players? Make them in the editor? I noticed in the editor they have weird text in their names, make them like that? Make them with their normal names? What do you suggest?

                2.

Create the playmakers where? In the editor? Do I go look at the spreadsheet myself and find those 17 guys and place them on the teams I think they are going to end up on? Confused about this. Also, could it not be that those 17 guys are on the aforementioned created teams that aren't in my roster yet?

                3. I discovered another way to get teams to fill all their rosters removing a huge amount of work and at least minimising it. If you start an exhibition game between two teams the game will automatically adjust the teams for you. When you leave the exhibition game the rosters stick. You can then take that into the editor to quickly repair the lines. Much less work, I would think. With your trade method does it work in the editor? Because then THAT would be faster.

The teams and players have to be created in the game. If the created teams fill up with free agents just empty them in the editor.

Create 17 playmakers in-game. Don't waste time editing names/attributes. Then find them in the editor and right-click, Delete each one. (They have to be inactive for the spreadsheet import function to use them.)

When you run the spreadsheet import again, it will automatically skip players that already exist and only add the missing ones.

And remember what I posted earlier when creating players to avoid any bugs:

NEW VERSION OF THE EDITOR (MARCH 23, 2018)

                    New feature:
                    - Added an experimental action for automatically dressing 12 forwards, 6 d-men and 2 goalies for a team, or for all teams in the league. This action also adjusts line combinations automatically, unless it doesn't find enough skaters on the team to dress. This new action is located under Batch, Roster Actions, Dress Players.

                    Bug fix:
                    - Fixed a bug where exported spreadsheets did not include free agents.

See main post for download link.

You don't need to convert the PS3 file to use it on the 360. Austrianredwing and TSOLEliot have shown that the 360 can load the PS3's files. The only problem is that player helmets and gloves will be the wrong colors. However, Tinpanalley is working on a 360 version of my rosters that won't have the color problems.

Hey guys, I should be clear here. What I'm trying to work on for 360 is my own rosters that vary from snowdrift's. I have different created teams and I've done some edits to some players. So, I HAVE been following along the developments of getting the 360 saves to work but applying that to my own roster set BASED on snowdrift's set from mid February or so.
Also, I'm exploring the 360 so I can play with my own soundtrack but I'm having massive problems getting music on the 360 so I'm working on that first. If I can't get music on my 360 I'm not going to bother playing the 360 version. In addition to that, I can't seem to unlock the Classic Teams on 360 which will also impede me from playing on 360. So, IF I can get the music to work and IF I can then get the unlock to work for classic teams, THEN I will move on to trying to get the rosters to work. Otherwise it's a lot of effort lost if I don't end up playing on 360.
So, I'll try to get to it but just wanted to mention those complications and that I modified the roster a bit.

If you've ever used FlyingFinn's ESPN NHL 2K5 editor, you know how you can fill in all of the names on the Historic Teams?

Would implementing something like that work for your NHL 2K8 editor?

Actually, I can answer this one, it's extremely complicated offering this kind of feature and he's mentioned before not being interested in offering it. Honestly, with how much his editor DOES offer, it's not a huge loss. Especially when there are roster files with the classic teams unlocked in the Vault thread.
