Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread
I made a fresh roster file and I've been porting Snowdrift's final 2K8 roster over. It's been a time consuming process but Anaheim and Winnipeg are completely done. A bit over half of Boston are done.
I've found that gameplay is more rounded and balanced with Snowdrift's attributes/data, teams have actual meaningful ranking differences on the loading screen for example.
I also had an idea, I wonder what would happen if I took a default franchise file and copied the updated skaters over. I wonder if that would alleviate the crashing issues that have been plaguing this project.
Either way, I've thought about it a lot and even if these rosters crash Season mode, I still want to work on rosters for Exhibition matches and Playoff mode. I love this game too much and have put too much time just to give up.Last edited by WWEDX2007; 03-31-2019, 06:56 AM.Fandom:

Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread
Okay so, copying the players did not alleviate the crashing but I did finish the remade Boston team this morning.
Here's an insight into what's happening:
Using the current remade rosters (Copied likenesses + Snowdrift attributes) with ANA/ATL (WPG)/BOS makes the game simulate, but then it says whatever team you selected has incomplete lines. selecting "CPU Autofill" crashes the game immediately. I haven't tested fixing the lines by hand or using the editor's "repair" function. So maybe I need to look into this further.
When I copied players over to a fresh franchise file, I never reached the CPU Autofill screen because the game crashed immediately.....it definitely doesn't like copied players.
It's so weird, I've never once seen a Franchise/Season crash in 2K3, 2K6, 2K8 or 2K10. but it seems like all 2K5 does is crash.Fandom:

Infuriating, but it sounds like you're learning a fair bit and getting ahead in small bits. Hope you work it all out!Comment

Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread
After testing, I have found the source of the crashing.
Copying player faces is what crashes ESPN NHL 2K5 (the thing I put so much time into over the past few months). So if I were to copy attributes and data (but not likenesses) to a roster file and put it into franchise we would be golden.
"Clear Player Reference" thankfully does not cause any crashing, so I can still remove menufaces with no errors. changing team logos/names does not crash Season/Franchise either. so the changes I made will be returning from the initial version of the rosters from last year.Fandom:

I still have a lot of work to do, but now that I've figured out the crashing I will resume active development of rosters. I plan to put out 2 files: One is the roster with accurate likenesses for use in non-Franchise/Season Modes. and the other one will have no likenesses but won't crash Franchise/Season.
These will both be updated concurrently.
This is huge for the future of the 2k5 modding community. Thank you!!Comment

I'm basically porting Snowdrift's last roster directly and then I'm gonna work the trade deadline moves afterwards. I fear I might not be done until the beginning of next season. if Snowdrift puts out a file for next year I'll at least have the ground work set to update to reflect his next work.
I love ESPN NHL 2K5 and I have put an absurd amount of time in it over the last year. I just wish things could be done faster and more prompt. I've done so much roster editing I haven't gotten to spend as much time in-game.Fandom:

Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread
Well I've decided to put this on hiatus again.
I've thought about a lot of things and one of them was taking my last released roster and making transactions on it. just to throw the community a bone and apologize for my work not advancing at the rate I'd hoped.
In my frustrations of working on this game I wanted a bit of an escape, I picked up NHL 2K on the Dreamcast and it's crazy to see how far this series went.
During this hiatus, I'm gonna work on NHL 2K8 rosters a bit (I may even make my own)
I've decided to make what I worked on public, it is a direct port of snowdrift's last NHL 2K8 rosters and Anaheim, Atlanta (Winnipeg), Boston, Buffalo, Calgary and Carolina are playable.Attached FilesLast edited by WWEDX2007; 07-10-2019, 03:41 PM.Fandom:

Well, that's a shame but I totally understand. And I appreciate the effort you've already put in despite the frequent problems you've had with it. So, is there any version of your rosters at all that permit playing at least a single season without problems or is that simply something you never figured out?Comment

Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread
Because I can never stay away from this game for long, I've made a blank roster template I've been tweaking at during my spare time. this template works within the confines of the original game (no likeness changes) and safely simulates for multiple seasons at a time in Season/Franchise.
I've made a few decisions in regards to the future of rosters on this game made by me, I'm de-emphasizing the importance of likenesses. I'll only focus on making sure skin color is right for the future.
Also, I will no longer be using anyone's attribute templates or Snowdrift's from his rosters. I'm gonna be rating players from scratch on my own formula which involves watching videos online, looking at stats from the last season and the descriptions of the attributes offered by NHL 2K8. I feel that this will not only speed up the process of working on rosters but will also forge my own path in regards to making rosters.
I can't guarantee a update will come this season but I'm basically informing you guys I'm still tweaking with it in hopes that one day there will be.Fandom:
