2018 WINTER OLYMPICS (FROM THE GROUND UP)

    2018 Olympics Official Logo.jpg

Here is a quick Q&A to answer some questions.

Q: What does from the ground up mean?
A: This will be a complete simulation of the ENTIRE 2018 Olympic games in chronological order using Robert Chiavini's quick play games. That means from the prelims all the way to the podium!

    Q: How will updates occur?
A: As stated above, I will be doing this sim in chronological order starting with the first day of competition February 8th until the Closing Ceremony Sunday, February 25.

Q: I did not know there were Olympic sims out there?
A: I encourage you, if interested to check out Robert Chiavini's website, a quick google search of his name should get you there! The sim engine for each game is fantastic, each athlete rated true to life as the data comes from the athlete's real life results.

    Q: Why the Olympics?
A: The Olympics are the pinnacle of global sport, pride and patriotism and now that I've found a fantastic sim engine, it's go time!

Q: Will you be changing rankings or schedules?
A: No, this will be an as-played replay.

        LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

It's been 4 years since the spectacle that was Sochi and people around the World can not wait to witness the start of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games!

With the Opening Ceremony set to take place in the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium Friday, official contests will kickoff Thursday with mixed doubles curling and Men's ski jumping.

This will be the first time mixed doubles curling has been showcased at the Olympics. It's hard to gauge who will emerge with the Gold Medals however Canada is always a safe bet in curling.

Tomorrow's action pits the USA/OAR (Russia), Canada /Norway, South Korea/Finland and China/Switzerland in the first draw.

Olympics open with doubles curling and ski jumping

                    Thursday, February 8th, 2018 (Day 1)

The Opening Ceremony may be Friday, but that did not stop the 23rd Winter Olympic games from commencing Thursday with mixed doubles curling and men's ski jumping.

Swiss prove themselves and USA beats up Canada

After 2 rounds of Mixed Doubles Curling, the Swiss team of Jenny Perret and Martin Rios sit atop the standings with a 2-0 record.

The biggest surprise from the Gangneung Curling Centre Thursday was team USA defeating Canada 12-5 in Round 2.

No surprises in qualifying round of men's ski jump - normal hill

It was smooth sailing for the top ski jumpers Thursday in the Men's normal hill individual qualifying round.

Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, Evgeni Klimov and Stefan Kraft posted the top scores of the evening.

The field of 57 was cut to 50 and those remaining jumpers will not go onto the medal round (those jumpers who did not advance are highlighted in yellow).

Switzerland, Canada on top after Day 2 of Mixed doubles

February 9, 2020 (Day 2) - The Swiss team of Jenny Perrett and Martin Rios scored big wins Friday over the United States and Norway to put themselves in great shape to move on into the medal round. They currently sit as the only undefeated team in the pool of 8 at 4-0.

Canada trail Switzerland with 3 draws left to play with a record of 3-1. The Canadians took both matches Friday China and Finland.

China, Norway, OAR and the United States all have records of 2-2. With the final draws of the preliminary round looming, remember that the top four nations will qualify for the medal round (tiebreakers to be included if needed).

Finland remain winless, losing 6-5 to the Olympic Athletes from Russia and 7-5 to Canada.

Always wanted to do this but simply never had the time. I was going to use the old Olympic games, NHL hockey for the hockey competition using created rosters for both men and women, curling games for the curling, etc, etc.

My friend and I did a competition in like 2002 using all kinds of games. We used the old EPYX Winter Games for sports like biathlon and figure skating, the Front Page Sports skiing games, etc. I even found a ski jumping games. We drafted countries, kept stats and I even nerded out and made tiny medals. Good times.

Good luck with this. I will have to check out the web site.
