Pretty much this. Industry trends as a whole is mostly stale at least in the AAA gaming space. It's mostly live service games that are mostly retreads of the same safe franchises we've seen for years. Far Cry, call of duty, assassin's Creed, Madden, etc. There's less incentives to innovate as game dev costs good up and investors gotta get bigger returns on their investments.

That said I'm not sure where Madden allocates it's resources cause it seems like it's not enough no matter what mode you play.
