Re: Vision and direction for Madden 24?

They need to make massive improvements to the gamelan.

It's still a very poor simulation of a football game. Same animations we've had for years.

The AI needs to play like a defense, not cheat and know your play ahead of time.

Stats need to be accurate when playing franchises.

Teams need to build rosters for their team, and realize the value of players in their scheme.

We need much more depth from the coaching side.
Position coaches need to matter, and not have everything be just boosts you can buy to make your players ratings higher.

These are issues that Madden has always had.

We got a simple coaching carousel feature in the old NCAA games, but Madden has never had anything like that.

We've been making these threads for more than a decade.

As far as their vision, nothing changes. They have a successful business model from their perspective. What incentive is there to give more and make meaningful improvements that work? None.

Therefore their vision does not change. I don't like it as a franchise player. But I am done buying Madden. If I want my football fix, I will play what I own already.

Wishlists are great but expecting more than what we will be delivered, sets us up for disappointment.

Pretty much this. Industry trends as a whole is mostly stale at least in the AAA gaming space. It's mostly live service games that are mostly retreads of the same safe franchises we've seen for years. Far Cry, call of duty, assassin's Creed, Madden, etc. There's less incentives to innovate as game dev costs good up and investors gotta get bigger returns on their investments.

That said I'm not sure where Madden allocates it's resources cause it seems like it's not enough no matter what mode you play.

2ks arcade game is supposed to drop next year. I expect Madden 24 to flush out the yard and add some more mini games to minimize the incentive to buy that over Madden.

This is the most realistic outcome of any that I've read or thought up myself.

Nice points made earlier in here too about the state of AAA games. MWII was billed as COD 2.0 with 3,000 devs working night and day on the game... and they're drip feeding content, removing beloved features, delaying major content additions, etc... Sound familiar? Unfortunately true quality and investment is lacking all over the industry right now. They charge more. They make more. And deliver less. It sucks but they're getting away with it all over and I don't see it changing.

Vision?????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I guess you forgot about those 3yr plans they keep promising during the ps3-ps4 era
To the point they don't even say that anymore EA was selling fans a dream
And last year they got the nerve to say they be reading the forums to get feedback like they wasn't doing that with a community manager 🤦

I wouldn't be surprised next year they gonna say they studied YouTuber videos showing glitches and unrealistic AI behavior 😂

They're the Janky promoters at this point lol

There are a few schematic improvements on the way. If you paid attention there was a patch a few months ago where they accidently included several test plays called "STUNT_TEST_ET" and "STUNT_TEST_TE" where they had two stunts added to cover 2 man in nickel over. They worked in the sense that the players would do stunts provided there was no tight end attached to the line (then they just rushed straight upfield like normal), but it didn't really ever confuse the offensive line or create issues for the blocking unless an offensive lineman got bumped by somebody.

Things that I would like to see but have no clue if they would add them would be the mable/skate check for 3 match against trips put in the game and some competent RPO defense. We had RPOs added several Maddens ago, but never got the tools on defense to help counter them. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart have a check called "Mix" for their Cover 7 (Cover 4 Quarters and Palms in Madden). Any time the QB puts the ball in the backs belly for the "mesh" the apex gets involved in the run game and the safety has to come down and help more in the pass game. In Madden what happens is on read RPOs the end will crash on the back, the apex will crash to take the QB, and the safety sits back at 10 yards enjoying the show as the QB throws the bubble. We need more tools in our chest on defense to handle RPOs, and we need more tools to handle trips and compressed formations.

Playbook wise I know they intend to expand the custom playbook system at some point. The reason it's as limited as it is now is because of PS4 and Xbox 1 memory constraints, but now they have more to work with. It may not be this next Madden, but I expect by the time the CFB game comes out the playbook system will be overhauled. They completely butchered things in Madden 22 with how much they took out, and hopefully they at least add some of it back in for 24. There are too many coverages that exist in only 1-3 formations in the game total. On offense they took out plays that worked, and took out constraint/counter plays to the base plays in some formations, and in other formations they took out the base plays but left the constraint/counter plays. That stuff needs to be brought back.

I would also like them to bring back formation shifts back, trick plays, and formation subs for kickoffs, kick returns for custom playbooks.

Definitely looking forward to this as well. I was extremely disappointed when the word came out that it would be pushed back from this year.
