    2023 NBA Trade Deadline

Seems like this will probably need its own thread given the activity expected and what we’re kicking off with right now. Just gonna drop this here to get started

Luka and Kyrie in the same backcourt? I’m not sure how well that will work.

Man, the Mavs are taking a big risk here IMO, but it makes sense in that the West is as weak as it's ever been and they might feel that they can get to the Finals this year.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Mavs really might drop to the league's worst defense.

I'm not sure this puts Dallas close enough to match or surpass Denver/Memphis, plus they lose their best small ball 4. Huge risk that might blow up in their face.

Losing DFS does suck but let’s not get it twisted Kyrie is a bonafide 1st option on the court. Luka wanted help and the Mavs got him the best player (by far) available. Also did it fairly cheap. They do still need to make another move though. They also still have the assets to make that move by Thursday. I expect they will make another move.

I want KD on the Suns just so we have Mavs vs Suns in the playoffs.

I said it in the other thread. Bridges, Crowder, Craig works for KD salary wise. Add in however many 1sts the Nets want and the deal works out.

Don't like this trade for either team, but it also shows the change in Kyrie's trade value since his Celtics trade.

On the surface they may look similar, but this trade shows a vastly lower value for Kyrie.

But especially don't like this for Dallas. Not only is this not enough to move them up one tier in the west, it also throws a potential ticking time bomb into their lockeroom.

Edit: I'll revise my statement about not liking this for either team. I like the idea of going all in on "build around KD." Guess its more accurate to say I'm in a lets see how it plays out for BKN stance.

That leaves Bullock and Green as their plus perimeter defenders.
They probably should consider trading Wood and THJ for some more 3 & D wings

They need a legitimate starting four, but what possible combination could get them one?

If they add Kyrie + a starting caliber 4 - either small ball or more traditional, small ball preferred I would think - I like this trade a lot more.

What could a "subsequent trade" wind up being?

Do they revisit a KD deal that Raptors were heavy faves to get him in the summer (but wouldn't budge on Barnes being given up)?

Raptors seem more open to dealing a guy like OG now than they were in the offseason. I'd imagine any KD deal not involving Barnes would start with OG and Trent among other pieces.

Only guy from Nets I'd want besides KD would be Claxton.

That was my initial reaction as well

But then quickly remembered that we have evidence of Wade and Kyrie playing with Lebron and it was just fine

Im using Lebron because he and Luka have that familiar, I create for myself and everyone else play style

So I think it will work provided they get some solid defenders around them

I would hope any subsequent Nets trade is done for the purpose of building around KD and not burning it all down, of course that depends on how KD feels. He could be relieved Kyrie is gone because it allows the team to focus on basketball. I think they have a good nucleus -- one of the top players in the league along with what appears to be a great coach who has a good relationship with the players.

Bron also surrendered usage and touches to them both. Kyrie led the Cavs in shots and usage. Luka hasn’t shown he can/will do that.
