#SWARM: A Westlake State Dynasty - Part II

    Opening Statement

I started a new Westlake State dynasty. While I was trying to figure out the editor (which I won't be using, as even the modded version won't work with my teambuilder), I accidentally formatted a USB drive that had my old profile on it. All my saves, gone. So I remade Westlake State, changed up the team a bit, and I wanna give the reporting thing another shot. I have a much clearer idea of how I'm going to format the report now, y'all should enjoy. Different style from others on here. I don't know how fast this will move. Like those who followed my original know, I hoop a ton. I believe I will play college ball, and then at the very least pro ball overseas. I know I'll get at least 1 year in the league tho.

So I simmed to 2016, just to get my team to a respectable level. Don't wanna have a bunch of 2-3 win seasons.

Put us in the American to start with, once we start killing that, we'll go Big 10.

    Dynasty Rules

Heisman difficulty, Jkits sliders (slightly modified)

    Redshirts

-No redshirting 5 stars (except QB), and they have to start unless the starter is significantly better
    -No redshirting JUCO
-No redshirting anyone who makes the 2-deep depth chart
-I will try to get 4 stars on the field as freshmen, if not they can be redshirted

    Transfers/Players leaving

-Can only persuade a player to stay if they'll start
-Any player over 90 overall declaring for draft cannot be persuaded to stay
-Underclassmen projected lower than the 2nd round may be persuaded to stay

    Recruiting

-If I have a player who's over an 85 as a sophomore, I can't recruit anyone higher than a 3* at the position until that player is set to graduate (positions with multiple starters, i.e WR, CB, DT, are exempt, say I have a soph 85 DT and a JR 87 DT, I can sign 1 4-5 star guy)
-I keep it realistic. (aside from the seasons I simmed, I did recruit some of the unrecruited studs, just to make us relevant fast) Stay in my pipelines for the most part, not gonna recruit whoever until we're a high prestige school.
    -I create recruits and storylines.

    Injuries/suspensions

I use a dice roll system to determine these, or sometimes just make it up as a storyline.

    Scheduling

Once in a Power 5 conference, I will have as close to an A+ schedule as possible, with maybe 1 non conference cupcake a year. Any non conference opponent gets home and home series.

    Gameplay Rules

I hate house rules for gameplay, can never follow them. Luckily turning off fatigue has eliminated the need.

I only have one, and that's that the pre snap adjustments I can make depend on my QB's awareness. There's an advantage to starting an upperclassman now.

Sorry to hear about the file getting corrupted, but good to see you are still going for it. I followed Westlake through the super lean years, so it’ll be interesting to see where this team picks up now. #SWARM

You know I'm here, good luck with Part II Young! Too bad we'll never know how the Joey Williams era ends though..

The American can be a fun conference for awhile, so good luck starting off there as well. Looking forward to seeing how your new squad matches up with other teams.

We're not going 2-10 again, that's for sure. I'm putting up the roster and the schedule soon, then I'll get into the season. We have a lot of potential, but the first year is gonna have a lot of ups and downs. I recruited a 6'6, 230 pound athlete who's gonna play WR, he may be the best player I've ever recruited. He was a 3 star gem.

I actually did play out Williams' career. I was going to catch up on the season before I lost the file. We went 13-1 in his junior year, lost to Florida 46-39 in the Natty. Almost came back from down 21. He went for like 250 passing, 170 rushing, 3 rushing scores, 2 passing scores, but threw 3 picks. Ended the year with about 4000 passing, 1700 rushing, like 58 total scores. He declared for the draft and went in the 6th.

It sucked to see him go so late, but it was kinda realistic. Didn't have that great of an arm, threw a ton of picks, had fumble problems. Great college QB, but I feel he didn't have the arm for the pros.

Sucks that I lost the file, cause it would have been real interesting to see who took over at QB. I had a redshirt JR who was like a 90, and I recruited a fast lefty with a rocket arm, would have been cool to see who won the job, and how we'd do after Williams. I was about 2 good seasons removed from moving us to the Big Ten.

As always, I appreciate both of you following along. I'm pretty busy, I have 2 basketball tournaments this coming week, so y'all probably won't see the first update for a bit, just roster, schedule, and a little season preview.

I'm back doing this. I was so locked in on basketball for a bit I completely forgot about this. Checked in on some dynasties recently and I got the urge to play again. Simmed to 2017, as I was 5 games into 2016 when I picked the game back up and I wanted to start a fresh season. Updates soon (for real this time, like next couple days I should have started the season)...

                    2017 Training Camp Preview

                    July 14th, 2017

New faces, position battles, and more

Westlake, OH -- Training camp is officially in session, and that means football is almost back! Players suited up for the first full contact practice of the year, and questions about the team are already being raised.

                    QB Battle

The Swarm went 5-7 in 2016, and a lot of the blame can go to QB Ronald Hollis. The junior completed just 47% of his passes for 1682 yards in his 11 starts, throwing 15 scores and 12 picks. He did run the ball well, with upwards of 700 yards and 7 scores, but 1600 yards from a starter isn't cutting it. As a result, head coach Zack Favors has made it clear that the starting job is wide open.

But I can't guarantee him the job after how he played last year. Whoever plays better in training camp will start, simple as that. And whoever wins that job, the other guy will be on their a-- all year.

                    Robert Hollis

Sophomore lefty Desi Mayes is the other man being considered for the job. He's very raw, and completed just 19 of 46 passes, throwing a score and 4 picks as a true freshman. But that was only his third year playing QB, having played running back and corner until his junior year of high school. He's a really good athlete, reportedly running a 4.51 40 at 6'0, 210. He has a cannon for an arm, but isn't the most accurate passer. He looks a lot better than he did as a freshman, looking more confident by the day.

                    Desi Mayes

Hollis is one of the smallest QB's out there, at just 6'0, 196, he's not built as solidly as Mayes. He also isn't the same caliber of athlete. He lacks that same quick twitch explosiveness. He does appear to be more accurate, though lacks a bit of arm strength. He knows the offense a lot better than Mayes.

Marques "21 Savage" Cannon promises "no knucklehead s--t"

Strong safety Marques Cannon, the top safety in the class of 2015 and an Oregon commit before his arrest, promises to stay on the field this season. Cannon has been dubbed "21 Savage" by fans, a play on his number 21 jersey, his hard hitting play style, and the name of a popular Atlanta rapper.

Cannon was arrested back in March 2015 for allegedly breaking into the home of a high school rival, but charges against him were dropped. He still lost all but 4 of his D1 offers, and ended up being the first 5 star recruit in Westlake State's football history.

Last year, he looked to have everything together, racking up 35 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 picks and a forced fumble, before being suspended for poor academic performance after 7 games. He then got arrested in the offseason at a bar, though he claims he was a victim of circumstance.

Cannon has pledged to stay on the field and out of trouble this year, and says he will maintain his academic eligibility.

True freshmen to look out for

OLB Ryan Fells Fells was the #8 OLB in the class of 2017. At 6'0, 238, he runs a 4.5 40 and can hit. Fairly good pass rusher, but mediocre in coverage. He will likely start at ROLB

P Ernie Butler Yes, a punter is a player to watch for. Butler played wideout in high school, but will elect to play punter in college. He's an OK punter, but he's fast. Expect some fake punts.

We'll see you after training camp with a roster analysis, schedule breakdown, conference outlook, and players to watch for this season.

                      P: #5, Ernie Butler (FR)

KR/PR: #25 Evan Scott (FR), #30, Kyle Phillips (SR)

                      Positional Breakdowns

Quarterbacks: Robert Hollis won the starting job largely based off his superior knowledge of the system. He looked more in sync then Desi Mayes, and made some on the fly adjustments that Mayes just didn't. However, if Hollis is struggling, expect to see Mayes. Hollis' leash is pretty short after his awful 2016 season.

Grade: B-. Lot of potential here.

Halfbacks: Kyle Phillips and Evan Scott are battling for a spot. Phillips is faster, a bit more slippery in the open field, and bigger, but Scott is more agile and a better reciever. He's also 2 years younger. Tony Davis is your starter for the time being, and he's pretty much guaranteed to either be #1 or #2 because he's by far the best blocker, and the most powerful back, at 5'11, 248. He also performed the best of any back last year, as the #2 to now-departed Jamarcus Brink, rushing for 480 yards, 5 scores, and putting up 5 YPC.

Grade: A-. These guys should all be able to contribute. Run game should be good.

Fullbacks: Not much to say. Markus Carey is dependable.

                      Grade: B.

Wide Receivers: Watch out for Brandon Butler. At 6'6, 230, Butler has speed, a crazy vertical jump, and pretty good hands. He played just 3 games last year, but caught 18 balls for 313 yards and 5 scores in those games. He did have 3 drops. Sophomore Marquis Sims could take over the #2 spot from junior Mike Cowan .

Grade: B-. Past Butler, there's nobody who looks like they'll be anything more than a 500-600 yard guy. But Butler could be special if he bounces back from the dislocated ankle that cost him 9 games last year.

Tight Ends: There's only 1 tight end on the roster who's good enough to play. Jonathon Moss is nothing special. Tony Davis and 350-pound backup tackle Francisco Pedrozo will be the #2 and 3 tight ends, respectively.

                      Grade: D.

Offensive Line: This is a good group. All of these guys are well rounded, and Troy Jones is one of the nation's best centers. Him and G Abdul Minhaj could very well be drafted next April.

Grade: B+. If the line plays well, this team could win 8-9 games.

Defensive Line: Very mediocre group. Combined for 5 sacks, 22 TFL last season. Run stuffing end Derek Page is probably the best lineman, with 13 TFL in 2016.

                      Grade: C.

Linebackers: Strong unit. Senior MLB Kai Trent was an All-American last year, and could sneak into the draft with a strong senior campaign. Joe Moss has been dependable, and true freshman Ryan Fells has upside. Should be able to make up for mediocre DL.

                      Grade: B.

Secondary: Good starting CB tandem with Justin Collier and Jeremy Little. Collier is one of the most technically sound players in the country, but lacks elite athleticism. Little, on the other hand, isn't super polished, but is a burner. Nickel corner Mark Thompson is a beast in press, and has the agility to stay with smaller guys.

The safety duo of James Small and Marques Cannon has potential to be incredible. Small is a 4.3 guy with great instincts, good tackler. He does drop a few too many picks. Cannon is a beast. Hard hitter, great run support guy. If he can stay on the field, we could see a duo similar to Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Grade: B+. The pass defense will be a major key for this team.

                      2017 Schedule

                      Prediction: 9-4, with bowl win

Note: I have the American split North/South. Also for the game at LSU, last time I tried playing LSU, my game locked up, so may not be able to play that one.

Marshall started off strong in this one, going up 21-0, and picking off Robert Hollis twice, before Hollis found the 6'7, 356-pound tackle turned backup tight end Francisco Pedrozo for a score to jumpstart the offense. Westlake ran with the momentum, outscoring the Thundering Herd 14-0 in the 3rd quarter, with Hollis and tailback Evan Scott each running in a score.

Tied 21-21 at the start of the 4th, the Swarm forced a stop, then went down and kicked a field goal to go up for the first time in the game. Marshall answered with a score, an Isaac Green pass to wideout Jason Moore. Enter Brandon Butler. Held to just 7 yards in the first 3 quarters, Hollis lobbed a ball in his direction, and he caught it over 2 defenders, was hit in the air, and somehow managed to stay on his feet to go score a 61 yard TD.

A few stops were traded before Marshall scored with 56 seconds to go, and it looked to be all but over, with the Swarm needing to go 82 yards in just under a minute. But Butler had other ideas. Marshall made the fatal error of leaving him single covered, and he burned his man, Hollis found him, then he juked out the safety coming over to tackle him and went to the house again. Marshall almost made it to OT, but a 56 yard FG attempt hooked wide as time expired.

                        Butler's first TD grab

                        Notable Statlines:

                        WESTLAKE STATE

                        Week 3 vs Illinois - W 28-27

Another tight one in the home opener, as the Swarm came from behind again to just barely beat Illinois. The Swarm did score first in this one, with Robert Hollis finding tight end Jonathon Moss for a 12 yard score early. Devon Moore led his squad down the field, and senior tailback Ra'Von Bonner punched it in to cap a long drive. Westlake State would punt, and Bonner immediately ran in a 53 yard score to put his team up 14-7. Stops were traded until Westlake scored a TD, with Brandon Butler catching his 3rd of the year.

                        TD grab from Butler

Illinois got a field goal right before the half, and no would score until late in the 3rd quarter, when Moore capped off a methodical drive with a keeper on the goal line. Hollis would hit Butler for another short score on the next Swarm drive, this time from 7 yards out to cut the Illini lead to 24-21.

Illinois managed a field goal on their next drive, and then forced a 3 and out. The game looked over, but with 48 seconds left, Swarm corner Russ Cowan picked off Moore on a rare mistake from the Illinois signal-caller in a 26/30, 289 yard performance. (He did throw one other pick, on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half.)

Robert Hollis had to lead his team 42 yards to the end zone in under a minute with no timeouts. 13 yard completion. First down. 42 seconds. 8 yard completion. 28 seconds. Then, from the 21, Hollis dropped back, rolled right, and found Marquis Sims for the game winning score, on the sophomore's only catch of the day.

                        Notable Statlines:

                        WESTLAKE STATE

                        QB Robert Hollis - 25/42, 269 yards, 4 TD, 3 INT

                        WR Brandon Butler - 7 catches, 69 yards, 2 TD, 4 drops

TE Jonathon Moss - 5 catches, 56 yards, TD, 2 drops

WR Marquis Sims - 1 catch, 21 yards, TD

CB Russ Cowan - 4 TAK, INT

RE Derek Page - 3 TAK, 2 TFL, 2 sacks

                        ILLINOIS

                        QB Devon Moore - 26/30, 289 yards, 2 INT

                        HB Ra'von Bonner - 14 carries, 103 yards, 2 TD

CB Tony Adams - 6 TAK, 3 INT

                        Week 4 vs UNLV - W 42-30

This game was one the Swarm expected to win. The Markell Grayson-led Raiders just aren't a very good team. However, they went up 14-0 pretty fast due to some sloppy defensive play from the Swarm. Noah Bean and Tariq Hollandsworth each caught scores. Tony Davis, who had a career day, got the Swarm going with a 48 yard TD run set up by some great blocking.

The 250-pound Davis left everyone in the dust here.

Westlake State tied it up, courtesy of a short run from Robert Hollis, and after a UNLV FG, Desi Mayes came in for Hollis, who suffered a shoulder injury to his throwing arm on a hard hit. Though he returned to the game, he is questionable for next week's game against UCF. Mayes finished out the drive, and scored a 5 yard rushing TD just before the half, making the score 21-17 in his team's favor.

Westlake State received the ball to start the second half, and it didn't take long for Hollis to find Brandon Butler for a score, on yet another fade route.

A couple stops were traded, then Robert Hollis led another scoring drive, finishing it himself with his second score of the day. 50 seconds later, Swarm corner Jeremy Little gave up his second TD of the day on one of the weirdest plays I've seen in a while: Drew Tejchman, who doesn't come close to matching Little's 4.3 speed, ran a go route. Little chose to run about 5 yards in front of him, then didn't see the ball thrown until it was too late. To add insult to injury, he than squared up Tejchman, who trucked him and took the ball all the way, for an 84 yard score.

Tony Davis would run in another score, and UNLV got one back late, though the 2-pt conversion failed.

                        Notable Statlines:

                        WESTLAKE STATE

                        QB Robert Hollis - 13/22, 173 yards, TD, 13 carries, 46 yards, 2 TD

                        HB Tony Davis - 21 carries, 148 yards, 2 TD, 4 catches, 38 yards

WR Brandon Butler - 5 catches, 108 yards, TD, drop

LOLB Ryan Fells - 8 TAK, 2 TFL

RE Derek Page - 6 TAK, 3 TFL, 3 sacks

                        UNLV

                        QB Markelle Grayson - 32/45, 423 yards, 4 TD, 13 carries, 51 yards

HB Tariq Hollandsworth - 11 carries, 87 yards, 5 catches, 27 yards, TD

WR Noah Bean - 7 catches, 125 yards, TD

WR Josh Neal - 8 catches, 92 yards, TD

WR Drew Tejchman - 5 catches, 119 yards, TD, 3 drops

American Conference play starts next week, with a home game against 2-1 UCF.

3-0, excellent start. It's nice to see that Hollis got those INT's under control in week 3, that could be a huge key to continued success. It also seems Butler is going to be a stud at WR, he has been tearing it up!

I love seeing the close games. Seems your sliders are on point, at least based on your current roster. Those first two games could have easily gone either way, which adds a lot of fun to the game. A challenge is key to preventing the dynasty from getting stale.

First 3 games have been a lot of fun. Sliders definitely tough, but fair. Easily could be, probably should be 1-2. I feel like we'll end up losing a couple games we shouldn't later on. Butler is the sole reason we beat Marshall, without him we'd be lost passing wise.

                            Thanks for checking in man.

SWARM START 3-0, OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY THIS WEEK

                              American Preview -- Who's Hot, Who's Not -- Top 25, Heisman Race

How the AAC is shaping up

Westlake State have opened the year 3-0. and start conference play this week, hosting 2-1 UCF. Despite starting 3-0, the Swarm have looked somewhat shaky, being bailed out by clutch plays in wins against Marshall and Illinois.

The Knights, on the other hand, have beaten Georgia State 36-14, and then #8 Texas 49-14, with their lone loss coming in their opener, a 48-45 shootout with Maryland.

In the North division, Army looks the strongest so far, at 3-0 with their smallest margin of victory being 18 points. The South looks a lot stronger, with #20 Tulsa, UCF, and Houston all looking strong.

Below are the AAC standings, along with a look at the Heisman race and the top 25 ranked teams.

                              Who's Hot, Who's Not

HOT: WR Brandon Butler. The sophomore saved the game against Marshall, and has racked up 408 yards and 5 scores in 3 games so far. The Swarm's next-highest yardage total? Tailback Tony Davis, with 78 yards on 8 grabs.

NOT: HB Kenny Phillips. Phillips strained his shoulder on the first carry he got this season, sidelining him for 3 games, and costing him a shot at being the #2 back.

HOT: SS Marques Cannon. "21 Savage" has already racked up 23 tackles, 3 of them for loss, and 2 sacks this year.

NOT: The rest of the secondary. CB Justin Collier has done well aside from getting burned once, but that's to be expected with his average speed. But CB Jeremy Little and FS James Small aren't pulling their weight at all. For 2 guys that run in the 4.3s, they've been torched a lot. Little has yet to record a stat, and he's played 3 games. He could get dropped in favor of senior Mark Thompson.

HOT: The entire pass rush. The Swarm rank 3rd in the nation in sacks, with 17 already. DE Derek Page has doubled his career sack total this year, with 6 sacks in 3 games.
