Favorite Wrestling game of all time?

I know that the overwhelming majority of this thread will reply WWF No Mercy, but hopefully we can get some other games thrown out there as well. I'm really looking to start playing some games while I'm on the road. I've been on a HUGE early 90's WCW kick lately, but can't really find anything that's been able to satisfy the game craving.

I'd love to be able to play a game that I can relive some of the greatest matches of late NWA/early WCW. Sting vs Muta/Vader/etc.

With that said, comment and see where your favorite ranks amongst other OS'ers.

    Smackdown 2: Know Your Role

I primarily played wrestling games in a multiplayer setting, and KYR had the best setup for this, IMO. Game played tight (if simple in retrospect), had a robust create-a-wrestler feature, a functional and persistent multiplayer season mode, and a great roster.

Runner-up would be either Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain and Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth; I liked the storyline in SYM's singleplayer campaign, but IIRC HCTP had a better roster.

I personally did not enjoy No Mercy and the other the AKI wrestling games whatsoever, I didn't have a favorable opinion of the graphics or controls (though admittedly I maintain that the Nintendo 64 controller is arguably the worst I've ever tried to use; that could be a factor)

I actually prefered Wrestlemaina 2000 over No Mercy. I had one of the copies of No Mercy with the erase all data bug which factors into my decision.

Aside from the 3 AKI WCW games, I'm not sure if a good or even decent WCW game exists.

The early Smackdown games were fun but I always hated how quick the recovery times were after big moves or falling of the HIAC.

In my opinion, nothing tops No Mercy. I'd put WCW/NWO Revenge behind it, followed by Wrestlemania.

However, I always did love WWF Raw for the Sega Genesis.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, not only did it have wrestlers from New Japan and All Japan but it also had MMA fighters (i.e PRIDE, BattleArts, etc.) You can even fight MMA rules in the game. It also a cool combo system that lets you mix kicks and punches.
              Mets/Giants/Knicks/Rangers/Manchester United/Notre Dame Football

I definitely have to say No Mercy. Here we are all these years later, and I still play it on an emulator with a classic 80's and 90's mod which has made the game even more enjoyable for me than the "original". Though WcW Vs. NWO world tour and Wrestlemania 2000 were also great. To be honest I think the thing about No Mercy, which they also seem to have done right in WWE All Stars, is a better, more exciting reversal system.

The reversal system in No Mercy allows for momentum to swing at crucial moments in the match, thus creates longer matches and the potential for huge comeback victories, which accurately represents the drama of a WWE match. Warrior gets beat on for 6 minutes, reverses a suplex, hits a clothesline, gets all pumped up, hits the press slam and the big splash, 1...2....3. The games they have out now aren't difficult at all, no matter what the difficulty level or sliders, which makes it unappealing for me. What's the point of playing if there's no way you're going to lose? No Mercy is absolutely my vote, if for nothing else, the challenge and realistic pace of each and every match.

                    Fire Pro R easy.

Also it has Sting,Muta and Vader by default.

                    Actually,since you asked for WCW...

                    Here's one for Vader:

                    Sting vs. Flair:

                    Classic moment re-created:

Bret Hart vs. Muta (couldn't find a Sting vs. Muta vid and Muta vs. Taker is in 2 videos)

                    <object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2FWspKbtHX8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2FWspKbtHX8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object>

Just for the heck of it years of Summerslam main events:

What about the Day of Reckoning/Wrestelmania X8/X9 games? How are they? Or any Gamecube exclusive games for that matter? Are any of them worth playing? I've never played any Gamecube games, so they're an option.

Re: Favorite Wrestling game of all time?

With football season over, and baseball still weeks away, I've been on a big wrestling game kick the past few weeks. I still have at least a dozen different games spanning a half dozen systems. Over the past month I've tried most of them, looking for one to keep me busy for a while.

What I've found is that there are a few really good ones, but most wrestling games have at least one flaw that makes you want to or :

The best for me varies, but still seems to revolve around Fire Pro Returns and No Mercy.

Not trying to be negative, but here are some of the things that I would call significant flaws with the games I've tried lately.

                              SvR 2011:
Too easy. The CPU is lazy (and at times really stupid). I also don't like the path of hitting a sig in order to get to a finisher. It makes the matches too predictable and takes out the possibility of a surprise OMG! moment.

                              Here Comes The Pain:
This was my #3 wrestler for a long time (and might still be). It hasn't aged that well for me, as the speed is really fast, and I wish it stamina. The grapple animations have make it easy to reverse too. Still a really good game though.

                              SvR 2006:
Nice graphics and additions to the series with things like stamina. Sadly, the brain that was resent for the CPU in HCTP was starting to fade here. Seeing the CPU constantly climb ladders all match and never do top rope finishers is very frustrating. They also love to leave the ring to no reason and take theri sweet time coming back.

                              Day of Reckoning 1 & 2:
Both really good games, with one thing that drives me nuts. The collision detection is a little too god, and a suplex can take out 3 guys at once. I like being able to break u moves, but this goes too far and takes the fun (and strategy) out of 3 and 4 way matches. I also can never get faces to look right for CAWs.

                              WWE Raw 2:
So much potential, and so many senseless bugs. The never ending pins, the race to the top of the cage, tag partners attacking you instead of the opponent, etc.. This one hasn't aged too well either. The control feels sluggish and awkward.

                              Legends of Wrestling: Showdown:
So close to being a classic. They had the roster, look, depth, and presentation. All they had to do was fix the obvious bugs and some AI issues. I love the look and feel of this game. Sadly, the AI is very limited (never whipping you to the ropes, going to the top rope after you are already back on your feet). They could have also used some sort of momentum swing so that it's not just a race to drain the opponents health bar.

So many wrestling games have been plagued by hair-pulling glitches. It's maddening. A few tweaks here and there and we'd have a ton of classics. Instead we have a bunch of what-ifs.

After my to 2 I'd say that any of the ones above (save RAW2) can be fun for a while. You just have to decide what you can live with and what will drive you crazy.
