This is what Triple H has been planning on doing with NXT. I believe he's stated in the past year or so that he does not want superstars to have scripted promos anymore, that they should be able to just do it.

I think it's just indicative of how the product is over managed and bottled up compared to the way it used to be. I'll even go back to another era when the WWE was more family friendly. It occurs to me when listening to promos and watching the in ring product back in the '80s the wrestlers weren't scripted the way they are now.

I mean, can you imagine some backstage stooge trying to tell Roddy Piper what to say and do?!

I disagree. When I heard him on Tampa radio once still in character for the most part it was one of the best things I heard from him. Plus in this day and age he has to get his name out there.

Edit: I love that he mentions Sting as a name he'd love to face, please make that happen
